Invasion (2021)
Half way through first season and I found out there was a second season, so I thought I'd better stop watching now!
Fortunately, Invasion started off great for me. I loved the mini little stories from around the world, in different people's lives, and how it was affecting them. It became a little slow and too much talking on each point, each character, and dragged it out. I became distracted and started to look on my phone as we all do.
After reading other people's reviews, I thought I might not continue this series as it's starting to drag too much and I'm becoming a little bored.
It's a shame, as I liked the scenes in Kabul, and I liked the scenes of how the bully didn't win!
But for me it just didn't grasp me like other series such as Silo.
Silo (2023)
CAPTIVATING!
Silo, a very well thought through Apple TV series that had me hooked on every episode.
The music:
Some sections of the episodes, especially when Juliette was walking up the stairs, taken by Judicial, reminded me of the beat and music from Oddworld Soulstorm (PS5 Game). Another reason why I love this game AND Silo! Cool, weird, eerie beats that keep your heart racing for the next scene.
Episodes:
I loved how this series built a picture of what was happening in the Silo at an early stage, there wasn't any waffling on of the introduction to people's lives, it got straight into it which was great for a person like me who has a short attention span.
I was so excited to finally find out what was outside. Finally that scene came, my heart beat was rapid just at the thought of hoping Juliette would survive.
The Actors:
Every single one of them did an excellent job, 100% believable.
I cannot wait for season 2. Honestly, this was the best Tv series I've scene in a long time which had depth and substance, adventure, and taunting my heart strings to wanting to know what happened next.
Well done.
Konferensen (2023)
Irritating nuisance sounds from the immature conference members drove me nuts
I felt the Conference movie was very B grade. I felt there was a lot of unnecessary blabber throughout the whole film leading up to the killer starting to do his/her killing. Small twists throughout the film, which was very known to me anyway without having to think too hard to figure out what was going on.
It was very disappointing to know that the plot was very simple, it's been done before in previous films, nothing exciting or enticing about it at all.
There was not much of an ending either, nor a shock to whom it the killer was.
Unfortunately I found it to be a waste of my time watching this movie.
Fair Play (2023)
Good intake of spousal jealousy
I gave this film a 8/10 because I could resonate with it.
I had an ex who was jealous and made similar remarks to that of Luke. A woman once complimented me for my looks and my partner then started an argument with me later in private arguing his case as to why he wasn't complimented, but I was.
A partner who truly loves you should be happy for you, not against you.
Luke: an overthinking, all in his head of infidelity, including jealousy of his partner is not a good combination. We could see in the latter scenes how the development of spousal abuse escalates.
It could start off small with words, manipulation, intimidation, gas lighting, guilt tripping, tit for that and point scoring, then the physical abuse commences, as we saw in the film.
At the end of the day, this film really provides an insight to those who may succumb to such physical and mental abuse, irrespective of gender, status, job, or age, that we should always stick up for ourselves, just like Emily did.
Saw X (2023)
The most Epic Saw Movie
10/10 Stars because Saw X depicts John's journey from finding out he only has 4 months to live, with the discovery of a new hope he would ensure during that period of time. Till now, us, the viewers were unknown of what had happened to John leading up to his death until this 2023 film - Saw X.
We can finally see what John did during those last days of his life, and I am so grateful to the Director and Producers for bringing out this film to reveal that.
After watching Saw X, it reveals that there will be a Saw 11 as the ending leaves us with an unknown ending of a game.
Dont walk out of the cinema too early either, as there's a surprise take after some credits - don't miss that one!
Sit tight, and let the games begin.
Noise (2023)
4 stars for the Freddy Prince Jnr Look Alike
I really wanted to love this movie!
The movie lost me when the floor started to move. I then gave it another chance, and lost me again when the evil ghost showed up in the baby room.
The movie could have been a really creepy, eerie thriller, however some of the scenes were just a tad silly. I understand "noises" start to irritate him, and there's something in the eyes, but just leave it as that... a bit of mystery keeps the viewer enticed to discover what's going on. Instead, I already have the knowledge that it must be ghosts or it's all in his head.
I liked the movie none the less, however I just feel it could have been better if it was simplified without the use of those odd scenes which I felt ruined it. Like they say, less is more.
No Escape (2023)
Vexing
Two girls run away escaping the reality of what they had done.
They come across a yacht, found some fun with a bunch of random party individuals who were also escaping their own issues.
The group, by chance, or maybe not by chance, come across a boat, and find something particularly of interest to all.
They all come to an agreement about their new findings and set sail to continue their journey of island hopping.
Their new found items start to cause issues amongst them all, ultimately destroying trust, and disconnecting friendships.
As the story progresses, they run into issues on land, and at sea.
The plot thickens as some individuals attempt to change their circumstance, by escaping. However, this becomes terrifying to some.
The situation turns nasty, and some people's lives become at risk.
Not all is who you think they are.
The Punisher (2017)
Bad Ass Brutal Fight Scenes
I thought it was bad ass and awesomely sick and kick ass!
I absolutely loved the brutal fight scenes.
Excellent detail, character choices, and music throughout the entire series.
I couldn't wait to watch the next episode to find out what happened next. I loved the raw toughness and courage of The Punisher. Every punch was for his family.
John Bernthal played the role of The Punisher perfectly. Loved his bad ass head sways he did, gestures and mannerisms. Suited the role to a T!
Costumes were sick. Loved the blood fist fight with Jigsaw... now that was cool! Especially how The Punisher created Jigsaw with the mirrored glass fight scene.
10/10.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
The Bay Harbour Butcher is Finally Dead
Seeing Harrison all grown up and back in Dexters life made me happy. Although it takes a bit for Harrison to trust his father again, they end up reconciling and creating a bond, like father, like son.
We need to remember Dexter is a manipulating liar. He still kills, just like the "bad guys" he kills, kills. Although their reasons for killing might be different, like Dexters through a "code", their existence remains the same, they kill. They're all killers.
Ironically, just like Lochards Exchange Principle: every contact leaves a trace. Every contact Dexter, forensic blood spatter analyst, every contact leaves a kill!
Dexter manipulates and destroys everyone he comes into contact with. Throughout the New Blood series, Dexter starts to destroy others people's lives just as he did in the original series. His sister, Deb, who is now in his thoughts, was right about everything. Dexter shouldn't continue to make friends, lovers and tell Harrison every secret and detail about what he does. It destroys everyone.
The New Blood series was exciting with a new Killer - Kurt. It was shocking to see all of his victims. Dexters dark passenger figures Kurt out and seeks to destroy him, with Harrison by his side. Dexter begins to teach the "code" to Harrison through his kill of Kurt.
Angela, Chief, of the Iron Lake police, figured Dexter out as being the Bay Harbour Butcher through the evidentiary findings of the Ketamine neck injections on previous and current victims of Dexter.
Angela gets into contact with Angel, currently Captain, former Sergeant, Miami Metro Police, who is shocked by her reveal of Dexter being alive. It appears they will collaborate. However, due to the ending of the last episode I don't believe that story will continue.
Dexter is caught by Angela and is placed into custody and questioned. Dexter and Harrison have a plan to move to L. A and start a new life. Dexter escapes by killing an innocent - Coach Logan, which Harrison doesn't like as it didn't meet the new code he's just been taught by Dexter. He sees Dexters manipulating side, and selfish ways of his need to kill.
Harrison decides to shoot Dexter in the heart. Dexter feels this is the most he's ever felt loved before, due to Harrison caring enough to kill him and alleviate him of his painful life. Angela arrives at the scene after Dexter has been shot. Dexter dies by the hand of his own son.
Angela gives money to Harrison to flee. However, she doesn't realise that Harrison is the new Dexter Morgan.
Say goodbye to any new series of Dexter. Perhaps a new series: Harrison Morgan? It's sad it's finally come to an end.
The series could continue. A good story line could be that Harrison commences his blood trail just as Dexter did. Angel and Angela collaborate to investigate the Bay Harbour Butcher and identifies it was Dexter. Harrison becomes a forensic analyst and begins the new series - Harry.
Dexter (2006)
Killer Series!
Dexter finally brought a tear to my eye in the final episode of the final season. I was torn with emotion when Deb got shot, as I thought she was going to be ok until the shocking announcement of her death. Whilst watching Dexter, without any tears in his eyes, set Deb free in the stormy ocean, I cried like a baby. I hadn't cried throughout the entire series until now because I knew Dexter had a rough upbringing and I felt empathy for him, but to see his great loss such as losing Deb, the one person he truly loved gone, reiterated the immense loss in Dexters life, and why he is the way he is. Truly sad.
Dexter is a brilliant tv series showcasing the life of a boy brought into a world of pain and suffering, who became accustomed to his world, and dealt with it the only way he knew best. Self survival.
It was inevitable that those all around him would soon perish, however Dexter was always able to continue to pursue his desires and survive, as taught by his father and psychiatrist.
I felt pain and sadness for Dexter, however I also felt that his need for killing was still wrong and shouldn't be occurring. Dexters "code" made his killing appear to be acceptable, and glamorised, even by Deb herself.
If Dexter didn't kill in the first instance, no matter the "code", or reason, those who passed away not due to his hand, wouldn't have ever died.
I am looking forward to watching Dexter New Blood to find out what Dexter is up to now, and what happened to Hannah and his son Harrison.
Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)
I loved it and this is why...
I have always been a fan of Angelina Jolie, from her bad ass Lara Croft Tomb Raider character to her real life down to earth, classy and honourable life as a mother and ambassador for UNHCR.
I loved seeing her bass ass, unpredictable, free spirited character again, just like she was in Tomb Raider which brought me great joy! I enjoyed the fire brigade staff joking around with each other too.
Hannah was on point with her outfits for this film also. I always love her style - boots, with a military style belt, neutral colour combination and that eye catching jacket!
I also loved the acting of Aiden Gillen - the bad ass hitman. I thought he suited the character well and played it firmly.
Huge credit to Fin Little (Buddy). I thought you did a very good job! And you will go very far in your acting career. Well done.
I liked it that the story line was more about the actual connection of Hannah recovering from her past nightmare and connecting with Buddy, a now recent orphan. How the two found each other inevitably helping each other.
I liked the small attention to detail in the fight scenes, the military action, quality of the music, and the stunning scenery.
I think it was a well put together film. Well done to the Director - Taylor Sheridan.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
Thriller and Suspense
I love the suspense, thriller and investigative side to this series. The unknown of did someone kill the woman in the window? Did that woman self inflicted to trick her? Did she even exist at all?
Just like in the first Woman In The Window - I have to say I cringed at the Police and their bias towards her complaint. It really annoyed me to watch them do that.
Keep watching to see what happens :)
The Silent Sea (2021)
If you like your space movies you'll love this!
What on earth (well the moon) is a Silent Sea have to do with Space?
The headline got me intrigued!
In a nutshell:
Upon learning that the earth was losing all water, mankind had to return to the moon whereby man had previously tried to create water to bring back to the earth.
Instead, they found a young girl who had been cloned over and over again for mankind's research to see if the water they were recreating would work on humans.
In short, the water turned the girl into a fish looking thing with gill's. However, when the water they created touched any normal human, it would drown them internally.
Fast forward, the girl bit one of the astronauts hands who came back to retrieve the water, and through this, it showed humans that her DNA was the saviour to their failure (of the intake of the created water drowning the humans).
Hope you're with me. So literally if you get some of the fish gill looking girls' DNA, you can then consume the man made created water, and will not drown internally and die from it. Inevitably, saving the earth from mankind dying of not having water. :D
Well, that's how I perceived it!
I found the music to be very good! Calming and serene. It matched the epic scenes and moments throughout the series. Even though this was dubbed in English, I still was able to follow on with ease.
I actually thought it was a great series and I've come to enjoy watching these actors! From other Netflix series that have been aired.
Imawa no Kuni no Arisu (2020)
Squid Game and Dark City Combo
Alice in Borderland
Season 1
Three men who all have a mediocre life to it suddenly morphing into a nightmare of games...
Three young men who are fiends are finding their way in life, one going nowhere, one bored with their job and and who just lost their job whom all are still trying to find the fun in life together. When they're together, they forget their problems.
Suddenly their lives change when the lights go out and it's quiet. New technology is broken, with no one in sight, what is happening!?
Living in a dark city, with three days apart to play the next game, fighting for the chance of freedom and safety, they must work as a team in order to survive each game. If you don't pass the game, you die. If you fail during the game you die.
Will they turn on each other or work together to survive...
Escape the dark city and end the games, or forever play and try to continuously survive like a nightmare of ground hog day over and over again.
Who is the creator of the game?
FOUND - a room in the railway station with cameras and computers, with a bunch of random people watching on the games of the death and survival of those playing. Once thinking they were the game masters - WRONG. They were also pawns used in this game. A woman suddenly appears on the computer screens and is dictating the final games. Who is she? Another pawn?
So many questions!
? I believe Chishiya (the blonde male) has been relatively calm throughout the entire game... does he have something to do with it?
? Is this another Dark City type film where the human population have been taken from the world to another fake world?
? The biggest question is where are the lasers coming from and who is controlling them as they're coming from the sky. This is why I believe it is a fake world. Unless there are satellite type objects in the sky being controlled by computers on the ground.
? Are they aliens controlling this new world?
? Is it Arisu's father/brother teaching him a lesson to do something in his life?
The FINALS -
A deck of cards were used to depict every game's level of intensity from easy to hard and also the genre - emotional. All numbered cards are played, with the death of most players under its belt, the final players will play the remaining face cards - who will survive the final games?
...Season 2 to hopefully reveal.
Clickbait (2021)
What a Twist you poor fella!
Talk about click bait or cat fishing!
First you think it was the wife that killed him, then you think it was the guy she had an affair with, then you think the brother of the girl did it, then you think it was him that did it himself!
But NOOO all that time, the freaky old lady who was lonely at home had to be mean to a girl she was cat fishing online to tell her to kill herself, so then she did, and then she got found out in the end.
Note to self, do not cat fish. Note to everyone, do not cat fish.
This series depicted that cat fishing can seriously ruin lives. Just don't do it.
The ending of the series was good I felt that it explained why and how. I felt complete.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Captured me from Red Light Green Light
Squid vs Saw
Squid Game was dark, weird and I wanted more!
The games reminded me of the Saw movies - live or die, make your choice... or in this case; play properly or die, make your choice.
Most games were exciting, except for the marble game. I found that a little bit long and the players waffled on a bit with their personal stories. (I fast forwarded those parts).
Bring on more games, less waffling on, and more strategic twists rather than the in depth story lines of the players involved.
If you're bringing out a season 2, I'd love to see intense games that go for longer.
Maid (2021)
Rich and Poor and the One Caught in the Middle
The Maid (2021) Showcases an emotional in depth insight of the good and bad days of the life of a daughter named Alex.
The daughter (Alex):
Her eyes widened, and her mind was strong -
At the beginning as the viewer I perceived Alex as not realising what was happening to her within the home life she was living. The unknown meaning of what domestic violence was and meant, revealed to me that she thought she was living a normal life, somewhat. Then one night she decided to take her daughter and escape that life. In her heart she must have realised she deserved a "better life", but unknowingly knew it was the cause of emotional/mental domestic violence from Sean that was causing her not to want to be there.
As the viewer I could see her point. "This wasn't happening to me, I don't deserve special housing over another whom may have been physically abused... I'm fine, I'm ok, I don't need it. I can get on". Her mind was strong, but she felt she didn't deserve things.
Alex was humble, giving and strong minded. She faced fears of driving back to see Sean time after time. As the viewer, I would have been too afraid to go back to see a controlling abusive ex-partner. Especially after I had just taken his daughter and ran away from him, and due to his trailer being located in the middle of the woods!
Alex had looked after her mother since she was six years of age, who was very hard to care for, mentally. Alex was a very mentally strong individual due to this. She had to grow up fast.
Time after time after time after time... Alex was up, Alex was down. Alex got a nice place to live, then those around her destroyed that yet again, and then it was ripped away from her again. Then she was up, and then she was down. Talk about being kicked in the guts over and over. Then she gained amazing jobs, and places to live, then again it was taken from her. An incredible emotional roller coaster continuously for Alex, my heart cried for this poor woman. This happens in life sometimes, but this wasn't a stable life.
Real emotional intense numbness -
The one time I really saw Alex open up and realise the emotional abuse was when she went back to Sean's the second time. Alex felt trapped and over empowered by Sean. She was captive by her own thoughts, feeling trapped inside his trailer she so desperately wanted out of. Looking up at the ceiling and realising "this isn't the life for me". I felt sad for her, I cried for her.
As Alex sunk into the lounge chair at Sean's, watching her body become numb, feeling like she was stupid for going back to Sean and realising she had made that choice her self really hit her emotionally.
Alex sunk from the chair into a Well laying on the floor of that Well in a fetal position.
Through those scenes her pain was evident. Her body was shutting down, her mind was numb, however she was always strong minded, it was still in her, she just had to find it again.
Although these things were happening to Alex during this temporary stage in her life, her inner empowerment would soon shine again and would come out of the struggle with the help of those (good) around her.
Alex was empowered by a never give up attitude -
Alex endeavoured to seek Maid work time after time. She was willing to clean out a hoarders house for $10 an hour! She was empowered to help others.
Through this never give up attitude of Alex's towards life in general, things eventually went her way, even through the times she thought she was stuck.
The Husband (Sean):
Sean had his own problems in life from a child to an adult. Seeking help for his alcohol problem, gaining help from an alcohol reform group. Alex's father attempted to assist him by attending the groups with Sean. Alex did not like this as she didn't have the best relationship with her father.
Alex's empowering personality shone through as she saw Sean's car on the side of the Road. She went to find him hidden in the bushes and helped him return home safely. Alex was a kind soul. A spirited soul just like her mother's heart.
Sean ended up realising his alcohol and anger issues and decided to sign over full custody so Alex could go to Montana (just in time) to start college. Which was most definitely the right thing to do.
The Father (Hank):
The most profound scene I witnessed as the viewer, was between Sean, Alex and her father, sitting at the dinner table in Sean's house. Alex said she didn't want to sit down to eat, Sean insisted she did, her father said that's ok. Sean resisted and screamed at Alex insisting she sat at the dinner table, as to which she did.
As the viewer I have the opinion that If Alex's father had of stuck up for Alex and told Sean that wasn't appropriate to speak to his daughter like that, perhaps it could have given Alex a little bit of respect and trust in her father again, however it didn't happen. Alex's father just sat their quietly when she sat down and continued on with serving the dinner. He enabled Sean's behaviour by doing this.
I see Alex's father as someone who tried to help, but in the wrong way. His control came out, just as the days with Alex's mother. He wanted to control Sean, Alex and Alex's daughter. Hanks problem was that he saw himself in Sean. He protected Sean more than his own daughter.
The Mother (Paula):
Brilliant - Emotional - Shocking.
Paula was a harmless soul. Breathing life and happiness into everyone she met. The light in the darkness, the wind in the trees. Paula's mind wasn't right, because of what she has been through with Alex's father (who used to beat her). It is evident that Paula also didn't know the definition of domestic violence. That it had occurred to her, and in turn it perhaps became unstable in her mind due to not being properly treated.
Paula was her own worst enemy, who needed to see real life again, not to drown herself in her own combative ways living in the personality of a full on crazy wacky type person as she perceived to be. Hidden away under the cracks of this person she had now become.
All she needed was love, help and understanding. Unlike Alex, Paula sought refuge in herself, she didn't seek help, she only sought help in the next boyfriend (which never worked out). She seemed to choose the controlling type, her nurturing personality tended to find those types of men. A cycle she was trapped in.
During episode 10, Alex continued to empower others by retrieving her mother to come with her yo Montana, however she declined in the end and chose her boyfriend, which won't work out... the never ending cycle of abusive relationships, and putting those relationships before herself, and before her own daughter Alex. Alex always insisted to help her mother - inevitably mothering her own mother. It was time Alex moved on to establish her own.
Outstanding performance by Andy MacDowell.
The C (Regina):
Alex had described Regina in her book as a C (swear word). Regina was always snobby, very rude, and condescending towards Alex. Alex's humbleness and empowerment continued to show through.
Alex would always be calm, be mindful of what she would say prior to speaking, and would always be courteous in the way she acted, towards anyone, especially Regina.
Through this, Alex ended up finding Regina's heart, and they eventually became friendly with one another connecting through being mothers. Regina helped Alex to get her life back and hired a lawyer to get full custody of her daughter, and protection from Sean.
In conclusion, the Maid series was an intense, emotional roller coaster of a young woman who displayed resilience and courage. One who had nothing (material wise), but who had everything (soul wise).
To have $12 was so appreciated by Alex, to never giving up was her attitude. To show kindness and respect to others even when she was in the pits. Her immense love and care towards her child was never ending. It was beautiful and enriched.
Alex was the type of person to look up to, one to say "if she can get through that, I can too". Inspiring others through her writing and experiences. The courage to never give up and go for your dreams - in her case, writing at college and starting a fresh new life in Montana.
A never give up story.. that the hike may be hard, but you'll make it to the top.
Like a painting of a woman on the beach, with her toes in the water, she's free at last.
