Cuck (2019)
10/10
Wanted to Hate it....Didn't
6 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The tension & psychological build-up ( or, rather, tearing-down) of the main character was perfect. Showed just the right amount of realism in regard to, for example, the convenience store dude giving him a job, but the white folks 'helping him' being the real poison to his 'American Dream'.

What I really wanted to have an issue with was the whole 'cuck' thing...people throw the word around like its an insult used to describe a weak male... when in reality, the 'cuck' relationship of the woman & the tattooed dude was the true definition of cucking in the first place. The fact that they used society's perception of 'the weak cuck' to do exploitation films, etc was a real fun psychological kicker too... the main character was always playing the 'weak cuck' role.....and in fact, the 'real cuck', the tattooed man, was never in a position of weakness at all. Real nice touch.

I also enjoyed that it showed the marketing & sales side of these online figureheads, with the mustache-guy character... how easily he flipped a narrative at the end, how follows & likes can spawn new networking opportunities to exploit...super realistic.

Overall, it was a hauntingly realistic, sad & disturbing narrative of a lot of folks today.

What a Trip
1 October 2019
First, I ignored & skipped over it a lot because I thought it'd be a generic Hollywood thing.

Then, tonight, I saw it again.....finally decided to read the synopsis...

'Three short films, each depicting the same actors in different and sometimes overlapping roles.'

It seemed odd. Then I remembered how much I loved 'The Voices'. Now, THAT was a film that changed my opinion on Mr. Reynolds' acting... in THAT film, I realized he wasn't just a Hollywood Moneyface....and based on that fact alone, threw on The Nines.

And holy oreos, was I pleasantly surprised....

Way to give me a total existential crisis.....this is the ONLY TIME in my 32 years of being alive on earth that I can honestly say......something that wasn't a drug...a whole-entire-FILM......made me trip the HECKIN OUT at one point....and I dunno if that's what a 'drug flashback' is, or if this film just exploded my brain for a second and a half, but the part with the 'Intervention' felt really, REALLY heavy and made me cry.

But ohhhhhh me, what a trip of a movie. Real nice........really on the level of 'Spotless Mind', 'Holy Mountain', 'Waking Life'.....etc.....but....super relevant to modern lines of thought.........real nice. I enjoyed it, but.....it was about an inch too Close to Home....ya know?

Unbelievable (2019)

Wow, the writing.
14 September 2019
Not often I'm impressed by writing, directing & acting, but holy hell......how explosive is the dialogue & acting? Every woman in this is sharp, strong, and just oozes feminine power without coming off as cheesy or put-on or try-hard. Just a gang of tough chicks obsessed with their jobs. I also mega loved the realistic parenting/homelife stuff with the chick as the head of a household instead of a dude.....these dudes are supportive, loving & understanding but without being emasculated or 'paraded' like some parody character, as most shows do with the stay at home/supporting dad/husband role.

Super impressed with the writing & dialogue.

Really Really, Ridiculously Good Movie Sequel Film To The First Movie That Was Made
18 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I am going to just say, Derek Zoolander & Hansel's first movie was dynamite stuff, really classic and really quite funny. It was always a cool time to pop in my VHS tape with some popcorn and stuff. So when I saw that they had made the second sequel movie film to the first movie that was made, you can bet I was super excited and pumped for it.

Well, rightly so, what a film movie! It was perfect. It wasn't recycled at all, it was still just Derek and Hansel being really cool guys and stuff. I was sorry to hear about Derek and his stuff that he had going on, I didn't know it was such a rough time off the runway and stuff, you know, but thats real life, it can sometimes be not the place you ever want to end up ever. It can make you die. So anyway, the scripting was fantastic, and the plot was just great. The cameos were all just fabulously wonderful and absolutely sexy. rawr, folks.

All in all, I adored it. And I'm fantastically happy no one else does, because I can have it all to myself, just like the first one. Hah. Suck on that, critics. You just don't get the grown up's humor. Humph. I need a roasted butterscotch latte.

Ciao

not for the sane
8 February 2016
It was absolutely perfect in every way. The lead's acting was off the chart...I was really impressed and giggling along sometimes at the character's antics and the way she just ripped right into her role, it must have been just fabulous on set... It was the very first time I'm not very impressed by Mr. Glover simply because I felt like he was doing a woody harrelson thing or something, but I love him anyway and the role could have been more well defined or rounded as a character, but overall, it fit. I loved Miss Paz, she added an extra kick, and I just loved the writing & the set design. The lighting was also absolutely perfect. Perfect movie.

A movie both unsettling and sweet in nature.
17 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
A movie both unsettling and sweet in nature.

I remember as a child wanting with all the fibres of my being to have something like this happen to me. The adult portrayal in the film was great, he never crossed any physical boundaries but of course, the unsettling part being he may have skipped into some strange and not so authoritative-figure-like behavior emotionally and mentally.

I saw it as a man desperate to make a difference in someones life that was a positive effect rather than negative, and knowing what girls grow up to encounter, wanted to give her some space and perspective and something else to hope for in life.

Of course, being 11, she falls in love, and fortunately that's where dude stops things, leaving her depressed and brokenhearted, but its for her own good of course.

I have mixed feelings about this movie. parts of me are guarded and want to protect the child, but the child part of me sees it as a romantic love tragedy.
