Christmas Coach (2019)
Deserves 0 stars
I've never seen this actress in anything before, so I'm not sure if her grating, over the top attitude is her acting or if it was under the directors orders. But this movie was HORRIBLE. I love Hallmark movies but this performance was purely obnoxious.
The Evening Star (1996)
Beautiful Sequel
While Shirley McLaine remains ever the strong willed Aurora, what makes this film wonderful is the fact that she continues her relationship with her grand children much as she did with her daughter, and somewhere along the way in both movies the children come to realize that while she may make you want to bang you head against a wall, there isn't anyone that loves and supports you more! I have an even greater respect for my mother and the education she gave me.
Yet Aurora still manages to make the same mistakes we all make. Love is not an easy road traveled.
This movie brings humor to that road, tears just like the original movie. I will agree the airplane scene was over the top, but I loved the scene with Jack Nicholson on the beach with the car going through the surf.
I have never read the books, but now I really want to.
One interesting fact - almost every star in this movie is a daughter or son of someone in Hollywood - Teddy was Patty Duke and John Astin's son. Tommy's wife is Cary Grant and Diane Cannon's daughter, Teddy's wife is someone from Jefferson Airplane's daughter. Even Lewis has an acting father - although she has made her own name in the business.
Black Cloud (2004)
For the budget and time spent filming - this is a great movie
I would have liked to see what they could have done with more money and budget! Rick Shroder did a great job, and all the actors are to be applauded as well.
I was afraid this movie might be too "dark" or "violent". Instead, I found it thought provoking.
What I found most thought provoking was that Black Cloud finds out in the movie he has white blood in him. He feels this is a demon part of him, it is seen as impure. A good part of the movie is spent with him fighting his own internal demons. We all have demons - Shroder's ability to capture this for us, show us the struggle, and then the eventual acceptance and the strength that ones gains when you come to accept yourself is thought provoking in itself. To be able to do so in a story that is about love, friendship, and becoming a man - makes this story entertaining for all.
Please take your kids to see this movie. It is a great movie for teenagers and all audiences.
