Alien: Romulus (2024)
Get away from her you b****
I remember the first Alien film I ever watched was Aliens 3. I was young, at a friend's house and their parents let them watch whatever they wanted. I remember thinking this film isn't that great but the alien is awesome. A few years on I watched Alien and Aliens and they were such great movies I must've watched them over and over. Since those the rest of the films just didn't cut it for me and then the AVP movies were just awful. If you liked the originals you will love Romulus. I went in with no expectations as most new films in beloved classics just can't reach the same potential, but they got everything right here. The aesthetic style and look, the practical effects, the tension, face huggers a plenty and of course aliens 👌🏻 It starts slow but once it gets going it doesn't stop 💀
Boy Kills World (2023)
A gory action fun time
If you like revenge movies with a twist and tons of mindless goons being evicerated for your entertainment then you will enjoy this movie 👍🏻 I am one of those people 👍🏻 My expectations were quite low but by the end I had a great time and it was much better than I originally thought. The fight scenes are really well done and there are some laughs thrown in (especially when Boy played by Skarsgard is trying to lip read someone) Bill Skarsgard is awesome in this and I hope he continues to do more action roles. Don't watch this if you dont like blood on screen, have an irrational fear of cheese graters or your with your nan 👌🏻
Solar Opposites (2020)
After watching 4 seasons
I can honestly say that this is one of my favourite shows. I like Rick and Morty, at first it was fun but then it just gets really ridiculous sometimes. This is ridiculous but in a fun way and Terry and Korvo are one of the best cartoon duos. The side story of the wall is amazing and incredibly well done. Silver ops is picking up more now in season 4 and is great fun to watch. I'm really hopeing there will be alot more of this as it's just too funny. When Korvos voice changed at the start of season 4 it took a while to get used to but then it totally works and Dan Stevens does an awesome job 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I can happily rewatch this over and over and it's still funny. Thomas Middleditch is absolutely hilarious voicing Terry. Jesse and Yumulack are brilliant and bring the family feel to the show and the Pupa is the best baby character since Stewie in the early seasons of family guy. He may not really talk but when he does "Cocomelon" it works so well.
Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
Never played the games
Having never played a single one of the FNAF games I do know what they are about and have seen some gameplay. Making a film adaptation of a video game and pleasing fans and newcomers is not an easy job so I don't envy any director who takes on these projects. You will always miss something or upset someone, it's impossible to make everyone happy. What I liked about this film is that they did there best adapting it to the big screen. I liked the actors, the animatronics were cool and visually it looked great. I understand that the games had more of a horror element so people were expecting to see gore (myself included as a big horror fan) but I think they intentionally dialed that down so younger fans might be able to watch. Hopefully a sequel would ramp it up a little. I enjoyed it for what it was and hope there will be a sequel. Silent Hill is probably the closest video game to film adaptation I've seen that I felt got alot right 👍🏻
Castlevania: Nocturne (2023)
So far the original series beats this
I enjoyed this spin off series and the characters are all likeable. The animation art style is beautiful but it just didn't grab me like the original series. The original is way more action packed and gory, this one is lacking but I enjoyed the story and do want to see what happens next. Would be good if the characters from this series and the original could join up but the timeline of events is different, although there's magic so it could happen? Very impressed by the art studios creating these shows. As someone who never watched anime until now I'm excited for more. Devil May Cry looks impressive and I'm a huge fan of the video game series so that will be next.
Castlevania (2017)
A review from someone who never watches anime
I've never been one to sit and watch anime, it just never clicks with me, but as a fan of horror movies and the Castlevania video games I watched a trailer for this and thought wow this looks pretty impressive. I started it when it was released and that was it I was hooked. The art style is absolutely incredible and I'm blown away by how amazing this looks. The voice cast do an outstanding job and after watching 4 seasons I'm left wanting more. It's gory, the fight scenes are gorgeously created and I've also watched Nocturne but this original series is definitely my favourite for action 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Scream VI (2023)
Still going strong with these new additions
I watched Scream 6 tonight as part of a double screening showing 5 and 6 because I really liked how they bought it back in 5. This is real fan service in this film and as a long time fan of the movies (the first being one of my favourite slasher horrors) I like what they did with this one. I did manage to guess who or whom was doing the stabbing and how it all related which was good because usually I have no clue. Never the less the reveal was still awesome. Also Samara weaving was a nice surprise I had no idea she would be in this but a great addition to the cast. If your a fan you'll love it.
The Walking Dead (2010)
Having watched from day 1, the end was satisfactory 👍🏻
After all these years of watching, being on the edge of our seat, all the emotions throughout and attachments we made with the characters, today was the day it all ended. For the past 12 years we've followed the apocalypse and witnessed the desperation and sometimes pure evil of the human race. I remember watching the first episode with my then girlfriend (now wife) and thinking I'm liking this alot, to watching every episode as it came out on TV until today. I won't lie it will be really missed and it's the only show we've ever followed together and watched every episode off together (apart from the first episode of Season 7 with Megan's big entrance, which she couldn't watch at the time due to just having our daughter in hospital, and to this day she still hasn't seen it. I waited for her but she said to watch without her). So much of the show was amazing and gripping but it did have it's moments of dragging on which never made me not want to watch just could've been a bit more exciting. The journey was alot of fun and the cast were amazing throughout. I'm happy that we will get to see some of the characters again in the extended universe. All in all this final episode ended the only way it really could've and it was satisfying. I'm so glad it wasn't my wife's thoughts for the ending which were "Rick waking up in the hospital and it was a dream after he got shot in the first episode". That would've been disappointing 😂 Thank you to Robert Kirkman for bringing the walking dead into our lives and everyone involved in the show. It was a great ride and one I won't forget 😊
