Echelon Conspiracy (2009)
Great suspense thriller, MUST SEE
This movie is in the vein of Eagle Eye, though told from a somewhat different perspective. Its a fun movie to watch, and it doesn't bore you with technical babble that only a computer geek would understand. I don't want to spoil the plot twist or anything, but lets just say there's a lot of sex, drama, and action in this movie, and the script keeps up the pace. The main character Max essentially falls into a bonanza when he receives a surprise gift, which eventually has him running from guys with guns, flying around the world, and making love to a sexy Mediterranean beauty. You could definitely find worser movies to watch.
The Kingdom (2007)
Nothing more than graphic made-for-TV quality mosh
This is a shoot 'em up non-shocker is meant to grip you with anger at Arab terrorists, fear at what they might be planning in the real-world world, and sympathy for the feel-good Americans portrayed in the film.
Ultimately the formula is too weak to sustain and is shattered in the hale of bullets that ricochet across the screen casually throughout the film. The viewer is expected to absorbed the insinuated propaganda (Arab kids plot to kill you) while the eyes and mind are occupied by the latest bomb blast. This is not so different from real world infotainment, with the expectation as a movie it should entertain with plot, storyline, and acting ability.
Instead we receive a horrid storyline with even worse acting. No, the blaze and bombs won't vindicate the hours and minutes wasted, because it becomes predictable and somehow tame. Unfortunately it doesn't look like anyone will be receiving an award for their role in this "film".
Hostile Intent (1997)
A refreshing take on the hacker genre
The story itself is simple enough - a hacker too smart for his own good gets into the corporate life and is in over his head before he knows it.
That said, the story does a stunning job of portraying the morbid danger of an info-police state, and the viewer is drawn into the implications to such an extent they can almost see the movie characters as actually out there, fighting for them.
There are a some rather unexpected plot twists that do throw the viewer off, but, fortunately they lead solidly back to the story-line & do a remarkable job of creating enriching characters the viewer can cheer on. Great movie. If this had the budget of Enemy of the State, it would probably already be in your collection as an untouchable classic.
Fight for Your Life (1977)
The only shame you get from watching this...is that you did at all!
I enjoy movies. They just have to be entertaining. This movie might be shocking to you if the only movies you've seen were after-school specials. The scenes are not that vile or outrageous either, which is both shocking and sad for this kind of movie. As I watched, I waited for something interesting to happen, only to see the most predictable scenes acted out by the worst possible actors. Dialog, plot, acting, isn't really B movie material, its just shoddy. After a while of watching you realize this is all there is and you can't help but feel a little cheated. It might have helped they made an attempt at a plot that made sense, or better yet actually did something with the characters. I saw this movie expecting a revenge film and got some director's attempt at trying out his camera angles. I could probably watch two cows chewing grass for an hour and half, and came back with more than this gunk.
Time Bandits (1981)
OK movie ruined by social conditioning propaganda
This movie is funny & fun.....................IF YOU CAN OVERLOOK THE SUBTLE PROPAGANDA. Throughout the beginning of the movie, there are quite a few scenes with shooting-squad style executions, and you also see 2 figures in the movie (the comical Napoleon & the regal King) both telling their advisers to order executions. Then as it gets to the end, just WHO is the "Supreme Being" we've heard so much about? He's a 70year-old white guy in a suit, as if he's just come in from a day at the office. He then orders the dwarfs around like you would expect from an overbearing boss/father figure. I don't know about you, but I would never let my kids watch a movie where summary execution is a backdrop between comedy & father/son themes...something a little strange about that. But come on, do you really want to imprint some CORPORATE BOSS AS THE SUPREME BEING in the back of your child's head?? No.
