Never Be A Punching Bag for Nobody (2023)
Excellent documentary filled with detail and history
This was even better than I expected! My love of boxing films, geography, underdogs and indie documentaries all in one place! The score was excellent, the cinematography was gorgeous (a sustained shot of marsh grass with the light shifting over and over blew my mind) and so well-paced! I don't know how she managed to pack so much stuff into 65 minutes and keep it that evenly balanced. A personal story, but also one about the history of an East Boston neighborhood and I love how these elements were woven together. This is a really, really good film. It could be an excellent episode of Independent Lens on PBS. I'm really taken by it and I hope Naomi Yang finds subject matter for another documentary in the future!
Star Leaf (2015)
I love trash movies, but....
There is almost nothing to like about this movie. I will give credit to some decent cinematography and some decent (for the budget) special effects. Literally everything else about this movie is terrible. I'd say the writing is the major culprit. Not funny, not scary, not coherent, not dramatic, not interesting. Just a pile of nothing. The movie is mercifully short, at least.
I just want to say, for the record, I give B movies every possible concession. It takes a lot for me to hate on a low-budget movie like this. This movie just sucks. A lot.
Hill Street Blues: Dr. Hoof and Mouth (1985)
My favorite episode
I know this isn't the most well-known or beloved episode of Hill Street, but it's by far my favorite. It's one of the most well-written and acted episodes of the series. They hit all these fascinating little character notes, they called back to previous story threads, they had laughs and some of the most powerful dramatic moments of the entire series. All in this one run-of-the-mill episode. Very rewarding viewing.

IF YOU HAVE EVEN THE SLIGHTEST AFFECTION FOR EITHER THE THIRD MAN OR THE BLUES BROTHERS.....THIS MOVIE IS A HYBRID OF THOSE TWO MOVIES.
hated it.
