Tom and Jerry (2021)
It is much better than people are giving it credit for
Probably not 9 stars. But seen as everyone is being so cruel. I will be extra nice. How else would you take a 10 minute cartoon from my childhood and bring it into a modern day hour and a half film. Well what the did here was just that. They kept all of the great gimmicks I remember, much the same slapstick humour, they look and act the same. The nostalgia feeling was great. Me and my girlfriend who is much a nuisance like Jerry mouse, were very much entertained, and we turn most trash off pretty quickly. The supporting actors were funny. There were many funny parts all moving around what would be a somewhat real life event, albeit greatly exaggerated to fit in with the daft nature that is the Tom and Jerry show. I really don't know what half the reviewers wanted to see, apparently this wasn't it. But it was good enough for me. Maybe they can send their suggestions in for the next film. Don't be put off from watching.
The Personal History of David Copperfield (2019)
Overall a good film - ignore the negative reviews
The film indeed has unusual casting, from the sense of black mother's bearing white children for example, but I feel that this is done as an example of "what if picking an actor that can best represent a character based on their mannerisms and acting skills" rather than best racial fit. Of course things were different in the late 19th Century, people of colour did not hold such positions. This film challenges us to look past such things and I feel that it works.
The film itself is good if you can look past the obvious diversions from reality, after all it is a book and a movie and can be interpreted as anyone wishes, the plot is, well a rags to riches and that of hardship faced by the lower classes, with all focus on that of the class system rather than that of race. This again works for showing what maybe the biggest inequality facing modern society. There is some treachery and some laughs. Their are interesting uses of the projection of images as characters discuss prior events that lead them to be where they are and it is visually pleasing. The acting is strong throughout, with a great leading cast of actors / actress.
Although I did find the film to be long, I wasn't as bored as lost as I have been watching a film of that length in the past. You can imagine how I am in a three hour film, I have to take a four hour break.
All in all, it's worth the watch and I feel that the negative reviews focus a lot more on the casting and maybe a lack of understanding in this decision. I don't know why it was cast as such, I am merely speculating, I rarely ever leave a written review, but for some reason felt that it was my time to chip in. Grab some crisps, dip and a drink and give it a watch.
Black and Blue (2019)
A thrilling and immersive watch
I really enjoyed this film, i don't understand the poor reviews. It accomplishes what many films fail to do, and that is to entertain. An intense and thrilling watch from start to finish. Worth your time!
Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
HOME STALLONE
Not a bad film, the best bit for me is towards the end where we see John Rambo imitate Kevin McCallister in a explosive and bloody version of Home Alone.
Hex (2018)
Awful
I watched it as it had a score of 8.0 on IMDB (by whom i am very unsure), the score is rapidly declining I think as those suckered into watching it realise what a horrible mistake they have made. Nothing stands out to reflect on aside from the ending, which was alright, not so much a twist but the only part of the film that felt like it had some thought put into it, the fact that the film did end was also a bonus and a relief.
Designated Survivor (2016)
I've never really known why I watch this show
The idea was great, mass terror attack wipes out all politicians and the country has to rebuild. But then it turns into some immensely cheesy moral compass preaching drivel. Now that being said, there's something that makes me come back, but now were onto season 3 and the show has become like that small kid who swears every other word to be popular and cool. I've given it 3 stars for successfully helping me waste my life for the 3000 or so hours in the first 2 seasons.
