Pathaan (2023)
Pretty good movie after a long time
"Pathaan" is a 2019 Indian action thriller film directed by Siddharth Anand, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham in the lead roles. The movie revolves around Jim (John Abraham), an Indian intelligence officer who goes rogue, and hero of the movie, Pathaan (Shah Rukh Khan), who is tasked with bringing him down.
The film is an action-packed extravaganza that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout its runtime. The fight sequences are expertly choreographed and executed, making them a visual treat for action movie fans. Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham are both outstanding in their roles, with their impressive physical abilities and screen presence making their performances truly spectacular.
The story of the movie is well-structured and keeps the viewers engaged from beginning to end. The plot twists and turns in unexpected ways, leaving the audience guessing until the very end. The pacing of the film is spot on, with the action sequences perfectly interspersed with moments of character development and plot progression.
The music and background score of the movie is also noteworthy, adding to the overall excitement and thrill of the film. The cinematography and visual effects are top-notch, giving the movie a grand and polished look.
Overall, "Pathaan" is a must-watch for fans of action movies. The film delivers an adrenaline-fueled experience that is sure to keep you entertained from start to finish. The performances of Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham are exceptional, and the action sequences are some of the best seen in Indian cinema. "Pathaan" is a great example of what can be achieved in Indian cinema, and is a movie that should not be missed.
I would have rate this movie maximum 7 or 8 but giving out 10 to balance unnecessary hatred.
Ram Setu (2022)
Boring and senseless
Disappointed with the way Akshay is making movies these days. He has lost his charm for the sake of pleasing the government supported projects. Nothing is wrong in making movies pro Hindu but one has to do enough research to make it interesting. Film simply created unnecessary pressure which no one ever felt. A religiously significant Ram Setu was given a deadline of just 3 days to be destroyed by SC is purely laughable.
Acting was mediocre and bad especially when it comes to actresses. Event sad moments were not looking sad, people were killed for twist but they were anyways looking annoying. Movie is fast paced and without logic. In short, there was nothing that I could remember and I finished it in just 45 minutes roughly. Akshay is good in comedy and he should work with good directors instead of these.
K.G.F: Chapter 2 (2022)
My 10 points why this movie is an average one
I wish to share my frank assessment of KGF 2. Sincerity be told, I am not a major fan of movies where a single hero defeats a sizable band of baddies. This is not only not conceivable, but it also inevitably leads to absurd combat scenes, defying gravity action sequences, and more. So don't count on me to praise you without question like a little kid. KGF 2 doesn't contribute anything new to the tale beyond what the first Chapter did. However, the timing and execution of the film were generally quite interesting. That doesn't mean there weren't any awkward scenes, tiresome frames, etc.
The movie's shortcomings are listed below. Although this film had the potential to set a standard for subsequent action films, it fell short on a number of fronts.
1. No other characters' personalities were explored in the story; it was all about Rocky.
2. Rocky's goal or pledge to his mother was unquestionably supported by the public. In other words, they lacked a life of their own and relied entirely on the existence of Rocky. It might be true for a select few of his close friends, but not for 1.5 million.
3. Some action sequences changed abruptly, with several dark screens in between; this was unnecessary, and it was actually painful to watch them.
4. Who uses helicopters for cooling, and it doesn't look cool as well. Perhaps he might have served her with his own hands, which would have added romance and significance to the scene.
5. It was excessive to hold the bridge while it was on fire and Dutt was holding it until the final car passed. The bridge was a hanging type made of wood, but everything else was cutting edge.
6. Rocky was so rude towards his father because he was careless towards his mother. Is it sufficient justification to degrade his father? To justify such scene, they should have portrayed domestic abuse or anything from his father towards his mother.
7. While other guys engaged in gunfights, one man consistently engaged in hand combat with hundreds of men. He had nobody to shoot at with a gun.
8. What caused the girl to take care of Rocky after being abducted and transported to Dutt. Rocky pursued her, alone, of course, killing everyone in his path. He was defeated, but the events that followed didn't make sense, such as how the girl came to care about him even though he treated her quite roughly.
9. Rocky didn't show any other emotion beside an angry and a macho mode, and people are calling it an acting. I'm sorry, but with just one set of emotions, you can't compare it to the standards set by performers like Kamal Hasan, Mohanlal, Amitabh, Dilip Kumar, and others who have mastered a variety of emotions. His acting is by no means masterful.
10. Despite the fact that the villains carried guns and appeared in large numbers, they were occasionally depicted terrified even if Rocky was not carrying anything.
I like the fast-paced narration at parts, but I will be unable to watch it again. Instead, even this time, I repeatedly skipped forward, completing the 2.5-hour film in just 1.5 hours.
I could have rated it 5/10 but since kids were so much into it, they put their logic aside and overlooked all the shortcoming for entertainment. Therefore, to balance out I am rating it 1, which I totally disagree. Maybe, the viewers were treated like an entertainment by the director, actors, etc. Like how the girl was an entertainment for Rocky. Anyways, this movie is good in parts but doesn't deserve more than 8*. Yash was good if we only talk about one emotion. All the credit goes to the team for making this movie somewhat fast paced and entertaining.
Shershaah (2021)
Good movie minus love scenes
Anything based on the Indian Army should not be given a score of ten out of ten. The film was nice, and it was wonderfully done, but it was a little sluggish towards the middle. There were instances in the beginning where the terrorist's leader slaughtered his guys because having a soft spot for soldiers didn't make sense, and it is an age-old technique to prove the other group has no compassion. If that's the case, why are so many people siding with them? Instead of depicting flimsy bad people, a more fair and honest approach might make the film more engaging. Of course, the film is about the Indian army, and the camaraderie is brilliantly depicted. The battle sequences are excellent, and the romance element was unnecessary; if it had been omitted, the film would have been tighter, more organized, and shorter than it is now.
Overall, it was a one-time viewing, and the final scene, in which the real Vikram Batra was seen, was quite moving. Siddharth's acting was excellent, as was the performance of the other troops. I finished the entire movie in 50 minutes due of the love sequences.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Hollywood will keep on making sci-fi movies without logic and story
My confidence in sci-fi movies has been restored after witnessing today that Hollywood is incapable of producing a good film but will continue to attempt for eons. Except for a few outstanding acts, this film lacked logic and narrative. As a result, the future army was looking for elder generations who might not have survived the present alien invasion in order to fight again. This may be replayed indefinitely since you can always locate those individuals in the past, much like the main character did after losing his daughter to an extraterrestrial. The final scene was hilarious, as they utilized a youngster to track out the alien's location. Was it some sort of joke?
Toofaan (2021)
Similar to Sultan
I'm not sure why FA made this film. First and foremost, I didn't find it fascinating since it was sluggish and the romance perspective was superfluous. Unnecessary negative publicity from bhakts is one thing, but the film itself falls short. It appears that they had this concept before Sultan, but for whatever reason, they postponed production. The love angle was superfluous, and everything seemed pushed one after the other. It doesn't deserve a one, and I'm not going to give it a ten to balance out the IMDb rating, but a five is adequate for the work FA put into this film.
Hello Charlie (2021)
Fake reviews to put imdb rating high
Even with a good concept, bollywood can make crap. Acting of the male lead was OK but rest of the people were mediocre just because the story was bad. Everything look like forces on viewers. The last half an hour was unbearable.
Meri Pyaari Bindu (2017)
A great story but boring
I wanted to emotionally connect with it but couldn't feel it. I like this kind of a cinema but MPB is by far, a bad experience. I hope they could have added some meaningful screenplay to make the audience exciting about the sequences, however, I had to fast-forward it many times to see its end.
Dil Bechara (2020)
5/10 A remake and quite slow
Even though I like Sushant Singh Rajput but that doesn't mean it should be ranked high. I used to love SRK when he was making quality cinema but then he started making senseless stuff. I will be fare in ranking it 5/10 just because of the acting. However, the movie is quite slow and I couldn't watch it without skipping it, and literally finished it within 45 minutes. SSR was quite good but not at his best. Girl was fine, and the side actors didn't have enough screen space.
Rise of Empires: Ottoman (2020)
Great presentation but biased
I was excited to watch this series because not much has been shown about Ottomans. I was thinking it to be quite close to accuracy especially after going through some of the comments and the reviews in various newspapers. However, it looks biased and far from reality even though I am not aware of Turkish history and I felt like watching Bollywood masala. The series was shown full of stupid stuffs including hotheadedness and lack of judgement on the part of Sultan Mehmet II that from the second episode started looking quite absurd and false, as if someone is trying to deliberately showing him in a bad light to serve some propaganda. Moreover, throughout the series Turks were shown barbaric and weaker in comparison to the Italian pirates and the defenders of the city. The Christians were as usual shown merciful and Muslims as liars, barbaric, and cruel. Even the best of the best military personnel of Ottomans were shown getting dusted like a pack of cards without even hurting anyone though being labeled as the conquerors of many previous wars according to the speakers. The series was also shown more about the heroic of Giovani, an Italian pirate rather about Turks. He was shown extremely powerful and confident and Mehmet II was shown as weak and hotheaded. Although, the writers have tried to show him intelligent in one or two episodes but mostly he was shown arrogant and disrespectful towards his elders and even his own soldiers. I don't think that this can be true about a man who conquered and ruled over the most important part of the world and who built a great empire later on. How come a man of such lowly character can even establish anything. They can only be a destroyer and not a builder of anything, let alone a magnificent city, Istanbul. Finally, in the last two episodes, some unnecessary and childish things were shown in the form of an astrology and virgin Mary. They were showing a historical documentary but such scenes shows the blindness of the writers and they seem like a great fan of mythology.
Final note: I know history in movies is often shown biased and mostly according to the viewpoint of the narrators. With the coming of the web-series, this was not expected. If they have shown the weaknesses and the valor of both Turks and Romans, this would have been a great series. In the end, this is surely going to offend the Turks and please the Greeks and seriously upset the people like me who was thinking of something sensible especially after the mindless Biblical history in the form of Noah and Moses (Hollywood movies). Seriously disappointed and the makers are no better than Bollywood (I am an Indian) except with grand budget.
Panchayat (2020)
Disappointed from TVF. Not expected
I wasn't expecting this story. The series starts very well and it builds the premises quite nicely but with the new episodes, nothing new was observed. I had great expectation from this series but didn't enjoy after the mid-half as I keep waiting for something that can give the purpose to the main lead. He was always found solving useless stuffs. At the beginning, there was an important element of a poor guy struggling for food but nothing covered up later in the series. I started getting bore after the 3rd episode and literally finished it quickly in half an hour. Disappointed.
Acting-wise everyone was good and nuances of the village were beautifully captured. Something was missing in it, maybe the purpose of this guy.
K.G.F: Chapter 1 (2018)
Good one time watch
A huge hype was created before its release but this movie was made for a typical audience who love larger than life character where a single person takes on 100, simply unrealistic. Rest, the story building was good and had many elements to glue on screen but coming of a messiah was simply too much for a story which was touted inspired by the real event. I would have given it 10 stars if the main lead had played a major role in bringing people together rather creating a one-man show. The movie was a one time watch for me and I have seen something similar previously. Some scenes failed to create the push which people might have seen in Baahubali but still it is as good as that one. I prefer a realistic movie, so this is my rating which is still not bad.
Mulk (2018)
A great film to educate Indians
It is such a great subject to educate people of a country where hatred is blooming like never before. At first, I found myself at the side of ATS squad where I wish the accuser should die and his family should suffer because of their terrorist family and this attitude just not stop on Muslim but with anyone who do some crime. This movie has educated us to think out of the box. It is not true that an accuser family is also involve in a crime. No father or mother wishes to see his son die such a death and bring a bad name to their entire family.
People are different even if they are of the same religion and we need to appreciate the difference that's how the design of God is. A mulk is created with people, and whatever Tapsee said made lot of sense for a country otherwise it is just a land with lines on map and fool relate it to some fictional character.
Bhavesh Joshi Superhero (2018)
a very good movie
I have never given 10 star to any movie as I am not emotional to whatever I see. Thus 8 for this movie is quite good by any standard.
coming to movie, this is new and interesting. Throughout I remained on my seat waiting for the hero to turn superhero. Although, what was I expecting, it turns out to be way different but relatable. Acting was good, the screenplay was interesting but at some point I wanted it to be fast but no complain as the Director has always different visions. The concept of the movie is that we love our country and our common enemy is not a person of different faith but the one who are vampires within us. So, we should in our own capacity obey the rules and never bog down to corrupter. I always follow traffic rules and always put India above anything, so it is something close to me and I loved this movie. I highly recommend people to watch it
Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran (2018)
Interesting plot
After Madras Cafe, I have faith in John Abraham, an another class of actor who works on great cinema. This movie is great and will not make you feel bore throughout its running time.
Every moment is full of patriotism and it sincerely instill hope, sacrifice and love for the country. I highly recommend people to watch this flick. After a long time, I really liked a movie and watched every part of it.
Padman (2018)
Must watch movie, best after dangal or same
I had no great expectation from this movie as I was thinking to be as good as Toilet which I found Ok and exaggerating in some sequences or forced. But this movie is different and entertaining throughout.
There are parts in the end where Akshay speech in UN and Sonam emotional extension looked bit dragging but otherwise I felt the movie was nicely put together. Even those aforementioned scenes are good when you look at the movie holistically. Akshay acting, Radhika and even sonam looked perfect but everyone else also played there part quite good and it is said when the movie is good, the whole things look good.
I highly recommend to watch this movie and feel the pain a man goes through in showering his love and protection to his woman. It is also a romantic movie and the need of the time where people think beyond the box of bringing just two strangers to show love between them. Establishing love between a couple is what we need now so that love last long and not just until the day of marriage.
Padmaavat (2018)
It's a total work of fiction but not as good as SLB's work is known for.
So here comes a day finally I watched this epic. I am not too amused after watching this movie although I went without any expectation connecting to the history of the event or fiction of Malik Muhammad jayasi. .
Like any historical movie in India, it is a habit to define the characters as black and white which is something not anymore expectable in modern world but looking at the craze of the Indian mass connected to the self designed history whether Muslims or Hindus, it is difficult to expect any authenticity in the art. Instead, present so called protector of history will go crazy.
So Khilji is portrayed as barbaric although he belonged to the equally rich culture of Persia of which I guess most of Indians are unaware of. Whereas Rajputs are portrayed as highly righteous for which I don't think anyone can have any issues but showing them in a completely sugar-coated characters is indigestible to people having interest in war movie.
I think SLB style should be the focus of the review rather than the history, so here I share my brief cinematographic experience with the readers.
The Movie is slow but have over the top presentation. Some scenes I felt should have been omitted and had there been a cut of 30 minutes, I think the movie would have been smoother and exciting. All three actors did the right job but ranveer was more exciting and he is where the scenes light up my moments.
I rate it 5/10
War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)
An average movie
I have heard / watched such stories in past where ideologies clash. This time movie was made with Apes to make it look different. It is not different in storyline, but the execution is certainly great. There are people who mesmerize at the CGI but I go with stories and screenplay and for me, the film doesn't add anything new. Even Spider-Man was just like any other superhero movie has to offer nothing novel. May be we have reached a stage where stagnation of concepts has reached. may be directors or storytellers have to come up with topics that can be controversial yet offer different picture to our perception which so far hasn't been explored.
Golmaal Again (2017)
An average movie
Rohit Shetty was once known for good comedy specially with the classic golmaal and even after that he churned out some good numbers and even sRK Chennai express had some good laughing moments but this movie is low on such moment even though it has great ensemble cast of Devgan, warsi, etc.
It seems he has wasted the talents just to keep this franchise floating. Most of the main actors were wasted and there were no moments of laugh except couple of scenes in the first half only. The side actors such as vasooli Bhai, bubbly Bhai, johny lever were annoying and I couldn't understand or hear properly most of the punches. I had great expectation from this movie but it is something that I would not like to watch again. Tabu is such a fine actress but she is used horribly in this movie. Parineeta is a pretty fine actress who has been phenomenal in the other movies but she had minimum part to play in GA and seems like behaving like a side actress. What was in the mind of R. Shetty concerning Parineeti?. If he continue to perform like this, time is not far when people will start remembering him like RGV. He must sit down with some good writers, pay them good, work on punches, dialogues and come out with something that can excite your viewers for such a great franchise. Even if he comes with the other movie, people will still go to see his movies but with low expectations. Don't spoil the mood
Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017)
My something makes you complete
I didn't expect anything from this movie as I happened to watch it after almost 2 months before learning the critics and other IMDb reviews and I would say that they weren't wrong in judging it. I can't watch it again but for first timer, I would say that it will keep you engage with SRK Anushka chemistry for the first half in patches and then the movie drags. SRK no doubt acted well but movie had nothing new to offer so it was obvious that the onus was on his shoulder but just like some of his last ventures this movie too fall flat on its face. May be this time he is choosing good script with good directors and team but hard luck he couldn't capitalize on it. Not his fault but shear bad luck. Anyway, at the end of the movie, nothing overwhelm me except pair acting and SRK was very good. Movie had no story except two people roaming around Europe for the lost ring and trying to find something missing in each other.
Toilet - Ek Prem Katha (2017)
Movie of the Year
Honestly speaking Toilet is obviously not going to rock you throughout its running time but certainly would leave you mesmerize & wanting for more. Movie is backup with top notch performance of Akshay and the rest of the cast played their role perfectly. However, the last part of the movie seems forced to me like the director was in no mood to sit down and finish it with good climax. Songs seem unnecessary but the dialogue delivery and side kick of Akshay was hilarious and seriously pulled some great performance. This movie may not be the best of Akshay but certainly the best of this year. I didn't like and bother to watch Tubelight and JHMS after my colleagues comments but even most of them refrain from even giving 2 star to any of them. Baahubali made a huge figure this year but performance wise stands below to this one. I will recommend the moviegoers to check this one out as it would surely make your weekend worth enjoying.
Bãhubali 2: The Conclusion (2017)
Good Movie
Just watched this epic and I admit that SS Rajamouli has really put so much energy in it and his hard work is clearly visible. Film is excellent as far as content, dialogues, music is concerned but action and VFX wise it doesn't seem to me that great which it was promised for.
There were moments of people fighting with thousands and thousands of people with might and power is indigestible and on the top of it forced VFX. Not all VFX is bad, it is mind blowing in all areas except fight scene.
Music is great, story and screenplay is very engaging and it will hook you till the end to learn the climax but I don't know how I will react if I have to see it again. Obviously, it is not one time watch, I can surely watch it again and again and even the first part was good.
Acting was superb and the burden is completely on Prabhas who stood like rock and pulled everything beautifully.
The climax finished off quickly especially after a beautiful screenplay, I wanted some drama and a fear in the eyes of Bhallaldeva. However, I appreciate SSR creativity and truly he deserve to be known as the Director of Modern Era (DOME).
I happened to watch this movie one more time. The action scene in the end really sucks. May be last I watched with an awe but now it looks comical. It really doesn't exist nowhere near Dangal in fight scene. Dangal has beautifully executed action scenes that are mind blowing and here things are comical, fake and I saw all over YouTube people are laughing at its execution. Rest of the movie is still entertaining but minus action. I don't think I can ever watch this movie except if I need little fun. Sorry for the tone but despite using great VFX, Rajamouli should have invested sometime on action sequence. It is not VFX but the choice of action scene make it funny. I will be changing my rating from 8 to 6.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017)
One time watch
Even if a movie is a one time watch that simply means you can avoid watching it if you are not into watching movies all the time. Anyway, lead cast played quite well and one can't doubt about their acting prowess. Story is not different since directors have to bring new stuff, tone, script to make it watchable and different from other stuffs. Moreover, I think it is not in the hand of the director but we have already seen enough rom com that certainly it has become difficult to pen down an entirely different story. So to meet the demand, Badrinath is here to woo a woman to be his Dulhaniya. What is refreshing is the topic of Dowry, woman doing job after marriage, is given due importance which is the need of the hour. Well to be honest any good cause no matter how good it is can't make an average movie blockbuster unless it is backup with a good story line. So I personally think, scriptwriter should be given a huge importance and well written script movie should be encouraged excessively otherwise we will keep seeing such stories and wasting talent unnecessarily. Alia is superb as usual and Varun played each and every moment beautifully. really liked all his scenes with his friend that seriously made the movie worth watching and deserve 2 extra star from my side. I hope not to see any more Dilwale Dulhaniya rom com with weak scripts.
Jolly LLB 2 (2017)
So far the best movie of 2017
Jolly LLB (8/10) was beautiful so is Jolly LLB 2 (7/10). Why I gave 7 because it is like watching the first part with different characters and different story line. Same court room drama, similar lawyer arguments, tension etc. Predictable story line but performance wise it was good. Akshay was superb and he made this movie quite interesting except the songs. At least it is much better than Raees (5/10) and bit better than Kaabil (7/10) in some areas.
Very few moments where I felt like this movie should move faster, so the pace was perfect.
Raees (2017)
Raees was kind a one time watch and Nawazuddin
I decided to watch Kaabil (7/10) before Raees and I made the correct decision as I was bit reluctant to see Raees since it was based on gangster + messiah, which we have already seen quite a few times.
I used to be a great fan of SRK but lately his choices has disappointed me. SRK acting was mix of everything, sometime he looked perfect whereas in other places he looks unsatisfactory as well with his signature act. Anyway, SRK is obviously different in this movie and he was looking like a gangster but it was Nawazuddin who steal the show. He was perfect in dialogue delivery and literally I found movie interesting only in his screen space. Dialogues were good, songs were OK and Mahira or any other female was not needed. Songs like Zaalima seems forced to me.
The movie was expected to be based on some history and the way it was carried out ran like a real life except when it comes to action that looks awkward. A man bare-hand killing other gangsters at ease and chasing even doesn't look digestible with the narration.
Overall I found Raees one time watch. But the good thing is at least SRK is coming out of the kind of cinema he used to made between 2009 - 2015. This is the beginning of new era of SRK so one can expect better movies, performances in coming year. Fan (7/10) was a good performance based movie, so I was expecting something similar but somehow it lacks at many places.
