Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Good but...
An ok sequel. Love the chacters though Rocket was missing in most of the movie except in flashbacks.
The most sad part was the Chris Pratt had no energy in first half of the movie. He was like just sleep walking his character. The villian was comical and did not appear genuine. The humour was weak and I missed the hilarious situation of the first two franchise.
The song selection was bad too and they should have had some popular songs from the era.
Special effects were good in many parts. Overall the movie is weak though I would still give it 7/10. I watched it in 3D IMAX and the effect was excellent. Overall one watch was OK.
The Fabelmans (2022)
The reason why everyone is overrating this...
This is a moderately engrossing movie with a thin storyline stretched beyond its entertainment limits. The movie leaves you unsatiated both from artistic point of view and from biography point of view.
So why are critics and award factories going ga ga over it?
Steven Spielberg's halo effect is the biggest reason. How can the man with Midas touch be not a mastero when it comes to snippet from his own life. Thirdly, the actors have done a great job and music is great. Photography is lovely too. Direction is fine.
Just the overall movie comes out as slightly above average fare. If it was not Speilberg's name this movie would get rated 6-7. But because it is Speilberg's name I would give it only 6 stars. Expected more from him.
Kantara (2022)
Good but overhyped
Interesting story and climax. The humour does work some times. But two things are serious issues. The dubbing in Hindi is bad. And it takes away a lot from authenticity of the story telling. Secondly, the first half of movie is slow. A 20 minutes taken of would have made the story telling brisk and interesting.
Acting is reasonably good and so is characterisation of most of the actors. Loved the makeup and simplicity of production. The music is forgettable though.
Now there is talk about sending the movie for Oscars. Definitely not that standard. There are many more amazing movies. Just because it has interesting climax does not make it Oscar worthy.
Smile (2022)
Good but predictable
The movie is stressful but not a typical horror movie. The horror is in the context. But the movie slows down in 2nd half with little surprises. The build up is excellent. The scares are like any other horror movie. The theme and basic story line is excellent. And lead characters have been built up rather well. But only few characters are well drawn out. The police guy could have been better etched.
While you are at the edge of seat wondering how best van this end but you could predict the last scene with 1 hour to go. I think the story writing is lazy. Could have been much better. Sosie Bacon in lead role is really good. Overall worth one watch.
