Stay Close (2021)
More holes than a Swiss Cheese!
This actually started out quite well. I was hooked.
And then some implausible, skelton-like, feeble, posh millennials get introduced as some deadly kill team. Madness!
My morning cough could blow them over.
As soon as they are introduced, the plot starts falling apart...with holes everywhere in the believability of the story.
It becomes an utter farce.
I have no idea if the original novel was written this way, or whether Netflix has tried to inject a trendy 'hipster' new edge to the story, but it was a shambles.
What a waste.
Stop dumbing down good yarns to appease the masses.
The Prince (2021)
Puerile and crass
Who thought it was a great idea to mock a real-life young kid, who hasn't even developed his own characteristics and personality yet!
This puerile, crass attempt at 'look-at-me' humour just highlights the attempts some people will go to create a name for themselves.
Pick on the weakest, most vulnerable people in society (young children) and provide every other kid in the school playground with mountains of 'fabricated' ammunition to use against them.
Shame on you Gary Janetti. Shame on you Orlando Bloom. Shame on you Sophie Turner. Did you really need the money that much? Because, let's be honest...the project stinks!
Clarkson's Farm (2021)
Should be compulsory viewing
I just didn't think this series would be my cup of tea...until I gave it a go and started watching it.
It then rapidly materialised into one of the best things I've watched.
I just love it and it makes me proud to be an Englishman. A big shout-out to all the hard working farmers in this country.
Hats off to you guys and girls.
Brilliant educational tv with highs and lows, laughter and tears.
It's real life. What more do you want?
Palm Springs (2020)
Oh...come on!! This is great escapism. Brilliant fun.
If you like a great giggle. A good laugh.
A super bit of creative thinking and writing...then watch this film.
Enjoy it.
Experience it for what it is...which is something very different to the normal mundane BS that exists out there.
Thank goodness certain people are willing to take risks and do things differently.
Thank goodness.
Because, this is FUN.
This is ENJOYABLE.
This is MEMORABLE.
This is GREAT.
10/10.
Elephant (2020)
This well-filmed documentary needed a more capable narrator
The narrator simply lacks the range of depth and tonality to truly compliment this cinematography.
The filming was superb and the storytelling excellent.
But it was let down by the underwhelming voiceover, which feels like it was chosen for who she is, rather than how skilled she is.
As for the tons of bogus 10 star reviews from her PR camp...that's quite laughable at once again attempting to control the narrative.
The Night Manager (2016)
One of the best bits of television in ages!
This is one of the best bits of TV I have seen in a while. Absolutely superb. I'm not going to bore you with a lengthy review, I'm simply going to urge you to watch it. Brilliant actors, brilliant acting, great locations, a fantastic story and a great production. High suspense all the way through and a joy to watch.
Olivia Coleman, Tom Hiddleston, Tom Hollander and the resplendent Hugh Laurie were all at the top of their game.
I have withdrawal symptoms already!! Please write a second series. I know you will. I feel the same buzz after this, that I did after the first ever 24, House of Cards, Sherlock and Homeland series.
