E.M.P.: 333 Days (2018)
The Reviewer "Sajprat" really is a prat
Just finished watching this for free on YouTube.
It was definitely low budget, and the young female lead was the only decent actor. What the hell do these 1-star reviewers want for free??? Yes it was made by a family. Yes they are probably preppers- and that's ok.
The reviewer here (name in the title of my review) thinks an EMP is garbage science. Sorry honey but no. Talk to an engineer if you want to know what an E1 blast would do to civilian infrastructure. It would devastate the area for weeks or months- that's a kind estimate- and only if we had the replacement parts to get right onto fixing it, which we don't.
It's always wise to be prepared, at least with extra non perishable food, first aid kits and such. And a few pew-pews won't hurt either, because trust me, most people are too short sighted to even keep their phones charged, and when people get hungry they get crazy.
Anyway- for me the movie was very tame and just an introduction into what might happen after an EMP blast. But it's a pretty well-done film for the budget, and well thought out.
The reality of an actual EMP would be much worse.
Spiderhead (2022)
5.4??? Trolls galore it seems.
Can't believe the rating on this highly entertaining film with a good message. Yes, messages are not subtle and don't leave much to imagination but that isn't really the point. It's sort of brain candy.
I wouldn't consider this to be dystopian- more like a drama thriller with a few funny bits set in the somewhat near future. (Actually, pretty sure Hollyweird is letting us in on a bit of what really happens in our military industrial complex- thinking we're too brain dead to pick up on it.)
The chemistry between all the characters is awesome and although most back stories aren't too deep, the ones that matter are great.
There's a short monologue about self forgiveness at the end that touched me deeply.
I gave it a 10 to offset the troll reviews. In reality I'd say 7-8 but a 5.4 rating for this is beyond ridiculous.
After Earth (2013)
Honestly people it's not THAT bad.
As a lover of space science fiction I thought this was decent. A lot better than the score it has.
Ok so Jaden isn't a great actor but he did fine in my opinion. This isn't high drama folks. It's a light scifi. All the people annoyed at the acting haven't seemed to mind all the terrible acting in the MCU.
Will was emotionless in the film because that was his character. That I have to explain that is revealing of how clueless people are about acting motivation.
The film is beautifully shot and the creatures are realistic. The spacecraft and scenes shot in space itself were great. The planet they relocated to (forgot the name) was cool looking and their habitats made me wish we had cool buildings like that here on earth.
I would have given this a 6 but made it 8 to offset all the low scores for people who don't understand light scifi. Definitely recommend for people who love action science fiction.
Madres (2021)
Yay for politics! (Not really)
I don't mind a good historical fiction, and horror can mix well with some of these types of stories, but this ain't it.
It started out well enough with some seemingly supernatural elements and the two main actors are ok even though the relationship between them as a married couple felt somewhat forced.
It eventually lost its way and morphed into some kind of boring history about reproductive mistreatment of immigrants in the 70's. (Thats a worthwhile story, but this isn't a documentary.)
I would still have given it a decent 5 or 6 but then they tacked on Rachel Madcow at the end and that completely ruined any credibility the movie had.
Watch at your own risk lol & thanks for reading this review.
Leigh.
Lake Mungo (2008)
What am I missing folks?
I don't really understand the great reviews and the scoring on this one. It was really more like a boring version of a ghost documentary. No "frightening and intense scenes" at all; no blood or gore, which I don't really care about, but it wasn't the least bit frightening. I truly love ghost stories and documentaries but this was just a stinker. It literally put me to sleep last night so I tried to give it another chance tonight and it was a huge waste of time. No explanation of why or how she died; no closure on her molesters; just tired interviews and a pretty useless psychic who did virtually nothing. Give this a miss. Watch the Haunting of Hill House if you want a scary ghost film.
Relic (2020)
People are SO DUMB
I'm only reviewing this movie because people didn't understand it was A METAPHOR and didn't get the ending, therefore they gave it a 1. Seriously folks, if you can't grasp from the beginning that this was a film about the loss of self due to dementia and loss of the person you know & love then I have no idea what to tell you. Go watch Halloween or a Conjuring movie because you're obviously too low-IQ for this one. I thought it was rather good. There wasn't anything obscure about it; they pretty much got their point across in a creative, dark, and incredibly sad way. I have not had a family member with dementia/ Alzheimer's and I understood it perfectly. Yes, even the ending. Actors were incredible, I didn't think the lighting was bad at all (maybe some need to turn their brightness off auto) and the story was fresh and gripping. I won't spoil the end in case there is intelligent life reading the reviews.
You Should Have Left (2020)
The armchair reviewers are ignorant.
Ok this is not a movie that's going to spoon feed blood, guts, and gore to the dumb masses. It's really a psychological thriller with some horror elements- the best kind imo. Other reviewers obviously didn't understand the subtle psychological horror that comes from living a lie, and especially lying to those who love you unconditionally. The symbolism is pretty well done, once you understand what's going on- which you don't until the last 10-15 minutes. All the actors were great. The dialogue was believable. Make of that what you will, but don't expect the pablum of amazing CGI and nonstop action.
Life to AfterLife: I Died, Now What (2019)
If you like fraud mediums you'll love this
Ugh such insipid idiocy. "Documentary" as a descriptor is purely clickbait. Just a lot of self styled "mediums" talking about "the other side" and comparing suicide with cutting school. Utter nonsense. Don't get me wrong- I believe in an afterlife. I just disagree that these folks know anything about it. And it's boring. I watched it just so I could do this review but fell asleep twice. I'd say give it a miss if you value your brain cells.
