Street Food: Asia (2019)
Annoying voiceover
Netflix probably knew beforehand that this show would be availabe woldwide. I'm dutch and its increadibly annoying to hear this voiceover talk over this thai woman. Just let her speak and use subtitles. I now hear an americain man, and thai woman at the same time while reading dutch subtitles. Couldn't get past 6 minutes.
Call Me by Your Name (2017)
A lovestore I had never seen before in such a way.
This film tells a lovestory that makes you feel warm inside and also long for an intense romance as is shown. It also has a lot of sensual moments that made me watch the screen intently. I fell in love with Elio and loved the dynamic between him and Oliver. It showed such natural chemistry.
However, there was one thing that left me a bit confused. It was the fact that they were talking French in the film and it didn't really make sense to me. In the end, I could look past it and it didn't really bother me.
At last, watching this film was a beautiful expecience and it definately deserves the positive response it is getting. I my opinion, this should win the Academy Award for Best Picture an Timothée Chalamet shoul win Best Actor for his amazing performance in this film.
Lady Bird (2017)
Good film
I started watching this film with the knowledge that it is nominated for an oscar. So I had high expectations but unfortunately this had a negative effect on my experience. In the first half I was a bit underwhelmed and I thought this was just a bit of a generic teen/high school drama. But when I kept on watching, I found out that it is not. And that's one of the reasons that it is a great film. Most high school drama's revolve around boyfriends and bff's. In this film you get all of that but they seem not that important because they are part of a bigger picture. The fact that they are able to show this whole picture makes this film feel very realistic.
I also liked the mother/daughter theme a lot. It made me think about how love can be shown in many different ways but they are not always in the ways you want them to be.
The acting was great and this made the film come across very well. I love Saoirse Ronan.
The End of the F***ing World (2017)
I loved it
I could watch this show on a loop all day long. The odd dialogues made things interesting. The main characters seem so real, they are flawed and they're just looking to find their place in this world and they're struggling, which I can relate to. Also, I love Alex Lawther so much he is such a good actor, probably my favorite actor a the moment. I'm excited about the work he will do in the future. The cinematography was beautiful, I liked the colours. The soundtrack was great. Overall, this was such a good show for me. I was happy to find out there will be a second season. Although I am not sure how they can top this.
(there wasn't anything that bothered me about this show, to me it was perfect so I give it a 10/10)
Atomic Blonde (2017)
Annoying
I loved the way the movie looked, the neon lights gave a nice and edgy feel to it. I also loved the way the characters dressed and the soundtrack was amazing. I wanted to watch this movie because I'm such a fan of James McAvoy who played Percival. The acting was great but I didn't like Lorraine at all. I don't know if this was due to the directing or the acting. Lorraine talks constantly in a whispering tone to make her seem more cool and mysterious. But it only makes her really distant and I couldn't relate to her at all. This was also because there was just no depth in her character. There was no connection so I didn't care at all about her story. I also didn't like the lesbian sex- scene because it felt like they only did this to make her seem more interesting and, to me, they failed to do that.
Peaky Blinders (2013)
I am obsessed
I have watched 3 seasons in 3 days and I still cant get enough of it. So I can't wait for season 4. I really recommend it as it's such a good show. I dare to say that it's at least as good as Game of Thrones, if not better.
As you may have already read, Peaky Blinders is about Birmingham gangsters and how they work towards their "success" (depends on what you'd call a success). The show is thrilling and shocking and I even laughed out loud at some moments. The show knows how to get strong family bond between the characters across.
The characters have depth and they are easy to connect with. It's funny how the show makes you root for the some of the worst criminals you'd ever see. You'll be able to connect with them because they still have a soft side, they do things for a reason. Like Tommy Shelby the main character. Tommy is the gang leader and he is selfish and brutal but everybody still loves him. It's because there are things he truly cares about and loves, and he loves deeply. But he knows what he's doing and he'll always manage to somehow get out of tricky situations.
Another reason I love this show is because Tommy Shelby is just really sexy to me for all the reasons above and obviously his looks and his voice. (but that's just my unprofessional opinion)
I could write a whole book about this show but I will end this here. You should just watch it I know you'll love it
