The French Connection (1971)
Oh Snap!
I don't understand why is this film considered by many to be so great.
Lighting is snap. Editing is snap. Cinematography is snap. Can't even see the actors face or expression in many scenes.
Music is snap. The dialog where is exists is snap. The audio recording quality is snap. Can't even understand what the characters are saying in many of the scenes without turning on subtitles. Even then, the subtitles often read "inaudible dialog" or "indistinct".
Not sure how even the greatest story could overcome these creative and technical obstacles.
Five Oscars including best picture!? Was 1971 a really good year for snap film or a really bad year for good film?
Someone please enlighten me. What am I missing?

Doomsday Agenta?
I haven't seen this film, but based on the comments I've read I plan to. I'm working in a so called "Green" building now and there's another one going up on the other end of the block. Hopefully this type of design innovation can have a positive effect on the environment.
Just a quick point or two for Rob Stella above: Arguably Al Gore has done more for environment awareness than anyone in history. He's about the best thing going for America after seven years of Dubbya. He's no longer involved in politics so how can he have an agenda? I think he truly believes global warming is the greatest threat to humanity and he's trying honestly to bring about positive change.
