Waste of viewers' time

This movie is just another set of clichés. Any sci-fi fan will immediately draw parallels with iconic sci-fi pictures, which makes it unbearable to watch, since these parallels are not for the benefit of the picture in question. One can easily guess what the end will be, what the next actions of all the personages will be etc. The acting is another catastrophe of the movie. It's linear, pale and rather amateur. The visual effects may seem decent in the beginning of the movie, but this hopes evaporates at the fifth minute of the time-line. Even antagonists (zombies or whatever you want to call them) lack visual realism and intimidation.

More of a disappointment

This movie is an absolute dichotomy. Excellent cast, excellent acting, decent script, excellent director — and a failure to deliver an excellent film. I am confused to understand what was the final goal of the director: 1)to show the rotten-to-the-core nature of Hollywood-L.A. life; 2) to show the Dante Alighieri's Divina come to life on Earth; 3) mysticism of a human being's soul; 4) generally, the insanity of people hyperbolised by incest relationships? The first one seems like the most obvious goal and the most achieved one. The second one lacks realisation and violence, which one would expect from this director. The third one is simply underrepresented: manifested by hallucinations and inexplainable connections between the members of the Weiss family The fourth is also insufficiently unearthed. M. Wasikowska and E. Bird are performing great, but they are not the only insane characters. Basically, everyone are. But not explicitly though, with John Cusack being a rational maniac, delivering a great role.
