Carrie (2013)
This is when a remake works.
After reading the reviews - I have to ask, are these people on the same planet? I've just watched this and then tried to watch the 1976 version. How can anyone even compare the two -(that's not a question awaiting a response). Just take the car accident with John Travolta and then the one from this or the Prom Night from the 76 version and this one. The overly long dramatic scenes that could of been cut down instead of torturing the viewer. It's my opinion that the people reviewing those who think any remake is doomed from the start and are obviously Steve Mcqueen fans, state that "Bullit" features the greatest car chase in existence (The car chase sequence in the comedy "Short Time" beats "Bullit" a hundred times over)and that "The Godfather" is better than "Goodfellas". Maybe you should consider dumping your Betamax collection and opening your eyes, or just keep your basement views and opinions to yourself. The Director has done a fantastic job and deserves the credit that none of you see fit to grant. It's a very rare thing these days to see "exact" camera work which has been planned before-hand rather than the "fly on the wall" - "Bourne Ultimatum" camera work.
On Any Sunday: The Next Chapter (2014)
Completely love this beauty!
After seeing the original I was excited when I heard about this and couldn't wait to watch it. I sat with huge expectations that were not disappointed. The reviews from others are a 'tad' on the harsh side.
The hold on Moto Gp was for no longer than 10 minutes throughout the entire 90 minutes. "The Doctor" running around Africa on his motorbike was showing the passion he has for his bike and how much it has changed other peoples lives. Is that really a reason to give a film a bad review?. Unless I am mistaken, It is also about the passion of motorcycling.
I also didn't see a 90 minute advert for the popular energy drink. Only when coverage was shown of the Moto Gp which is sponsorship and you'll get that if you watch the GP!.
My Father In Law is a retired TT racer and I've had a passion for bikes since forever. If this film doesn't ignite the passion then you really are not meant to be watching it. Also watch the first. You will love it.
If you get some spare time and haven't already, check out TT-Closer to the Edge. Another fantastic movie.
The Green Mile (1999)
Breath taking
Wow, this movie has me in tears and not just for the storyline, the acting but the cinematography takes my breathe away every time I watch it. A true master piece of work.
Tom Hanks is outstanding as so is David Morse and Barry Pepper, Sam Rockwell and the late Michael Clarke Duncan. Perfect casting and adore the take on Doug Hutchinson as Percy. You either love him or hate him, there no alternative.
I really cannot praise this film enough and if you haven't seen it yet, where have you been??
A true cinematic treat and I will continue to enjoy Green Mile for many years to come. It will always have a place in my heart.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Flawless Cinematography
Personally this film is listed in my top 20 favorite movies of all time and that is a pretty hard list to get in to. The Director did a marvelous job with this film, the cinematography is amazing, along with a talented cast it's a hard one to beat (well Green Mile does but that's another review)I have read the negative comments and all I can say to that is (as a film maker myself)well is that not the magic of cinema? Nothing created for the cinema as fiction is ever real to life or it wouldn't be called a movie but a documentary but that's my opinion.
I think the story is both captivating and well told on the screen and it doesn't get the credit it deserves.
