Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)
Disappointing for Transformers fans
Unicron was cool, but otherwise disappointing. As a Transformers fan I was really hoping that this one would reboot the series, but I think it was pretty mediocre. Beast Wars was a really cool show, but this movie diverges so far from that and the Transformers stories, that I don't even know where to begin! Optimus Primal and Optimus Prime are supposed to be the same for starters. Maybe I am too much of a purist, but the humans were boring and useless, and the story was too unbelievable! Mirage was the only fun character, and I hope they go back to cartoons or reboot the series or at least stick closer to the source material. War for Cybertron was a game with a good story, why didn't they just use that?
Forsaken (2015)
Western 24
A very predictable story with no real deviation from most of the western films. The Alberta backdrop is nice and itself well to this genre. It seemed odd to me that Brian Cox was playing a business man that was so vulgar! Every sentence he uttered had the f word in it, which is probably the only reason for the restricted rating. Kiefer played the same character he always does. A liked the series 24, but it feels like he's playing the same character with a cowboy hat and he has a week instead of 24 hours! His dad Donald Sutherland was the most watchable and I enjoyed his acting and it was nice to see the father and son together in a movie.
The Stand (2020)
Entertaining if you are not picky about a faithful adaptation
If you have read the book and watched the first tv miniseries, then you might be disappointed. However, if you do not have any expectations, then I think The Stand is a pretty enjoyable series. The soundtrack is amazing! I really loved all of the great songs throughout and at the end of each episode. I feel like that was the best part, and perhaps casting was the worst part. Some of the parts I think were more about getting a popular name like Whoopi Goldberg and Amber Heard, instead of getting someone better matched to the character. The last episode was very slow and anticlimactic, and there were many weak parts, but there were also some good parts and overall I enjoyed watching it, even if it was not the best adaptation of Stephen King's classic.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Fans of T2 will love this sequel!
I think this was an excellent sequel and almost lives up to the perfect Terminator 2! James Cameron said that having Arnold in it made the movie skew old, but he just added to the excitement for me as a Terminator fan. If anything the skinny white girl was my least favorite casting choice. I think her towering over Dani looked weird. The best after Arnold would be Gabriel Luna (who was also great as Ghost Rider in Agents of Shield). Without giving away any spoilers, this is an adrenaline packed sequel that should have been a bigger box office success, but I have watched this 3 times and it is a Terminator fan's dream movie!
Billy the Kid (2022)
Gorgeous and gritty!
Gorgeously shot Western that's realistic and enthralling. Baby Billy is a bit boring, but once you get past the first episode of his childhood, old Billy starts to get interesting. I like that it's not censored and family friendly: there's blood, boobs and bad language throughout! It's nice to learn a bit of Spanish and easy to understand Billy and the Mexicans speak. The episode season is pretty short and I feel like I was just getting invested in it! Overall I enjoyed it quite a bit and I truly hope this show comes back for another season so I can get my closure and find out what happened to Billy the kid!!
The Ghost Tank (2020)
Unique and Imaginative!
Blaise is a brilliant filmmaker with wondrous ideas! This ultra low budget film is ambitious and surreal. When he becomes famous, this and his other films will be cult classics!
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Wondering about many things!
The many unbelievable moments like her lassoing a cloud are almost compensated by the entertaining scenes like when they fly through the fireworks. If you can get past all the unrealistic premises, you'll find it to be a fun movie. I suppose my expectations were too high as I was hoping it would be as good as the first one!
