Uncharted (2022)
Missed Opportunity
Watch The Lost City with Sandy Bullock and Channing Tatum instead.
I write this as someone who is not familiar with the game, but who really likes Tom Holland. Typical Indiana Jones type story. Nothing original. Sooo much missed opportunity- so many times I was expecting a humorous twist or a joke, but no. This movie takes itself way too seriously. Mark Wahlberg had some decent comedy chops, and Tom Holland can act his way out of anything.
But no. The writers were like: let's take this flimsy story line and make it a drama about predictable betrayals and unrealistic activities (see: ancient boat transpo by frickin helicopter 😂). Well done, guys, you really made it 😒
Evangeline (2013)
Nope.
I think maybe the people who put this thing together wanted to tell the story of a woman scorned. I'm guessing that there was some sort of proverb, or old wives tale, possibly from an Asian culture, that fed into this idea, as well. I'm also guessing that the writer and director wanted us as viewers to travel emotionally with Evangeline throughout this film.
I say these things, because they never actually made themselves apparent.
If you've seen "The Crow" or "Jennifer's Body," skip this one. At least then, you won't have to watch those in the future and be reminded of this.
However, if you want to take notes on what to avoid when making a movie, please, indulge. You'll learn how to create a movie containing one dimensional characters, no back story, plot lines that come out of no-where and disappear mid stream, and a general feeling of "what the...?" when the credits start rolling.
Tip of the hat. Good day.
Between (2015)
Such high hopes
Honestly, this is a great concept; however, the acting is meh on a good day. The details of story are extremely predictable, but it's still somewhat entertaining to watch. Nothing new under the sun, am I right?
I'm to the point now where I've lowered my expectations, and am just waiting to see how bad it gets. First time I've been disappointed by a Netflix title.
But I'll keep watching. Gotta give it at least a season, right? While other shows like Orange is The New Black and House of Cards show their hand all in one fell swoop, I can appreciate that Netlix is releasing this season one episode at a time.
Because, at least then, I can forget just how abysmal the last episode was.
Good day, and happy viewing.
