The Social Dilemma (2020)
Glad that this documentary exists! :)
Although it offers scary realizations, I'm really glad finally somebody has started this conversation in this way before it is too late.
I hope that all of us... we watch, we think, we learn, and we unlearn everything that we need to to make it right again.
I hope we can soon use tech for all of its helpful aspects, and stop being used by it to end up completely helpless like we are now.
Bandish Bandits (2020)
It's like a painfully long commercial Hindi movie, with soulful music :)
The cast is extremely talented, except for the young lead characters Radhe and Tamanna.
Actually, Tamanna makes Radhe look much better in terms of acting.
However, it's incomprehensible to me as to how Radhe continues to go on like a normal-functioning adult after every other revelation about his family's past that I suppose would be groundbreaking for him in many ways!
These flashbacks packed with belief-altering information are introduced casually from time to time, whenever the romatic plotline becomes duller than before :-/
I really looked forward to watching Naseeruddin Shah, Atul Kulkarni, Sheeba and other very talented people together but unfortunately the story appears insincere and uninspired in parts. It honestly doesn't do justice to their acting capabilities.
The series doesn't really dwell on the effects of patriarchy on the characters, or the prejudices of classical as well as pop music about each other, and many little issues that need some illumination.
Would it be wrong to expect for aseries of this scale can to do just that?
Honestly, I was rooting for the story and the performances to pick up from episode 1 onwards just as the music did, but it just couldn't. And the episodes are awfully long without any substantial takeaways!
Hoep this helps.
May be you could watch their beautiful music videos on YouTube or something :)
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020)
More of such stories need to be told
Excellent performance by Pankaj Tripathi! He makes being this encouraging father look so effortless :)
I understand a lot of people here are disappointed by Jahnvi's performance, mostly because of reasons apart from just acting. She isn't that bad. Especially in the second half, she is much better than the reviews describe here.
In my opinion, the story is powerful enough to make up for minor shortcomings here and there.
We definitely need more of such inspiring stories to be told so little girls don't stop dreaming as they grow older.
Consider trying this some time:
Imagine you don't know anything about the movie in terms of who produced it, who the actor or writer's parents are, where is it shot, and all of such things.
Does the movie still connect with you? Merit? How would you rate it?
(Try this with any movie. Notice your feeligs about it. Believe me, you'll be surprised! :))
Paatal Lok (2020)
Captivating! Superb performances 👌
It's certainly one of the finest series in Hindi in this genre. It keeps you enagaged, every character has something meaningful to say, so many subjects have been touched upon but not once does it feel preachy in any way. I'd love for more people to watch it, and with an open mind.
I also liked the fact that the subtitles were not literally translated, and this way the regional dialogues made more sense to a viewer who might not otherwise understand them in the original audio.
I really tried to watch Mirzapur, but just could not. It was too much for me. I mean, more crude than I was willing to consume. It became unwatchable!
But Paatal Lok didn't disappoint. It is raw, like many reviewers said here, but it is not just that. It really has something substantial to say. And that's what's most important for a series in this format.
I hope you enjoy watching it, too :)
She (2020)
Not worth your time.
A totally pointless story (if you could call a few sex scenes patched together a "story")
The police and the criminals are portrayed to be extremely gullible for their chosen professions, probably so they could simply steer the "story" whichever way they like, whenever!
You've been warned.
House Arrest (2019)
Nothing about this works! Absolutely nothing..sigh
If you're here for a light romantic comedy in Hindi, this is not it. My only takeaway from this was the beautiful tidy house. Nothing else works!
Sigh.. I wish I could get back the time I wasted watching this, but I guess I can try to save yours 🙈
Thank me later!
Thugs of Hindostan (2018)
It's so bad! Cannot even.
Anything is better than watching this movie. Any. Thing.
What a waste of money, effort, time.. both movie makers' and mine!
There must be such a pool of talented out-of-work actors watching this movie and wanting to hang themselves! They must be so frustrated. Even Mr. Yash Chopra would be so frustrated, disappointed and sad.. but not as much as I am. 😐
