War Room (2015)
A great uplifting movie...
"War Room" is the latest film from Alex and Stephen Kendrick, who also directed Flywheel, Facing The Giants, Fireproof and Courageous, and it carries their signature touches. The film is an uplifting spiritual drama but is also peppered with some truly humorous, laugh-out-loud moments. It is about a husband (T.C. Stallings) and a wife (Priscilla Shirer) who aren't exactly where they want to be in their marriage and are drifting apart. It isn't until the wife meets an elderly woman, Miss Clara, that things start to take a turn for the better.
The Kendrick brothers have truly outdone themselves, as they do with each preceding film. They just keep getting better and better.
In 2006, Facing The Giants opened to $1.3 million and ended at $10 million.
In 2008, Fireproof opened to $6.8 million and ended at $33.4 million (and was also the top grossing independent movie of the year).
In 2011, Courageous opened to $9.1 million and ended at $34.5 million.
As of today, War Room opened to $11.3 million opening weekend and grossed another $13.3 million over the 4-day Labor Day weekend, where it actually came in as the #1 movie at the box office. All of this has brought the film's total to $28.7 million through 11 days of release. By next weekend, it will become the highest grossing Kendrick's brothers film.
The Kendrick Brothers are doing something right. Go see this film.
Faith of Our Fathers (2015)
A film safe for the whole family...
"Faith of our Fathers" is the latest film from Pure Flix (the studio behind "God's Not Dead" and "Do You Believe?) with a message. The story starts off with John Paul George (Kevin Downes) wanting to know more about his father, who died in Vietnam. He finds some letters in the garage about a man named Eddie Adams. He eventually comes face-to-face with Eddie's son, Wayne (David A.R. White). What follows is a road trip where the two men eventually bond and become brothers. Amidst the men's trip, the film also flashes back to the two men's fathers in Vietnam.
There's a little violence during the war-time scenes, but nothing too graphic. There's also no language and no sensual scenes. With this in mind, it's a perfect film to watch with your family. Highly recommended.

Do You Believe? (2015)
A thought-provoking faith-based film...
"Do You Believe?" is centered around the lives of 12 people and the different challenges that they face in their lives. These 12 include a homeless mother (Mira Sorvino) and her precocious daughter (an excellent Makenzie Moss), a dying ex-con (Brian Bosworth), an ER doctor (Sean Astin) and his lawyer wife (Andrea Logan White), an elderly couple (Lee Majors and Cybill Shepherd) dealing with the loss of the daughter, a suicidal young woman (Alexa PenaVega), a recently deployed soldier (Joseph Julian Soria), a pastor (Ted McGinley), an EMT (Liam Matthews), a homeless pregnant mother (Madison Pettis) and a young man, Pretty Boy (Shwayze), who has a change-of-heart about how he's living his life.
It all starts when the pastor, Matthew, encounters a street preacher (Delroy Lindo). The preacher asks Matthew if he believes in the Cross of Christ and then precedes to risk his life for his faith when he confronts a group of thugs, including Pretty Boy, and is threatened by Pretty Boy's brother Kriminal with a gun. When Matthew sees the preacher continue to stand up for his faith, even when he's threatened with death, he begins to wonder if he's doing enough. This inspires Matthew to challenge the members of his congregation (which includes half of the characters listed above) to put their faith into action.
Examples include the ex-con, Joe, taking in the homeless mother and child when the local shelter is closed, the EMT sharing his faith with a dying man, Pretty Boy deciding to change his criminal ways, the pastor and his wife taking in the homeless, pregnant young woman, and more.
Eventually, most of the characters come together in a heart-pounding climatic sequence set on a bridge (which is, without a doubt, worth the price of admission alone).
"Do You Believe?" is an inspiring film about putting your beliefs into action. Anyone can say they believe in something, but do their actions back up what they believe in. Sure, this film might stretch the imagination a couple times, but what film doesn't. This film is a thought-provoking look at the lives of others and the power of faith, of hope, and of love.
With strong performances, an unpredictable plot. an intense ending, and is safe to watch with your family, "Do You Believe?" is HIGHLY recommended.
Left Behind (2014)
A suspenseful and thrilling apocalyptic film...
"Left Behind" is everything you'd want in a film. It has moments of action, is incredibly intense, has some great acting and even a handful of light comedic scenes. Nicolas Cage gives a great performance in the film and reminds us of how he won the Oscar for Best Actor back in 1996. Cage brings a element to a film that makes it stand above the rest and, though some of his recent movies haven't been great, he brings a lot to any movie that he's in. The other actors in the film are fine in their roles.
Powerful, thrilling, and featuring a great Nicolas Cage performance, "Left Behind" is a must-see. Highly recommended.
