Secretariat (2010)
beautifully done
This an amazing and beautiful movie about the super horse Secretariat. It is realistic to the times, and I like that it shows that family interaction and what people were doing that weren't involved in the horse racing industry in that era. That made me connect back to the 70's and remember more of the facts. For goodness sakes, people, this is a Disney movie, made for the whole family, about an animal hero and his effects on people and the industry. It wasn't meant to look exactly like the real thing, and if you want to watch the real Secretariat run, then go to utube and watch him run. But quit slamming a beautiful movie about a beautiful horse.
Appaloosa (2008)
great movie, wrong actress
The movie was excellent the first time, but when I went to watch it on TV,I did not want to see Renee Z. again. She was awful in this movie, too sickeningly much, too much lip, too over exaggerated, over acting. The settings and landscapes were as good as Open Range, but her acting of this character wrecked the whole movie. There were so many other actresses that would have been much better, Kate Hudson or Drew Barrymore would have been great. The story is good and sad,and the movie was well produced, but casting so wrong in Renee Z.'s part. Ed and Victor were excellent and the movie moved along just fine. Not on my top list.
Big Love (2006)
I love this show
This show is so much fun. It brings you into the lives of each of the characters and wants you to live each one. It is so real, and though I do not believe in the practice of polygamy (plural marriage), I find the subject matter extremely passionate and interesting. AND, the show is very quirky, very much like my last favorite series "Northern Exposure". Kudos to the producers and writers. Keep it coming. Just remember to make it clear to the public that these people are FUNDAMENTALISTS and not true LDS Church members. I am going to buy the first season, as I didn't find this wonderful series until part way through the first season. The stars are so believable and are doing a super job in the show. Bill is of course my personal fave, and is really getting under the pressure of a BIG LOVE. The coming episodes should be very interesting. Watch, laugh, and enjoy!!!!
Wanda Nevada (1979)
too cute to be bad
This movie is absolutely adorable. Having seen it many times throughout the years, each time I find more fun and silliness in it. The silly and animated acting reminds me somewhat of "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken", another great adventure film. It is not meant to be a "romance movie" as it is too ridiculous, but more an adventure, with breathtaking scenery. Peter Fonda's part of a 35 year old or so gambler, never does anything to abuse or hurt Wanda, "Brooke Shields" who is coming of age and wants to see the world and be a star. He is very respectful of her and respects her younger age. The only one who really announces his desire to "have her" is the sidekick of the bad guys, who ends up dead hanging on a cross. Bo and Wanda both are looking for the "Pot O Gold" in their lives, and happen to partner up. She brings out the good luck charm and they end up happy together, yeah, so there is a slight difference in age, there is no sex or nastiness in the movie. The so called "bad acting" that some people mention is their hamming it up to add to the script. I think they are having a great time with it, and those of you that think it's so bad, lighten up and have a laugh. Maybe you'll enjoy life more.
Pollyanna (1960)
Overall Pollyanna is a big winner.
Pollyanna is a winner. I loved it because it makes me happy every time I watch it. Anyone who can't laugh and cry with this movie has no emotion at all. Hayley Mills is adorable and so talented, and in the story, as Pollyanna, she is an old soul and wiser that the many snooty people in the town. She prevails over the negativity of her Aunt Polly and the grouchy neighbor in bed, Mrs. Snow, and gets everyone back on track and loving life. Some fall in love, some adopt orphans, some stand up to their spouses, some forgive others for their mistakes, after encountering the positive Pollyanna. When Polly falls out of a tree and gets paralyzed, she is the one who won't be glad. But when the town turns out to say goodbye, she gets it right back. Beautiful scenery, gorgeous vintage houses, and many humorous scenes, make this a family must. I had seen it many times before I had my own child, and when she was ready, we watched it over and over. Whenever I need to have a GLAD day, I put it on.
