Apollo 13 (1995)
How are people so smart?
I spent the entire movie wondering how the heck all of these guys were talking so smart and doing all of this smart stuff with numbers. I got lost with them talking about angles and amps. Very confusing and very annoying! Also, why even bother with all that boring stuff anyway? Just go to a rest stop and fill up the fuel and put the pedal to the metal and they're back on earth in no time at all. If they were really smart they would have just jumped out of the ship and parachuted back to earth like that guy did that one time when he drank a bunch of Red Bull. Surely they had energy drinks back in the 50s. Overall I'm impressed that they lived to tell the tale but annoyed because I never liked math.
The Exorcist (1973)
I thought I was possessed once
This movie reminded me of the time I thought I was possessed by a demon this one time. It turned out to be just really bad indigestion, and just like the movie I fell down some stairs and I was cured. God works in mysterious ways.
Death Valley (2021)
Very interesting that their aspiration was to buy a house in Kingston
That made me laugh. Maybe they should move to the neighbourhood I grew up in. It's pretty nice. There are a few nice schools nearby. It's quite safe. It's close to downtown. It's right on Lake Ontario. There are worse places to live.
Anyway, overall a pretty enjoyable monster movie.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Good movie, but I have a real beef with Stephen King with this one..
I liked the movie and everything, but I'm a bit disappointed Pennywise didn't make an appearance seeing how this was by Stephen King, but I'll let it slide (this time).
Don't Breathe (2016)
I tried watching it with my eyes closed to get the full experience
And I fell asleep and had a nightmare about the blind guy so this definitely qualifies as a horror movie.
Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
I thought my DVD was broken
The movie kept repeating itself so I made a formal complaint to the guy at the video store where I bought the movie from and he revoked my membership.
Very unfair, but it turns out it was part of the plot? I still don't understand even after 7 years. Tom Cruise can you please get in touch with me and explain this movie to me? 8/10 because of the explosions.
Thanks.
Bird Box (2018)
It only took me 3 viewings to understand the title of the film
I genuinely enjoyed every moment Sandra Bullock berated Boy and Girl as I am deathly afraid of children. However, this movie is basically The Happening but with blindfolds.
The Terminator (1984)
A treatise on the economic struggles of California in the early 2000s
It was interesting upon viewing this movie for the 5th time while keeping in mind the struggles that California was going through when Arnold first took office. I saw Sarah Connor as a Gray Davis figure, one who was unfairly hunted down by powerful enemies, for reasons out of her control. If you recall Gray Davis was the very unpopular governor of California during the electricity crisis in 2000 and 2001. He was unfairly blamed for the rolling blackouts in the state, when in fact Enron was to blame because they had a stranglehold on the power plants and were shutting them down, creating excess demand while diminishing the supply.
The Terminator is Enron, a seemingly unstoppable force hellbent on the destruction of its enemies. Like Enron, The Terminator does not play by the rules; it does anything it can to complete its objective.
But the powerful always fall. Enron flew too close to the sun and disintegrated when they could not keep up the facade any longer. The Terminator was destroyed when Sarah Connor lured him into a mechanical press. Although both Enron and The Terminator was defeated, the threat they posed still lingers. Corporate greed is still prevalent, as evidenced by the 2008 financial crisis. Banks and other financial institutions laid waste to the global economy, without sympathy for those whose lives they destroyed. The Terminator is a product of a future, possibly created by another, much more severe financial crisis that is looming over us. Terminators lay waste to everything, destroying the world and making it practically uninhabitable. If we do not learn from our mistakes, and continue to allow corporate greed to permeate throughout our society, big banks and the financial wizards of Wall Street will destroy this society without a second thought. Short-term profits always win out, without any regard for long-term sustainability.
