Pune-52 (2013)
Marathi audience is not ready for this type of movies
Great dialogue, different concept and great actors. The flow of the movies is great. 90s aesthetics is perfect. We need such stories.
We are still stuck with cheap comedies and cheesy love stories. Anything different confuses us and that's what other reviewers are also point to for this movie.
Protagonist is flowed and he unreliably narrates the story. Takes you on a ride.
Little Things (2016)
Fell short of expectations
Little things was about, as name says, little things in a couple life. Where to eat? What to watch ? Whom to meet? It is about the banter. That was the fun. Something I can relate to and fascinated about the stories in season 1. They kept it very light and entertaining.
Since they moved the show to Netflix, the show became fixated on career, future of the relationship, families. Why ? I started to hate the lead character of Dhruv as he is becomes self-obsessed and annoying in later seasons. This is not something I was looking for.
Still, great try towards Indian modern relationships.
Raat Akeli Hai (2020)
Good plot , great actors
Story is great. The ending has shock value. Actors are amazing. Cinematography engages you. The mixture of thriller and Indian political drama was combined at the end very well.
Few threads are left unsolved for some reason.
Rajwade and Sons (2015)
Family meets generation gap
Director Sachin Kundalkar is handling a very delicate subject in Marathi culture. The movie progresses very well. The characters and their story lines are developed in very sensible manner. There actions / reactions are perfect fit to the story line.
I really liked Laxmi's story line about someone who has already given up on to the fight the youngsters are fighting in this movie. Her being in the family despite being married was portrayed amazingly. Being helpless in front of the cheating husband shows how weak she is now and how she was weak when she was young. Her life is controlled by "Man" in her life and she regrets it.
Only thing does not fit in the movie is the central character "Vikram" . Honestly, he does not need to be there. "Shubhankar" would have done is better with Atul Kulkarni as an amazing actor. Vikram's ways and reaction are somehow irritating and he does not relate to the family as he never spend any time with the family to begin with.
3 Idiots (2009)
another movie with a protagonist
I guess I might be only one around here saying bad things about this movie. It's not like the movie is awful, but the its another Bollywood movie where protagonist is really really nice and talented guy and almost everybody else is his subordinate. Good masala, pinch of comedy and memorable characters makes this movie very popular but it bugs me why it is "3 IDIOTS" when only one idiot has all the attention.
When the movie was released, I was expecting what was there in the book. A story about engineering life, how things get out of control throughout 4 years. This movie ruins book and it's essence.
The movie talks about and engineering and somehow story turns to a cruel teacher and a rebellious student (I said a student not 3 students, because opinion and existence of other 2 is just there to fill up the space) . Somehow, our education system is culprit of suicides and creating trained monkeys. That topic was good too but they drop it in the middle of the movie and make it a love story.
I will give a plus to acting though, characters portrayed by Amir Khan and Sherman Joshi are fantastic. Even Boman Irani is great in the movie.
In the end, good guy wins and bad guy suffers humiliation we laugh , be happy and leave the theater amused. But I would suggest just think what you watched and is it really different from other movies you watched?
