The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Not even remotely enough
There are no spoiler in this review for anyone who has watched the original trilogy, if you didn't watch it I'd reccomend you to do it now.
The beginning of the movie is good, there are a few cracks on the surface but it tries and kind of succeeds in remaining coherent with the original material with a few nice extra spins.
Sadly it's all down from there, the rest of the movie is extremely rushed in multiple ways:
The script develops poorly, either the writers had no idea how to continue or they didn't enough time to write something coherent; all the brialliancy of the original is gone and this movie ends up being on the same level of an average sci-fi blockbuster.
The sequences of the movie were extremely rushed, the poor ideas of the script could have performed a little better if they had enough time to develop but they didn't, the characters constantly run from a place to the next one after brief and superficial conversations.
The Nietzsche ubermensch who was Neo, the only anomaly who was able to bend the fake world of the machines at his will, is now a superhero with a couple of superpowers which has to rely on the "power of love".
Regarding the CGI, well, it's good as expected but some effects were genuinely better and more visually appealing in the original trilogy which is now 20 years old and this is something that shouldn't happen.
The final result is overall disappointing, the Matrix franchise would have been better without this in my opinion and I'm saying this as a fan of the original trilogy.
El hoyo (2019)
A different kind of movie
If you are the kind of person that gets aggressive when your favourite economic system is questioned this is not a movie for you.
If you think that every movie should make you feel good about yourself this is not a movie for you.
If you think that a movie director shouldn't film gore scenes because you find them gross this is not a movie for you.
If you're not in the previous groups you'll definitely enjoy this movie, it's an interesting reflection on the human nature with really good premises and concepts.
The movie has various references but it's definitely not going to spoonfeed you, the ending is open to a few different interpretations -maybe too many for my taste- but it fits.
I'd like to add more but I don't really want to spoil anything.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Disappointing
This has been a long journey.
GOT has been one of my favourite series for years and now the only thing left is disappointment, not because I wanted it to end differently but because the writers disrespected their fanbase.
A superb plot was what made GOT different from the other fantasy shows and nothing of that is left in this finale.
Is there anything good? Yes, good visual effects and some scenes were fairly directed but these factors have a very little weight if compared to the writing which is the thing I personally care more when I'm watching a TV show or a movie.
This final episode definitely didn't have a good writing, this is probably one of the worst episodes of the entire series and this is unacceptable for a finale.
I don't understand why many reviewers are rating this 10 because they think this episode doesn't deserve a 4,5, why not? 6 is the lowest positive rating possible, 5 is a negative rating close to the sufficiency, this episode was not even close to the sufficiency
Voldemort: Origins of the Heir (2018)
It depends
I think anyone trying to rate this fan movie has to face a big question: should I consider the budget?
If the answer is yes, these guys only had a really small amount of money (around 15000 euro) so this is a good if not a great result, otherwise this is not a good movie and it can't be compared with a professional movie.
Another important problem is the plot, it's not that bad but it's quite trivial and the behavior of the characters -one in particular- is not realistic, he/she had many better ways to achieve the same result faster, it was probably written in that way just to impress the viewer.
There are also a few things that don't go well with the canon material but they genuinely tried to stay as canon as possible, The Cursed Child was worse on that aspect.
I suggest HP fans to watch it, there are also nice dialogues and scenes and overall it's a good and enjoyable effort.
