The Divide (2011)
A Surprise
Not terrible. However, Lauren Graham's character Eva was almost the most infuriating and useless character I've seen in an apocalyptic movie. Second only to Kate Bosworth in The Domestics.
Luchshe, chem lyudi (2018)
Just Ok
Somewhat entertaining. However, for a show based on ultra modern tech, it felt formulaic and pedantic. The story could've been a whole lot meatier for all that they had to play with. I found myself making Humans comparisons that always left BTU the loser.
The Handmaid's Tale: Mayday (2019)
The way you make me feel
For me, movies and shows are always about the way they make me feel. This episode made me forget the annoying unsatisfying Nick storyline. I can forgive, for now, being denied a more immersive aftermath of Serena, Fred and Winslow's arrest/absence.
This episode was beauty and darkness and hope. Much of this season was meandering with a pointless June/Serena built up storyline and could have easily been 9 or so episodes but the finale made up for it.
Oobi (2000)
Ooooo- bi
My son loved this show as toddler. I have to admit that I loved it too. The very first time I saw it on Noggin, his dad and I looked at each other and busted out laughing. It seemed so absurd that something as simple as a fist with eyes stuck on could ever be entertaining to our son. But, seeing as our kid was easily entertained - he would easily spend 30- 40 minutes chasing a sheet of paper blown by a fan with absolute joy, I kept it on.
He would light up with a slight crease between his eyes in concentration. At this point, he was a little behind on his speech. He had speech patterns and the cadence down but wouldn't actually form words and we (read: I) were starting to worry.
Oobi, well mostly Ooma, gave him something to imitate. He didn't magically begin to talk but he mimiced the patterns and picked up words. I'd keep the show on even after he'd fall asleep because it was entertaining but also because I wanted to learn anything I could to encourage his communication skills.
Black Summer (2019)
Unlikeable, Idiotic Characters
I'm only nd episode and a half in and I already detest ALL of the characters minus Spears - and even he is on the bubble after wasting a half of a clip on Patrick's torso.
I love pre and post apocalyptic anything and was so excited for this series and so far it's a monumental letdown. I cannot overstate how ludicrously moronic the characters. Why is everyone scrambling for one minivan when there are dozens of cars lining each street?? I can only hope that in a real apocalypse the people really are this stupid, it'll be a lot of Otises for me to Shane.
