First Born (2007)
Shue really has a torn soul.
Elisabeth Shue plays a dancer whose career is suddenly put hold when she becomes pregnant and upon delivery of the baby via cesarean section, things take a turn to a somewhat dark and often disorienting turn.
Shue's performance in First Born is fabulous and the ending was a twist that was somewhat expected, but still a bit of a shock. The camera is following Laura throughout the movie. we see only her perspective of how things play out which by the end, leaves you with many unanswered questions.
Overall, a very good film.
Grim Reaper (2007)
Should have been a Sci-Fi original picture.
Grim Reaper's premise is simple: Think Final Destination meets any cheesy slasher flick from the last 20 years.
I really hate saying bad things about anything independent, but this movie is just awful. If anyone is familiar with the old television series Forever Knight, you'll have a nostalgic feeling when you start watching this movie. The camera work is very similar to it. Unfortunately, that's where the similarities end.
Grim Reaper was certainly not a good movie. Character development is simply not present and the acting is borderline comedic. It has the feel of a Sci-Fi channel original film on a budget of $30 and free pizza filmed in an abandoned warehouse.
The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005)
Caw! Caw! Flop! Flop!
I have to admit that with a cast like Dennis Hopper, Eddie Furlong and David Boreanaz, I expected this to be a decent movie. For me at least, it wasn't. It's a retelling of the original movie with an added twist, David Boreanaz is trying to become the anti-Christ and to do so, requires the help of the pimp, Dennis Hopper.
To me, the movie lacked emotion (and in some scenes, acting ability). It seems rushed. Instead of trying to focus on building relationships between characters in the movie, they simply say, "Okay. Here is the cast, here is a one minute flashback to show how they know each other, and we will throw elements in every now and then to explain the conflict." I'll conclude with this: Dennis Hopper, Eddie Furlong and David Boreanaz have done some good work in their time. This isn't it.
