Sleepover Nightmare (2005)
OK script turned badly into a movie
The story is not original at all, but it is exactly more of what slasher fans want: people getting killed by a crazy psycho. In this case, teenagers (it is always them) are killed while in a party, at a remote house, by an unmasked - but long-hair-covering-the-face type of - killer. Pretty innovative, huh? But as I said, it just follows the road of 95% of the other titles in the subgenre. The real problem is that its OK script could have resulted in another average slasher movie, had they been granted more money to get decent producers, directors and actors - I must say that the guy who plays the killer acts well his part, though. It looks as if they used an old Cybershot to record it, giving the tone of a completely amateur project.
Lake Eerie (2016)
Awful
It is hard to know where to start describing how bad this movie is. All of it: acting, script, photography, "effects". It fails to create atmosphere due to the terrible acting of the two leads, and when the third "main character" walks in, her performance is so desperate and exaggerated that it just makes the acting as a whole worse. The background story is over explained and its telling scenes are so long that it is almost a patience test with the viewer - it gets to the point of "whatever", you do not care anymore. I honestly cannot believe there are people who got to enjoy such a poor production (and I need to emphasize this has nothing to do with money; there are plenty of REALLY low budget movies which are awesome), and it makes me think if the writers of some comments were paid and/or are related to the cast and crew. The only good thing I can say about it is that it could have worked as a book. That is, of course, after a good ol' editing process.
Hollows Grove (2014)
An okay found footage film
Good effort at a found footage. The setting is great and despite how cliché the plot has become thus far, it had everything to be an awesome title in the genre. But... the acting is very bad. Lance Henriksen is the only actor here; the others look as though they are performing in a school play. The agent scenes are cringeworthy and cheesy as hell - as is the actor's job here. Most of the effects are also pretty cheap and the overuse of children's voices and sounds aloud ruined the mood for me. The script is also not free from the biggest pitfall of the genre: when the characters get face-to-face with some weird and scary stuff they simply do not react as any ordinary human being would in the same situation, i.e.: freak out and run the hell away. They end up doing it, eventually, but it takes a whole lot of time and one even gets courageous enough to venture into dark rooms after hearing his name - knowing for sure that it couldn't have been none of his friends who was calling. That being said, the major shooting of the TV show sequence is actually entertaining, as if we are watching the making of Ghost Adventures. The appearance of the bloody girl with the knife is also a very, very nice touch. Had the movie bypassed the flaws that killed its impact and power to scare, this really could have been THE scene. Overall, it accounts to an okay film.
Savaged (2013)
Amazing!
Such a hidden gem! It is hard to believe that good horror movies like this pass by not being noticed by the majority of the genre fans. Great actors and really well done make-up effects. Despite the main plot not being so original (it could easily be named "I Spit on Your Grave 4: Indian Vengeance" LOL - which I do not intend to mean something bad, as I LOVE the "Spit on your Grave" films), there is a supernatural element added to this one and it only makes the story stronger and more interesting. The only thing that could be considered a "flaw" are some of the special effects, but the movie altogether is so amazing that even the little poor effects cannot take away any of the greatness that "Savaged" has to offer in its 95 minutes.
The Perfect Husband (2014)
Hated it
I seriously don't understand how as bad a movie as this gets financed and distributed. Terrible script and bad acting. So many good projects get turned down and this crap gets approved. Shame on everyone involved. I need to get at least 10 lines for this review to be published, but this movie is so bad that I can't even think of what is left to say about it. Oh, wait. The stupid decisions the female character makes: 1 - If you have a weapon in your hand and your enemy is down, what would you do? Throw the weapon away, of course! 2 - When you finally find another weapon and your chaser is coming, what do you do? Take the weapon and try and defend yourself? No! You completely ignore it. The worst of it is that the "twist" in the end doesn't surprise at all - because the decisions cited above were so absurd that the only reasonable explanation had got to be the one showed in the end (so you assume it beforehand) -, quite the opposite really; whereas it should have been a surprise, it rather makes you feel dumb as a spectator and rushed as hell as an excuse to end the movie. The script lacked so much in content that they had to include scenes like the one right at the beginning, in which she demands he stop the car so she can hurry to the bathroom - she goes to an old abandoned village to smoke instead, while we keep on hearing breathing and strange noises in shots from inside the houses, including a shadow, as if there was a crazy maniac or some evil entity watching her and getting ready to chase the couple. WHY?! Why insert something so oddly placed as this right in the beginning, only to go on a whole different direction afterwards? Don't waste your time or money with this.
