The Devil's Rejects (2005)
Awesome soundtrack BUT.................
Zombie is turning out to have the Scorsese/Tarantino knack of choosing the right songs for the right scene. This time out, Zombie decides to ditch any of his own music and instead favoring southern rock type songs. Joe Walsh, The Allman Brothers Band and Lynard Skynard provide perhaps some of the biggest rock anthems in this collection. As for the movie i enjoyed it more than i expected and noticed that zombie copied a lot from previous genres such as the spagetti westerns such as the good the bad and the ugly, i.e. the pause frame shot for transitions between movie sequences. But i do have a problem with the movie. I'm all for glorifying bad guys but the way this film ended with a over the top glorification of the killers was too much. It would have been great to see those b*****ds die at the hands of the sheriff, but some where along the line Mr. Zombie though the audience might have after seeing the movie gained sympathy for the gruesome threeseome. I'm afraid not. A very good film in my opinion let down by a very bad ending. I;d love to say for mr. zombie to stick at what he knows best at . i.e. music but with few directors out there at the moment taking risks and heading inn new directions, Mr.Zombie has my vote of confidence, for the time being.
Gonggongui jeog (2002)
One hell of a Korean masterpiece
OK for a starters my girlfriend hates subtitled films. One week i spent my paycheck buying all the tartan extreme collection. The best decision i have ever made. talk about value for money. From versus, to the bride with white hair, to the ramones and public enemy. The film has everything black hunour, comic scenes, a psycho killer, and one of the most unusual cops since briggs in lethal weapon, a pure loner who develops a conscience while the movie progresses. The movie trailer really made me want to watch this. As i said my girlfriend hates subtitles film but she loved this a must for all thriller and black humour fans. A little long at two hours but highly enjoyable.
