Let's Kill Ward's Wife (2014)
Hahaha! How Scott?
A funny and light hearted feel god movie about murder. Yes, a light hearted feel good movie about killing a horrible person that every character was wishing to do before she pushed one of them too far in a moment. Ward's wife was a miserable being, the type of person that made life miserable for everyone and anyone unfortunate enough to interact with her. To such an extent everyone wanted here gone. And then she was, and the group of friends involved had to figure out what to do next. Scott Foley written, produced & acted in this crazy off the wall lifting movie about removing the problem from their small piece of the worlds society. Crazy mind Scott, can only image who made you feel like you had to make this. It had to be cathartic though. And I hope it wasn't made at a (bad) therapists advise to release the stress of a situation to be able to move forward. All I can say is Wow. 7/10 much better and more fun than the subject matter should had allowed, I'm laughing thinking about it.
Smile (2022)
A throwback
It's a re-skin, if not somewhat a retelling, of the Denzel Washington, John Goodman, Donald Sutherland, and James Gandolfin movie Fallen. Replace the angel phenomenon with a psychotic spirit that requires or thrives on trauma of others to kill and move between its victims one after another. It continues along the Fallen trail throughout the film down to the idea of getting it alone in a remote place where it can't continue to another victim, but with a slight twist as the story continues (and it's not the cat). It's production and editing are also so very familiar with story telling of the period and before. It's an enjoyable film, worth a watch if you are a fan of the genre.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Wash and repeat
Wash and repeat, meaning it's a reskinning of a familiar story we have all seen a million times before in so many other movies and television programs. The choices made affecting the destinations to the next choice & the next, never ending with all decisions made and a nearly infinite multitude of possible timelines for which there is only one. Not imagining all possible conclusions of those happening at once and you have the minor twist in this story. Portraying the selfish nature of people, their expected stupidity of children only wanting for themself, the experience of life's wisdom wanting to teach young persons before they can make the mistakes they don't even know exist and the drama of all of the typical life moments that we are smart enough to know and not waste a moment watching on film. You have seen this one before, it's a skip. There are better things for you out there.
Bandit (2022)
it's a decent real story brought to film
To tell the truth I was hoping for more. From reading so many reviews I thought maybe it would be more serious, but it plays off as a soft comedy crime movie like Showtime. Which is fine, but can't someone please make a straight laced action movie, crime thriller, anything, please. It's worth a watch, but I usually avoid these immature production styles to film. Well acted on all accounts, just wish it wasn't produced as a crime dramedy. To those looking to a review to judge if they want to watch it, think of this film based on real life events as not being presented seriously, but rather a light fluff piece for the family.
Moonfall (2022)
Solid Story in a strange package
It's logical, yet ridiculous. Great story premise, but chaotic and very much all over the place. It's a scientific theory of principle, at the same time wild fantasy and the terribleness of a disaster movie (but only as a secondary plot, has no reflection in the main direction of the film). If it would had kept the basis of the grand storyline, but stayed grounded instead of going over the top disaster movie or even the common military govern stupidity (which I was glad it was eliminated in a moment) which is cookie cutter true to its form as it's been the same over decades of film, it could had been a legendary film for the ages.
But instead, it's fragmented to the extreme and suffering from very poor digital effects which look like a video game. If digital effects don't look like I could could peer out my window and see the subject don't use them. All of that said if the viewer is intelligent enough to focus on the true story and not the distracting & meaningless side plots it's a very enjoyable movie. And it begs for a sequel following the ending.. given the sequel is properly backed by grade A production, editing, and an effects team that forgets graphic and remembers what reality looks like. I dream and beg for a proper sequel. 8 in story, if I hung up on production value I might give it a 5 but that wouldn't be fair to what the movie really is.
Father of the Bride (2022)
Soul Crushing Remake
That poor man. What horrible piece of story telling on how to disrespect and ostracize a person into crippling depression until he breaks. Such selfish behavior from so many. Love has enough experiences. Do not watch this movie. Surprised no characters harmed themselves. Dark and ugly movie. But I went into it expecting something light and fun, so take it for what it is.
Marry Me (2022)
light-hearted
Not something I was expecting to enjoy as much as I did. This is a solid light hearted romantic drama, not sure why it's falling under romcom with so many people, I guess I failed to see the comedy. I saw this as a story of a moment of change that reminded a women to keep her feet firmly planted on the ground. It's heart felt and true, very relatable to the realities of life. It's a solid 7 stars (could be more but I reserve 8 and greater for the extraordinary). I liked it very much and you will too.
Daughter of the Wolf (2019)
0/10
Would be a zero if it wasn't for Brendan Fehr's solid performance, as it was the only redeemable part of the entire movie. I don't understand the Richard Dreyfuss casting in a C level movie like this, not something I would ever expect. He is far too good and experienced an actor to have any part in a low level film. And in this film he displayed nothing to pull it out of the garage bin. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.
The Protégé (2021)
Good could had been very good movie
The protégé is a solid, feet firmly planted on the ground, movie. Meaning it was produced and edited in what one would considered a style of the past. Which is a very good thing as it draws you in, you can feel and relate to the subjects in a very real manner. I read one reviewer stating it was confusing and the elements of the back story needed to be explained. I'm so glad it wasn't as that kind dumbing down destroys too making projects that may otherwise have been successful. That reviewer must really struggle in life if he needs hand holding like that of a child in his movie viewing. Back to the film, it was engaging and real. A few twists and turns as focus on characters change which I found to be a breath of fresh air. The movie was too notch until in last minutes which I won't mention but I found lacking. Should had been at least an 8/10.
The Grand Seduction (2013)
Heartfelt and honest dishonesty
The grand seduction is an enchanting movie, which places the audience in the role of a young doctor whom the townspeople are deceiving in hopes to lure life back to their village (oops, I mean port). Which leaves a viewer with the feeling of being courted as an entire town is invested in coming together to seduce the doctor into staying with them. In their deception there is a quaint heartfelt genuine feeling of family and community that will leave if an audience wanting this life for themselves too.
The Hero (2017)
Thank You Sam Elliot
An incredibly real emotional moving film of our ordinarily extraordinary life. Sam does an incredible job portraying an aging single estranged father and actor living a bachelor life very quiet and alone which gets disrupted by a life-threatening health condition, family confrontation, and a younger spirited woman. A wholesome and soul calming pleasure to watch. Thank You to all involved.
Wrath of Man (2021)
Emotional Rollercoaster
Strap in, You're in for a ride . This gripping ride along with a man out to balance the scales is all of the above: extremely satisfying, yet gut wrenching, while being heartbreaking and ultimately hollow. There's a hole in the soul that will never be patched. Truly an extraordinary film, I cannot recommend it enough. A perfect piece of film making which we don't see very often. It's a must see, feel, Experience. A true Gem.
Getting to Know You (2020)
Highly Recommended, Sucks You In More Every Minute
A telling of life, extremely relatable. Its a story of the track lives take from choices made, and sacrificing what seems like happiness in a moment for what seems to be the right and responsible decisions to make. Every character has the same life arch following paths to where they are now, even the character of the brother only spoken of and the background noise of the hotel staff. Its a solid watch full of depth and real life perceptions.
8-Bit Christmas (2021)
The New Elf, only very different
Brought to us by the maker of Elf, here is a story less full of the low level stooge humor of Elf and more a light hearted slap in the face story of a wake up call. It's here trying to remind the self-centered lost fools of what actual matters, and matters most. Very heart felt and true. Life is one simple thing, experiences shared. Merry Christmas Everyone! And R. I. P. To all the souls we've had the pleasure of experiencing and lost along the way. Take off your blinders people and bless this amazingly beautiful world of ours, be present and honest to everyone and of course yourself.
Kodachrome (2017)
Life in Picture
A Perfect Capture of Life
Bravo. This is life well told. A Kodak moment of its own. Everyone in this small world of ours would benefit from experiencing it.
Class Action Park (2020)
Shaking My Head Watching This
Lol! This is good for a light hearted laugh. But otherwise unfortunately this so called documentary is the equivalent of going to a small town coffeeshop and hearing all the over-exaggerated tall tales of small town gossip which rarely has anything in common with any truth, but it ends up more about bored people with too much time on their hands inventing stories to make themselves feel better in their own lives. Impossible to take seriously, but was a fun watch.
The Prince (2014)
lost in the editing room
The acting was there just like any "a list Hollywood blockbuster", but it was left stripped bare. If the editing was given top billing it's a John Wick level movie and performance. But released as it is, it's a B movie level where a viewer can only watch and be disappointed in what it could had been.
Lucifer (2016)
Jumped the shark x1000
(Updated) The 1st season of this fox original series was 10/10. The following seasons were less so, but not bad (just a different show). I was glad when Netflix picked it up after fox canceled the series, ever since it has been hit and miss from episode to episode. Then came season 6, which is mostly unwatchable, jumped the shark over and over again. It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion. It's now garbage.
Fantasy Island (2021)
This is a shallow empty version of an 80s classic.
Another poorly structured shallow 1980s remake, it needs more depth and meaning. I was hoping for something more uplifting being it is based on a show that was as uplifting as anything that's ever been made. But it is hallow and needlessly manipulative/cruel. Deeply disappointed in something that could had been great.
Fear Street: 1994 (2021)
Throwback 80's B movie
Not horrible, but far from good. Peaked at the beginning and got worse as it went on. Glad I watched it once just for the throwback feel, but it's a stereotypical 80's B movie (in this case series) for which there are already many (and better) to choose from.
Freaky (2020)
it's fun
It's a fun throwback horror style from the 80's, but plays out less like a movie and more like an episode of HBO's Tales From the Crypt (freaky friday style). It's fun and I enjoyed it but if it were from the mentioned tales show, it would be one of the more forgettable average ones.
Val (2021)
Actual Life
Nice to see someone gets it. Actual life, putting it straight out there, no hiding or playing make believe towards what one wants others to see. Just ownership and TRUTH. Which is the only thing that's real anyway. Thank You for the honor Val.
The Leisure Seeker (2017)
Heartfelt and True
Just people being people, round and round we go on this tiny little thing we call earth living the same lives over and over again, with only fools like that of the son character thinking age plays such a role. Experience is to be respected and looked up to, if not worshipped for all the lessons of life.
The Burnt Orange Heresy (2019)
tired, foolish and hallow
A story misguided, and told again and again in many previous forms. False psychological dribble of a non-existent man whom only lives through others with nothing to offer of himself. Tired.
Coming 2 America (2021)
if something is good....
... why ruin it? well, why did you do exactly what you referenced. The sharp wit of the first is gone, unintelligent & dumbed down. I did enjoy the ceremony , it was light hearted fun and an uplifting way to end the movie changing the feeling that was lost to the rest of the film.
