Cherry (2021)
If you're a veteran, you're going to be mad
Why it's such a rare thing for a producer to hire someone who's been in the military to keep things authentic looking, I don't know. It's such a simple thing to do to make sure your movie doesn't completely lose all credibility, but very few military themed movies take that necessary step... unfortunately. The guy is supposed to be a PFC during his deployment, but in the ceremony when he gets home he's wearing PV2 rank, which is a rank lower, but they're calling him a Specialist, which is a rank higher than PFC... totally confusing since anyone familiar with rank thinks the guy has been demoted for something at first. That's just one example of many. For a combat veteran, this movie was a total cringe fest the entire time.
The Twilight Zone (2019)
Nobody's buying it
Every story is about race. Every story has a theme about the terrible white man. Coming from a mixed family, this show is a disgrace. It only serves to further divide people by playing on the most obvious cliches over and over again. Advice? Stop injecting politics into TV, people want to watch to escape, not see stereotypes emphasized and regurgitated. Not anywhere near the original series' direction or quality.
Once Upon a Time in Venice (2017)
Great movie considering the crap coming out lately
The other reviewer gave a horrible score calling it "average," but compared to all the other garbage coming out lately it is a gem. I can't remember the last movie that kept me wondering what's going to happen next. Also, being a surfer bum from S. Cali, the scenery and personas of the "locals" was nostalgic and spot on. If I wasn't laughing, I was at least grinning throughout the movie. Great casting with a surprising number of (old) A-listers throughout. A breath of fresh air from the &^$@ coming out of Hollywood these days.
