Cobra (2022)
Confusing and over exaggerated
Chiyaan and Roshan Mathew's performance was the main boost for the movie, while Irfan Pathan had a decent debut in performance.
A decent story and a good script spoiled by poor direction and editing. Hallucination scenes and sentiments scenes were very much boring, also Meenakshi's dubbing was horrible. Dialogues were over dramatic. AR Rahman' songs were good and BGM during fights were top but emotional BGM was bad.
What the director tried to express is still unknown. Length of 183 minutes was too much. So much scenes could have trimmed down.
Highly disappointed.
Average to Below average.
Could not believe that the director's past movie was Imaikatha Nodigal and that still is one of my favourite thriller movie.
Udayon (2005)
A movie that became my favourite after 15 years.
Mohanlal, Manoj K Jayan, Bindu panicker, Kalabavan Mani, and Salim Ghouse were excellent. Really a very good movie while comparing with some over rated malayalam movies that are releasing now.
Muddy (2021)
Not that bad.
Decent direction (director's first film I think.)
Above average music (hangover of KGF still found.)
Average story. (But mud race was a fresh theme.)
Poor dialogues.
Poor performance from lead actors.(much more experienced actors could have uplifted the movie.)
Climax mud racing scenes were excellent. Seeing those making scenes in the end credit I found their struggle to make those scenes perfect. If they have done those homework for the whole movie then it would have been a much better movie.
Ajagajantharam (2021)
Temple Festival In a theatre.
The movie I was eagerly waiting to see right from the date of announcement just because of one name and that is Tinu Pappachan.
In one word this 2 hour movie will give the effect of seeing a local temple festival and a local gang fight happening there, and there is nothing more or less in this movie, no big story and just like every local fights happening during a temple festival there is no big reason for the fight to start.
Ambi (Kichu Tellus) and Laali (Antony Varghese) is coming for a temple festival with their Elephant Neysseri Parthan (Nadakkal Unnikrishnan) and during the festival they are having a clash with local gang of Kannan (Arjun Ashokan) this is the outline of the movie.
Totally this is not a great movie, but this is really a good entertainer.
Positives
+Direction (Great effort of creating a perfect festival mood)
+Music & BG Score (The backbone of the movie)
+DOP (Even though it was good there was some confusion during fight scenes)
+Fights (Heard the fight scenes alone took 45 days of filming)
+Comedies
+All actors (Everyone did well especially those who had fight scenes)
+The elephant <3 (Another backbone)
+Editing (Fight scenes were perfectly edited)
Negatives
-Dont look for logic
-Lagging in second half
-Anil Nedumangad's character wasn't having finishing
-Climax was felt as a sudden end.
Verdict: Must watch in a house full theatre with friends. Not recommended for family or art film lovers.
Rating: 7.5/10.
Minnal Murali (2021)
They have Spiderman, Superman, Batman etc.. and now we have one.
I believe Shaktiman was the first Indian superhero that too was in my childhood, after that Krrish came. Enthiran also was one kind of a superhero but not human.
Now Malayalam film industry is having its first super hero movie.
The story, making and everything technically was extra ordinary hats off to basil.
Guru Somasundaram was amazing, cant talk more about his character as it would become spoiler Tovino also did well, perfect for this role.
The only negative would be the background music.
Pushpa: The Rise - Part 1 (2021)
Simply Mass, nothing else matters
Had all the flavours that a commercial film demands. I had the tamil version and the main negative was Allu's dubbing, some unwanted scenes were there and could have easily avoided. The movie had a terrific pace from the beginning which was lost during romantic scenes and that could have much more made better.
Everyone was saying negative about climax, but this is a perfect climax for the second part.
NB:Allu said Fahad had dubbed for all languages, but in tamil it is not his voice.
Kaaval (2021)
Decent Action Drama
A slow paced action drama which lies more on reality than fiction.
Strictly one time watchable.
Never expect an entertainer as the movie doesn't demand an entertaining platform.
Sara's (2021)
Old story in a new bottle
Like Jude's previous movies this is also a woman oriented subject but much more serious concept than his previous movies.
The movie starts with the introduction of Sara (Anna ben) who decides she would not give birth to a child in her life. The first some potions made me think that Jude is still in the hangover of his first movie "Om Shanthi Oshana." It took some time for the movie to get on its track in that part time the director tried not to make boring with some funny elements and he was partially success in that.
By the end of the movie it just comes to a repeated track that every women oriented movies try to speak out and the sad thing is that the life of a woman who wants her family support to build her career is getting support only in films, in real life it is not happening and the current situation says that all.
Cold Case (2021)
A Decent Horror Thriller (First horror film without a priest)
The movie starts both as an investigation movie and a horror movie, two characters Medha and Sathyajith done by Adithi and Prithviraj respectively are being involved in the investigation and horror sequences in a parallel way. As the movie goes on it is showing how both get connected, but it took a long time. I just don't want to talk more about the movie as it may contain spoilers.
Final verdict is it is a decent watchable thriller.
Horror sequences were quite repetitive but the technical sides were good and it had all elements to scare the audience. Horror scenes demanded a theatre experience for sure. Investigation was felt much more easy and felt that Prithviraj has nothing much to do in this film, no fights, no chasing or anything thrilling that a police officer does in other films during the investigation.
NB: Watch this movie with headsets and no disturbance; otherwise try to create a theatrical ambience. I am sure that the experience will be superb.
Positives
Story
Direction
DOP
BGM (Excellent work)
Horror Scenes
All Cast (Except Anil Nedumangad's dubbing, sad that he is no more)
Negatives
Some conspiracy scenes were having no finishing and that were ended as a question mark
Some scenes were felt artificial to create suspense.
So many characters were stopped without a conclusion.
Investigation scenes could have been done better.
Verdict: One time watchable thriller.
Rating: 6.75/10.
Jagame Thandhiram (2021)
Over Expectation kills!
While promoting a movie it is very much important for its team to create a hype to boost the movie, but should be always aware that the genre of the movie should be known by the viewers at that time itself, otherwise it will lead to over expectation.
Definitly it is not a bad movie but the lagging and the actress's performance gave me an average experience.
Climax was good, totally a one time watchable one.
Joji (2021)
Wonderful adaptation of Macbeth....
Slow pace, naturality, impeccable performance, perfect casting and direction made this movie a memorable one.
Never felt as a movie that needs theatre experience, a perfect OTT film.
Anugraheethan Antony (2021)
A Decent movie
The movie starts with the character introduction of Antony (Sunny Wayne) a lazy youth who lives with his father (Siddique) who bought two dogs saying that the dogs are much better than his son. The movie then just goes like any other movie as the protagonist's life with his friends enjoyment just like that. Antony then falls in love with Sanjana (Gouri) whom he meets very accidentally and the rest of the movie says how his life changes after that.
The movie had a decent theme and also it had a conclusion to say, but after seeing the first scene itself we can just imagine the story, the editing team could have just cut down some scenes from the beginning and that could have made the movie much more engaging and also such movies doesn't require a slow pace.
Overall it is a decent film to watch out with families.
Positives
Music and BGM (Mulle mulle song had a great feel)
Comedies
Cinematography
First Half
All actors
Those dogs
Negatives
Lagging
Editing
Some scenes made confusion Direction was average
Dialogues at some potion felt very artificial
Verdict: One time watchable
Rating: 6.5/10.
The Priest (2021)
Half baked in many ways..
Just a decent horror drama, nothing much to make thrilling, interval punch was superb, but second half was just average and climax was not that much acceptable.
Saajan Bakery Since 1962 (2021)
Nothing special
A plain movie that have nothing to hold a viewer from the beginning to end and I am still confused what the director tried to convey.
