The Good Karma Hospital (2017)
1st ep a Bust - Excellent Show if you persist!
I have to warn you that I found the first episode a bit of a drudgery to watch, but I insisted we couldn't judge a new show by its first episode so we binged watched the entire 3 seasons (series-?). We found it FUN to watch and delighted by the show. A real gem in a sea of repitive shows from Hollywood. Who knew you had to try a different culture (Acorn TV) to find something worth watching during Covid isolation!
El Camino Christmas (2017)
"Son looking for long, lost Dad during Christmas" kind of movie but with social satire & unexpected laughs
I agree with the finer points raised by others but few realize this movie was never meant to be on the level of Shakespeare. The movie satireses incompetent cops & small towns, everywhere. The only Christmas connection is that it happens to take place during Christmas season.
Tim Allen reveals a side of himself we don't ever see in his other movies - A sad, depressed old man disillusioned with life and set on self-distruction by drinking excessively.
No, this aint a HALLMARK movie but more like an antithesis of those. I have been subjected to a stream of those movies lately, so mark my words. This movie is worth watching solely to see Tim Allen play a real person, complete with drinking and swearing. It was fun to see him THAT way. It isn't a serious movie nor is it a laugh out-loud comedy, but it has it's funny moments and the story isn't totally predictable.
It is worth watching but a fair warning - This aint a FAMILY movie, unless you're all over 14 years old and don't get offended with the occasional swear word. There is NO nudity in this movie, either.
Star Trek: Picard: Maps and Legends (2020)
New writers, Same mistakes as ST Discovery
I began watching Picard due to trailers of First episode. And the first episode almost had made me believe the Producers and writers had learned what the producers and writers of Discovery had done wrong...but sadly, this second episode of Picard has me seeing this new Star Trek world in s poor light.
Where as the first episode gave me hope, this second episode has not only taken away my hope but has shown me that the writers are intent on changing our views on Star Trek.
For starters, Star Trek Picard is no longer a family-oriented TV show. This episode contained at least one instance of an f-bomb. That was shocking to say the least when viewed with the family. This show should not be watched by children. And yet the original Star Trek inspired children who watched it to become scientists and doctors as adults.
This show is being produced and written for the new generation of 18 to 30 year olds who curse and display violence at a moment's notice. That isn't what Star Trek was all about. Violence was used as a last resort, and even then only if words failed.
This new show starts off with weak mysteries, romantic memories wrapped in a veil of mystery - the use of beloved characters to warp our sense of familiarity with Star Trek is an abomination. Call me an old timer but I watch Star Trek as a child and became one of those scientists. I thought this new Star Trek was going to be an introduction to my children about their hopes and dreams of a future and possibly inspiration for what they'd like to become as adults.
I can no longer allowed children to watch this show, where it just one f-bomb - that could be excusable but the f-bomb came after a scene of a couple having sex. That is not family TV. If CBS access is using this show to bolster their membership then they are going to have to count out anyone with a family in the home. That leaves only single men as their primary audience, because I doubt single women will watch this show.
Clearly the use of f-bombs and sexual exploitation are proof of that.
I am glad I did not pay to watch this crap. Were it not for a friend and their family invitation to watch it with them, I would not have paid to watch this show.
We are only in the second episode and already many reviewers are being disgusted with this new Star Trek series. This is going to be the second bomb based on Star Trek shown on CBS access. This does not bode well for CBS access. If I had money invested in CBS, I would seriously think of cashing it in before stock prices start crapping out due to this second failure.
Luchshe, chem lyudi (2018)
Great Story, Voice actors could use acting lessons!
First of all, I agree with many previous reviewers - This is one that knocks it out of the ballpark! The story is clever even though it relies on a lot of often used-on-TV problem or conflicted characters: Teenage angst, broken cop, corrupt cops, robot-trying-to-understand-humans, killer-robots, strong and very gun-happy bad guys, girl hacker, social-minded protesters gone too far, etc. But it works to keep the story from being boring and too keep you watching and waiting for the next episode. I am on episode 8, and have binge watched most of the series over consequtive two days. My only problem with this series is that the English speaking voice actors are not always very good actors and the dialog departs from BOTH sets of English subtitles, at too many times to ignore. There are moments the characters are supposed to be Extremely angry, very happy or really sad, and the voice actors are literally saying the words as if they are just reading from a script! (Calling it in?) It's too bad, really because the director really has them syncing their spoken words to the lips on the screen so much so that you would hardly notice the movie was dubbed in a different language. Netflix You could have done SO much worse - but you didn't. You have so little left to get this right, Please put in a little more effort to get a perfect grade! All in all, i highly recommend this show to any sci-fi lover except the most picky.
Whiskey Cavalier (2019)
Hated the trailers, Loved the show!
The trailers for this show didn't do it justice. I hated the show as seen from the trailers. Weeks later, with nothing to watch I visited a friend and they were watchibg this show. I loved it. Sure, it makes fun of other shows and movies but from the trailers it looked like THAT was all there was to this show. I liked the banter and enjoyed the spy themes, and enjoyed tgeir adventures. The satire of other spy shows and movies were fun when done seriously but felt more like slapstic humor at best. TI rooted for the characters as they grew, as some became more competent and others became more human. I am sorry to see this show end so prematurely - It had SO much potential.
Breaking & Exiting (2018)
Kept me awake!
Usually I work hard all day and come home to rest. So when wifey said she wanted to see this movie, I warned her I may fall asleep - as usually happens at home. Well, This movie was So different but in a fun way - That I didn't get to sleep at All!
This movie was fun and I saw where the guy ws going even though the female charscter snd my wife did not. So YES, I obviously HAD to see it thru to the rnd to see if i was right. Glad i did stay up, the movie was entertaining without getting sappy and predictable. I highly recommend it, even for tired old fogeys who think they've seen too many rom-coms to expect anything different!
The Orville: Identity (2019)
Timmy goes off to find Lassie!
My, oh My... I couldn't believe the helmsman could do such a wonderful tribute to a Rock song but he did. So unexpected from a jokester! And a nice nod to old series like Lassie, etc. where the boy (child?) goes off on his own to search for a "lost" loved one! Although I can't believe a child could get off the ship thru sn unguarddd entrance, I have seen such things happen in real life. So is it a cliché if it happens to be true? Well, I like that the child's quest uncovers things adults wouldn't tell him, or each other. This is Star Trek as it should be, stories not about death rays, high technology and Space ships but about people and emotional situations we aren't comfortable discussing on our own but seeing others go thru it allows us to openly discuss it and think on it. I sm Loving the Orville as though it's Star Trek... I can't be the only one?
Killing Eve: God, I'm Tired (2018)
Confused!
First of all I have to say that I did enjoy this episode. although I found it confusing at the end to find that our heroine stabs her evil counterpart while in bed with her. Is that some kind of lesbian metaphor? I don't really know nor do I care to analyze it but it does seem out of place in this cop chases criminal to The bitter end, ala "The French connection". Okay maybe I have my movies mixed up but if you've seen this episode you kind of get my drift. I think Eve should have broke down and cried after stabbing Villanueva, as people often do after the end of very emotional case or chase in this case. There's something wrong about that last part of the episode that does not bode well. Perhaps it was because it was too serious or perhaps it was the dialog sounded a little too confusing for two enemies to say to each other after coming face-to-face with each other. The poor dialogue, I guess it is what it is, reminds me more of a bad comic book then I'm a TV show or a serious movie or reality for that matter. I can't quite wrap my head around the fact that this show does not stay with either serious or comedy but tries to mix it up in a twisted way. I did enjoy the bad character escaping therefore saying "come back and see us next season".
The Pioneer Woman (2011)
Don't Judge Pioneer times by Todays Standards!
First of all, let me reiterate that you can't judge "PIONEER Day" cooking by todays nutritional guidelines. It won't stand up to that kind of scrutiny.
Back in those days they ate BUTTER, drank WHOLE Milk (with the CREAMY, too) ate Bacon with extra FAT and a whole lot of Beef, when they could.
If you ate that way today, You wouldn't live past 50, if you were lucky.
Guess what the age expectancy of a human being back in those times were? About 35 for men, 50 or for women. I am not pulling your leg - Look it up.. or GOOGLE it, Now that you can. (There weren't any kind of GOOGLE back in Horse and Buggy days!)
Everyone here who is griping about the abysmal recipes is centering on the very fact that these recipes aren't healthy - Well, THAT is how it was back then. Food TASTE mattered back then as much as HEALTHY Nutrition matters now.
Try some foods reminiscent of those times, like SOUTHERN food. Now, you ask anyone down south and they likely still eat unhealthy foods that taste REALLY good but will kill you eventually. This is food that has items like String beans cooked in Pork Fat, for Flavor of course. So adding Bacon to a can of beans is a treat to the tongue.
My favorite food used to be Chinese Take-Out. But back a few decades ago there was this push to shame Chinese restaurants into making their foods more healthy - cutting down on Sodium, Nitrates and many other items deamed Unhealthy. Guess what, Now it's rather BLAND and Pale. Sorry, if I wanted something that tasted like brown rice in my food I'd have thrown some dirt in with my White rice.
My point is, You can't have food both HEALTHY and true to historical facts.
Lethal Weapon (2016)
Bet Season 3 ratings are in the Dumpster without Clayne!
This Clayne guy was really good at capturing the sadness and mental problems of the same character in the movies. My heart sank when I found out the FIRED him! I never enjoyed the funny and picturesque family life of his partner... It was never the best part of the films, So why make it a big part of the show? - To showcase Damon Wayans as a funnyman?
That isn't what the movies were about. It was a buddy-cop movie where one buddy was SO lost his other buddy had to step in to save him from himself.
Without THAT and without the TWO buddies, It isn't the same... So why use keep the Same name as before (Lethal Weapon)... Without the crazy guy character, it aint LETHAL anymore.. it's just LAME!
I Like Damon Wayans in comedies but this wasn't supposed to be a comedy... or else WHY take the name of a serious movie, if Season 3 is how any indication of what you wanted this show to be (a comedy) - Then you should have called it POLICE ACADEMY ..and have been done with it. But to use an actor who won't do "Cop Stuff" like holding a gun or running after criminals... that's just ridiculous. Call it ANY ELSE other than LETHAL WEAPON, Please - Cause I'm aint watching any more of it without the original cast.
The Expanse (2015)
BING WORTHY! and I Love it! - WHY Doesn't NETFLIX Pick this UP?
Man oh Man - This is a GREAT show! It is HIGHLY recommended by George R.R. Martin - The father of GAMES OF THRONES books & TV shows. He LOVES this show and the books it was based on. What more can I say?
Sure it's emphasis on drama and Sci-fi may not appeal to all, but it has GREAT Production value - especially in those Shots in outer space and those involving showing action of the characters and Ships while floating in Space!
The visuals are SO Gorgeous... Yes, I used that word! They are GORGEOUS on a 60" 4K TV set! Mind you, a lot of 1080p stuff just doesn't look as good when blown up on a 4K TV that measures 60 inches! But really, watching the space ships and pieces from explosions moving through space.. you get a feeling of REALLY watching stuff moving in Space. Some said they demonstrate real (SPACE) Physics... I'm telling you that stuff moves as it should whether it's a space ship travelling through space or pieces of ships blown up moving outward in space. And NO flames during space explosions or in Rocket plumes!
This is what STAR TREK strived to follow but this program does it even better. Imagine a space series without overdone special effects that look cheesy in years to come, No warp speed or Teleportation devices... Even Ships' interiors that look like they evolved from the next generation space craft from NASA.
The actors are all SO incredible. I have a hard time finding fault with anyone's acting abilities, even the child actors!
I've invested heavily in this show, and there are many times I wish I could stream this show and OD on re-watching the entire series, Yes - BING WORTHY! - I'd stay up all weekend just to be able to watch all their episodes!
NETFLIX - Do you hear me? I'm one of your customers and I'd love for you to pick this series as one of your own and continue the series for some time!
Lucifer (2016)
CANCELLED? JeezUs!
I can't believe this show has been cancelled already. It was FUNNY and WELL written.... although there were times I wish they'd hire more writers for this show because I loved the banter between Lucifer and the Detective (Chloe) that really showed us Lucifer wasn't as GOOD as he seemed.
I loved that it seemed to follow some religious dogma and never lampooned it.
Unfortunately this cancellation smells of Network giving in to the early protest by religious groups. If ONLY they had watched it... None of it made fun of religion or any one's beliefs!
I am going to miss this show... I've watched hoping there'd be some reruns - I could watch this show So many times more!
