I really don't have any favorite movies, so I will just type in some of the films that I watch frequently:
Independent Films
Horror Films Made Between the early 1900s and early 1990s
Comedies made beween the 1960s and late 1990s with a few exceptions
Action movies from the 80s and 90s
most of all discussing/debating issues on these IMDB boards.

Class of 1984 (1982)
amazing 80's Canadian action/thriller...
many have compared this movie to the 1955 classic Blackboard Jungle. I see the comparison, however I feel it's irrelevant when discussing this film.
timothy van patten (salami from the white shadow) plays a high school misfit who leads a gang into violence, drug dealing, and prostitution with an 80's punk vibe that even includes a memorable performance by the underrated hamilton based band teenage head.
look for a young michael j. fox and another humorous performance from sci-fi/horror great roddy macdowell. definitely one of the more darker high school films made only a few years before the john hughes craze broke out
Midnight Madness (1980)
if you find it for $1 like i did, buy it!
not too much about this cheese is known, just that it was an early role for michael j. fox. there are a few other notable actors as well.
the plot basically revolves around a few teams going on a scavenger hunt put on by some nerdy college student. the teams scatter around the city facing various obstacles.
it's not much, but it works. the film will keep you interested and the characters will keep you engaged. like i said, i paid a dollar for it and i don't feel that it was a poor investment. it's an unusual movie filled with a different slapstick movie, filled with interesting topics and cultural references during the time of its making.
