The Longest Promise, a Chinese fantasy drama starring Zhan Xiao and Min Ren, was in many ways an amazing drama, that had many good points and some glaring flaws. Needless to say, the actors were good in their roles and as such should be applauded for a job well done, considering the complexity of the storyline. The costumes, music and cinematography were also good.
The problem was the script/screenplay, which in my opinion was all over the place. There were simply too many subplots, too many plot holes, too many unanswered questions, too many what ifs at the end of the drama for this viewer to give this drama anything above an 8. The main leads were even affected by this poor planning and screenwriting. The proof of this is that the ending was different from the ending in the novel on which it was based and thus proved to be a disappointment for many viewers (this reviewer included). This cdrama leaves you wanting more clarity. I wish the screenplay writers had stuck with the plot as presented in the novel.
