Ambush (2023)
Save yourself the trouble
Really really bad. I know actors need to work, but Aaron Eckhart must be regretting having his name associated with this dross. Battle Los Angeles it most definitely is not!
Quite a good plot but destroyed through terrible dialogue, ridiculous characters and stupid scenarios...such as using a flame thrower whilst inside a narrow tunnel (Alien lol)...no spoiler but I fell off my seat laughing when I saw how that turned out.
The tunnel scenes take up the majority of this movie and that just adds to the overall pain being experienced by the viewer.
Don't waste your time on this rubbish - do something more satisfying and entertaining...like watching a tree grow.
Zeros and Ones (2021)
Incomprehensible Rubbish
I can't believe audiences can be treated with such disdain. This is a jumble of dark, often out of focus, images roughly sewn together in a failed effort to provide some sort of narrative. Maybe Ethan Hawke saw this as simply a means to turn a cheap buck? I don't know, but whatever his motivation was this particular effort is a total waste of time for the audience who quite reasonably could have expected much much more.
Was there a plot? Maybe. But it's lost in the dark and confusing cinematography which, more often than not, feels like it's been filmed on an iPhone.
Quite possibly the worst movie I have ever seen. Do yourself a favour - avoid it.
Alien Siege (2018)
Awesomely Bad
I never imagined that I'd ever see a movie with worse special effects than Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, but now I have.
Complementing the kindergarten FX were the most inane script and ham-fisted acting performances possible.
I gave it 5 stars for the F350 truck, very nice, and 5 stars for the alien octopus - I laughed so hard I nearly put a rib out.
Nothing else was worth a single star and watching this movie in its entirety was definitely not worth the 12 weeks I had to do in therapy to get over it.
These Final Hours (2013)
An air of inevitability
Blessed by outstanding performances by the two principle actors, These Final Hours is one of those movies that simply has to be seen. Although predictable in its sex, drugs and violence at times...it has a deep undercurrent of emotion and sadness that you will feel slowly rumbling inside you as the plot unfolds. Even the exterior cinematography is moody.
If you want an uplifting movie go watch Top Gun, this movie is not going to uplift you. There is no surprise ending here, you know how things are going to end and that air of inevitability permeates its entire length.
Nevertheless, it's a compelling piece of cinema that will leave you notably affected...for better or worse.
Last Man Down (2021)
Lots of Muscles
If you like scores of nameless faceless bad guys (dressed in black of course) getting shot then you'll probably love this movie.
The muscles were big, the scenery delightful, the fights gritty but the script and much of the delivery was so bad I expected Bruce Willis to make an appearance at any moment!
Daniel Stisen's character was wooden, brooding and mumbled a lot. On the other hand Olga Kent was a bright spot in an otherwise watchable but unsatisfying action movie experience.
