Season 1 was GREAT! but season 2?????
3 July 2023
Camera work dissolves to film school levels, and sometimes just extremely bad with no pretended justification!

Then there's our star.

She changes from a cutie-pie with an impish witt, to a Butch you won't want to watch.

You gotta wonder.

Who was stupid enough to let so many facets of season 2 turn to garbage at the same time?

It reminds me of that Broadway show "The Producers" where they try to come out with a show guaranteed to flop because no one expects any return from a flop., But "Springtime for Hitler" became a success! But SEASON 2 OF MISS SCARLET AND THE DUKE A'N' GONNA BE SO SUCCESSFUL!!!

EXCELLENT!

Midst all the trash that's "reviewed" and wastes our time, A GEM APPEARS.

Ms. Tate does an incredible balancing act: outlandish, but kept me both intrigued AND feeling GOOD, So much so, that I streamed the 1st season in one evening, The only agony I have, is WAITING FOR SEAON 2!

subject matter10 but -3 for poor organization
1 June 2023
I understand that they were trying to give Reality's experience reality, but they failed.

That's as much as can be said about it.

Actors did well, but the whole thing needed better organization, otherwise what was the point?

A narrator and the recordings would've worked better.

Great writing, plot twisting, actors...BUT won't give it a "10" because...

(mind you, I'm no prude, but...) The gratuitous sex interupts and interferes!

Every few minutes the story is interrupted for no apparent reason.

I'm on S03E09, but may say to hades with it, if the gratuitous, bi-racial sex doesn't lighten up!

The millions wasted on this shows why the wealthy need to be taxed more!

The Best thing I've seen in years, particularly if you were a an early boomer in NYC
2 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I was so delighted with this "slice of life" series! Although I saw some time-line errors (VERY VERY FEW and only noticed if the village in the late 50's - early 60's was your stomping ground) But it's all there: Macdougal Street, Bleecker Street, The Cafe Wha, The Cafe Wha Not, The Back fence... If you toted your guitar or brought your comedy spiel to the showcases back then, or even into the early 70's, You'll remember and ... makes me wanna cry.

If Will Smith doesn't get an Oscar for this, something rots in the "Academy"!
25 December 2015
Will Smith's character hasn't a REMOTE semblance to Mr. Smith's usual tongue-in-cheek, Fresh Prince.

His concentration never waivers in sadness or a smile, in serious discussion or anger.

There's a term that's used on stage called "breaking character". You won't see THAT in this film.

The subject matter brings a sad commentary to light. Too often sick or injured people are regarded by those of authority as people who are strictly bad "actors" whose behavior is deliberate, and under their control.

The saddest thing that this movie presents is that Doctors, who should be more aware and first to alarm, often are the "authorities" that perpetuate the fallacy.

KUDOS to Will Smith and the rest of the cast for presenting a film that not merely entertains, but presents the subject with the seriousness it deserves and a sledge hammer to the heart.

not a Joaquin Phoenix fan,,,BUT
8 January 2014
I'm more than 45 minutes into this and I'm bored to tears.

There's entirely too much introspection and too much time where the characters reflect on absolutely nothing important.

Now, like I said, I'm not a big Joaquin Phoenix fan, but this is probably his best and yet I still feel like reading a copy of Mad Magazine, instead.

The director is taking himself too seriously and would be better off directing a daytime soap opera.

The girls, however, ARE worth taking a look at....briefly.

And other than them and Joaquin Phoenix, there doesn't appear to be any other actors......cheap way to make a movie.

What a weekly movie is supposed to be!
17 October 2011
The action keeps your interest.

The actors perform for YOU, not the academy.

The direction has just that tiny bit of schlock to touch your humanity.

The story line is amazingly imaginative. It beats this year's offerings hands down! It's too bad that the editors at IMDb can't take a lesson from this economical script writer and realize that the best narrative is short and pregnant, not necessarily "10 sentences" long.

This is what I go to the movie theater for instead of downloading or buying a DVD TO WATCH AT HOME.

It's a winner. Run to your local theater!

The Debt (I) (2010)
Even Helen couldn't save it
13 September 2011
The only time I wasn't bored stiff was when the Gran Dame was on screen.

The actor who played her character as a young woman had her moments, but they were too few.

The Actor who played David was B-L-A-H! and way out of his league.

The Actor who played the other member of the team did show some emotion, but was severely one-dimensional. He needs to stop forcing his uncle into getting him major roles until he's been on the boards longer.

The only reason I didn't sleep through most of this movie, was the irate shaking of my shoulder by the person in the next seat who thought that I was snoring too loudly for her to sleep!

This time Mr. Madden brought us a pretentious BORE!

only Douglas and the CNBC clips made the movie
27 September 2010
The girl was B-O-R-I-N-G....... ...................................terribly miscast and her part poorly written. NO CHEMISTRY AT ALL in the boy-girl thing. Although many of us understand why the "bottom" of bad paper couldn't even be estimated (referred to in the movie), Most Americans have no clue what the different classes of mortgage bundles are. One of these melodramatic scenes could have explained them, but our writer evidently didn't want to do anything more than he did with the Kennedy Assassination: absolutely nothing.

6 out of 10 is kind.

Ranks with Ironman2 for worst picture of 2010
4 August 2010
First, let me say that ALL the Actors, but one, were fantastic, and the one that wasn't, had a language/enunciation problem. (half the time he spoke you couldn't understand what he said)

But good actors (and believe me they did their damnedest!)can't make up for a wandering script with poor suspension of disbelief.

Just when something needed expounding or explanation, the script would jump to a different scenario.

And the sound!

I guess the editor thinks that when you push the volume, no-one will notice how the villains (the "projections") have no identity (individually OR in groups) for the audience to hate (OR love.)

So loud during the bombings and shoot-'em-ups, I had to plug in my ear- buds.

This movie could have been the best of the year with INTELLIGENT rewriting, editing, and minus the actor with questionable language skills.

Instead, it was nonsense.

I can not believe IMDb's 9.2/10 rating. I smell a rat. I guess if Congressmen and Senators take bribes, why not IMDb "payola"!

Where did this wannabe get the money?
10 March 2010
Really....did he steal it? He stole valuable minutes of our lives with a fantasy Vietnam film.

I say fantasy because NOTHING about this film in any way resembles the RVN that I fought and bled in.

And none of his characters would have lasted 1 day in the field.

There was no such infantry job as "tunnel rat".

Everyone in an infantry platoon sans Platoon: Leader, Sgt and Medic took their turn crawling in holes and walking point.

And if any moron puffed a stinking cigar when we were about to engage, I WOULD HAVE SHOT HIM.

Most of the so-called Vietnam war movies have no resemblance to what it was like and some like the Rambo and Chuck Norris films bordered on satire.

At least they were entertaining and often had SOME bit of help from a consultant.

This piece of garbage has NOTHING....... no entertainment value, poor actors, no direction, and a ridiculously dishonest portrayal of wartime Vietnam's jungle.

It's amazing that someone could throw away so much money in these hard times.

Anne Hathaway is truly talented and this film shows it!
5 January 2008
One delightful movie with a show stopper that you'll want to see several times.

Some say this is a movie for children, but I assure you that this jaded, grizzled old man smiles and feels his toenails tickled every time he views it.

I've no idea why the "guidelines" require 10 lines, because there isn't any point to restating superlatives unless spoilers are encouraged,

Suffice it to say that there's a very inventive fantasy here that tops most cinema offerings. Ms Hathaway sings and dances her way to a truly original art offering without any peer..................................... save maybe Raci Alexander. That's the girl who performed the wonderful music video of Burt Bacarach's "Wishin' and Hopin'" at the beginning of "My Best Friends Wedding" (starred Julia Roberts).

Most boring pseudo-intellectual film-school wannabe *&@#!
17 October 2007
If you speed this up to 8X, you won't miss a thing.

The camera lingers on every gesture and movement far longer than any human can pretend attention.

This film could be edited to 15 minutes and it's obvious that the people responsible for it are shameless boors.

The raters must be the producers, cast, and crew's family & friends or folks who saw an entirely different film.

I would be as dishonest as they are if I pretended that there was more to add to a review of this "movie",

but IMDb requires 10 lines as a minimum for a review of this waste of footage.

I CAN NEVER TRUST AN IMDb RATING AFTER THIS.

What a GOOD movie once was!
15 May 2006
This has it all:

Action, surprise, heroes, good-hearted babes, really-rotten low-lives, economical use of flashback video, GREAT graphics for the intro and (particularly) the end credits, and a feel-good ending.

Oh, and for all of you who don't get any, There's a very brief sexually suggestive scene that's as hot as they come!

This is a "kitchen sink" movie that has everything in balance. (Producers & Directors note well!)

The movie's content was economical as opposed to IMDb's requirement that reviews have a minimum of 10 lines, discouraging "economy of language" and giving the reader's eyes a break with some white space!
