You're Next (2011)
Garbage
This is pure garbage. And not only garbage but absolutely ridiculous garbage with characters behaving like idiots and a climax which is as predictable as the drying paint on the wall. It starts with an elderly couple discovering that their house door is open. What do you do if you get home and find your door open? Surely not what our heroes do: they step in and don't bother. From now on, if I find my door unlocked I won't bother either, simply sit down and read newspaper.
Next, somebody starts to shoot arrows into the house - our brain dead people don't get down beyond the level of the windows, no. They idiotically try to move with chairs in their hands but in the next room they somehow forget again that they should get down. Our main heroine ("the best final girl") is an idiot too, she goes to the kitchen and stands in front of the windows! How pathetic. And meanwhile they all don't come to the idea to switch off the lights. My favourite scene is when the mother dies, after discovering it all the others have only one concern: the father should not see the dead body. Yes, if the mother is butchered, there may be a killer in the house, it would be time to find weapons and a hiding place, wouldn't it?
And there is also a woman who runs out of the house because she is so scared. Pity the others did not warn her that the killers are outside. Guess what happens - she dies. And the ending is equally predictable, you will figure out who planned all this between two laughter. Although there is no reason to laugh: this garbage has a cult following and has a higher rating than f. E. Next of Kin (1982) or the great Terrifier movies from recent years.
Chotto kawaii aian meiden (2014)
Suprisingly sexy movie with some great nudity and girls
The Torture Club is a very well-made sexploitation movie - the cast is attractive (basically it's the four girls only and a rabbit), the camera is mostly at the right place, the torture scenes are not too difficult to take. But the most attractive thing about the movie is that it shows nudity very bravely. Lots of movies in this genre show latex clothing, ropes and other devices/objects and think that they are very sexy. No, they aren't. It is the various stages of nudity which make these films special and Club mixes the torture scenes with the nudity on a high level. Our heroine, the shy new student shows herself sans clothes too - another plus. Lots of movies make the mistake showing only the extras in nude scenes but not the main protagonist. Overall a very brave movie (although the story is quite stupid but who cares), worth buying the uncut dvd/bluray from Shamrock.
Unsane (2018)
Overrated junk from an overrated director
Unsane is a terribly overrated movie from one of the most overrated directors of movie history. Unsane is basically a rip-off of "The Fifth Floor" (1978) which was also a B-movie but while Floor did not want to be more than a B-movie (and at least that movie had some nudity that a B-movie should have), Unsane takes itself seriously and mixes serious topics like stalking and hospital insurance politics together with no purpose at all. The ending is predictable, camera work is amateurish and as soon as the film switches to the horror cliches it becomes laughably bad. The best thing there is Matt Damon, he has 2 minutes screen time but because of his appearance we Will immediately remember how good "Saving Private Ryan" was from an era when Hollywood still could produce some great movies and not junk like Unsane.
Love & Other Drugs (2010)
At last we have a US romantic/sex comedy-drama with some brave female nudity
"Love..." starts extremely well and keeps its level until - as usual - the second act. In the first half the characters shine and are really interesting. And what makes this first half much better than the other 1500 American sex/relationship comedies is that it shows what today's relationships mostly about in the beginning: sex and nudity. Maybe it is because we have Edward Zwick, from the older generation of Hollywood as the director and he did not shy away already in 1986 to show his female lead, Demi Moore fully naked. Now we have Anne Hathaway and some very well made nude scenes from her too. Sadly in the second half it ends, it is like in America young people have sex only at the beginning of a relationship. The second half gives us the usual amount of melodrama and the ending is for the 235 655th time the "girl is angry with boy, runs away but boy gets after her and they are happy again" scenario. Or maybe it was the 311 456th ending like that, I did not count exactly. To sum up, there are two great performances, some refreshing female nudity without the usual body double boredom (and not from some underpaid extra in the cast but from the lead) and a predictable last 20 minutes. Even so "Love..." is much better than all the other US sex comedies in this century where mostly prudishness and censorship rule.
Girl Friday (2020)
Starts promising but fatal and suprising flaws sink it
This porn movie starts quite good with beautiful Lena Anderson looking for a job. She gets it then Anderson has two extended lesbian sex scenes, first with a girlfriend and after that with her domina-like boss. The big problem with the movie is the fact that Anderson's beauty is not fully shown through 110 minutes, we don't get a view of her butt which is a fatal mistake in a porn movie. Maybe Anderson wrote this into her contract? And also the final sex scene - which lasts about 20-25 minutes - fails, because there is hardly enough movement, the two girls just lie on the bed, the boss on top, and they never move from that position, which makes the whole scene laughable. Even the camera does not move here anymore, did the crew members go out for a coffee or a cigarette? No idea. With beautiful Anderson (who also can act) this could have been great but these ridiculous mistakes turn it into a bomb.
Absolute Power (1997)
Absolute Power has the most professional killer in movie history
If you are a killer with great shooting ability and you have the task of killing a thief's daughter (because she may know that the president of the United States killed somebody) you don't start to push her car towards the abyss. You simply wait until she shows up anywhere in the street or in her garden etc and then you shoot her with your super expensive shotgun (seen in a previous sequence). Or you make her stop and get out of her car and shoot her in the head from close range. You don't push her car but if yes you go down to the wounded person and finish the job. You don't let her to be taken to the hospital because you have to follow her and disguise yourself as a doctor, find her bed and use a poisonous needle not to make big noise. But - as we see in this movie - if a killer (who is also the bodyguard of the president) is such an idiot Mr. Eastwood will come and kill him with an even bigger needle. And of course there are no policemen guarding the woman beside her bed although she is the daughter of the main suspect. This is a logical world we live in.
