The Pentaverate (2022)
Bad. Do not watch. Not Funny. Brain breaking.
I don't have words for how bad this show is. Like what?!?! This is one of the worst, least funny shows I can remember sitting through. Mike Myers is out of his mind. This is the most self-indulgent pile of garbage since that Zac Snyder zombie movie. Coincidence, Netflix?
The jokes are maybe the least funny thing about this abomination. It's like the humour is from 20 years ago that is used by a terrible script that is just so bad.
The plot could have been a saving grace but so much time is spent on showing the audience how talented Mike Myers is at playing the same character (himself) in a different skin that the story is an afterthought and bland, unbelievably bland. Let me remind you that the story is about a secret society controlling the world, covertly. There was so much potential but it is wasted on expensive-looking sets, costumes and production values. All glamour and no substance. But remember, Mike Myers can play 15 characters in 30 minutes and you should respect his talent and laugh at his jokes, right?
The acting is another major issue. The cast is glad to be working and getting paid to be a part of Netflix, which is dying. This show will be another reason to end your subscription because I strongly believe that maybe 10% of viewers are going to finish the whole series and its only 6 episodes!
My brain is literally broken from the disbelief at how awful this show is. It's mind-boggling. I can't wrap my head around it. How are we as a not-so-secret society in 2022 at such a low, disappointing, disheartening point in entertainment? It's just sad.
Mike Myers should not have been green-lit let alone have a script reading.
I strongly urge you all human beings who are sane to never hover, let alone watch this trash pile. It'll just make you sad and unhappy at how low we've fallen when it comes to entertainment.
The Outfit (2022)
Slow, boring, predictable and unbelievably stupid. Stay Away!
This movie is bad. Very bad. The acting is bad, the script is stupid and the story is uninteresting.
I nearly fell asleep multiple times trying to finish this slow crawler of a movie.
One of the few positives I can dredge up is that it would've made a fine play or radio play.....70 years ago. This story is not interesting enough to be worth the price of a movie ticket.
I have no clue why THIS movie was made. It's several decades too late and most audiences will wish they were rather at work, earning a paycheck.
I highly recommend that no one watch this movie.
The Bubble (2022)
Pure Entertainment!
This movie is a lot of fun if you don't take it too seriously. Everyone's in on the joke and you should be too, so don't fret. Grab some friends, some brews and herbs and enjoy this funny comedy. Any more expectations will just kill your buzz!
Master (2022)
No payoff whatsoever. 90 mins and then poof....nothing.
Master does a good job of keeping tension and suspense throughout the whole movie, however, there isn't a single payoff at the end. Is the college haunted? Is there is a slasher on campus? Is it trolls trying to stir up hate on school grounds? These are just some questions I had while watching, but none of them were answered. Furthermore, the movie tries to touch on contemporary topics of racism on college campuses but fails to say anything critical that would provide closure to the audience. "Racism is bad" is not enough to satisfy today's audiences. Additionally, the motivations and characterizations are the weakest links in Master. Editing is also questionable at times, with characters experiencing events that could be best described as spontaneous without any real explanations. Is it supernatural? Is it psychological distress? Has someone cast a spell on the main characters? None of these are addressed. Instead, the movie just strolls through the story with an ending that left me in disbelief. I felt as though there should've been a satisfying reward at the end for sticking through the whole movie, like perhaps what I expected or subverting those very expectations, but poof, there's nothing!
The actors were committed to a script that some might find too on-the-nose but did convey enough to move the story.
I'll admit the cinematography looks very professional, with good lighting, ergo The Social Network.
In conclusion, Master should keep you in your seat with an interesting story and questionable characterization, but a lack of reward at the end will leave no one satisfied.
Kidô senshi Gandamu: Senkô no Hasauei (2021)
For die hard fans. Universal Century looks new
The movie looks really good and has some beautiful character designs but other than that its a slog and is only recommended for die hard fans who are heavily invested in Gundam. Those new to the series will be extremely confused and will feel no real connection to the characters or story and may feel frustrated from the lack of any sort of refresher.
As a fan of Universal Century, the movie didn't elevate the rich history with younger, but familiar characters, sadly. The endless exposition will please those who like drama but someone seeking a more balanced mix of action will not find it here.
In summary, the movie looks good with sparse action scenes and a story that requires a quick rundown, Hathaway is a worthy attempt by Netflix to present Gundam to an audience who would've wanted a bolder and more thrilling addition to the franchise.
Behind Her Eyes (2021)
Weak, Unclever and Ultimately a Huge Flop. Stay Away!
From its very first episode there are signs that this limited series isn't as bold or as interesting as its audience wants it to be. The characters are flat, simple and whose motivations are ultimately unoriginal and stale.
The story sets up the major characters in a way where their interconnectedness comes off as uninspired and creates a sense of tension that is shallow at best. The only salvageable contribution to this ultimately milquetoast premise is the commitment of its actors and the presented cinematography.
All in all, this series seems to be intended for a younger audience who is just starting to explore the mystery section of Netflix, as its unclever, unoriginal and ultimately weak characters and story prevent it being anything more than a beginners suspense thriller.
The Reagans (2020)
The Truth Hurts
Solid documentary so far into episode 3. President Reagan and his First Lady sure knew how to live the American dream. Too bad they dragged down the rest of the country with them to achieve it. Definitely for those who like to munch on political content and those who are curious. Highly recommended for people under the age of 35 who might not know much about a political era that has shaped much of the United States today.
I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson (2019)
Funny Sketch Show, Too Bad About Tim Robinson Being In It...
I want to start by saying that the show is funny. It's random, outrageous and unpredictable.I didn't always know where a sketch was going to go. Unfortunately several sketches fall flat or just don't have the conclusion that get you excited at the end for or give you a feeling of comedic satisfaction.
The acting by several performers felt awkward and odd. I think it might have been that they just couldn't stop laughing on set and just ran out of energy so they made the best of the footage they had, which is really lazy.
Now,about Tim Robinson. Hes okay. Just screams a lot and is loud. That's his "thing" and that's about it. He is a talented writer along with his writer partner. The comedy is strong and made me laugh out loud at times, but that stopped often when Tim appeared in the scene and gave his big punchline. Hes just one note and I felt no charisma from him like some comedic actors like Jordan Peele or Dave Chappelle. You want to laugh with them and at them. With Tim I just didn't laugh at all.
The show has potential. I would recommend toning down Tim's personality and let him explore unique and different characters rather then the same character performing in a different setting. Since he is the central actor in the show, and I would like to see him again, just give him something else to do, let him be something other than Tim Robinson ya know?
To conclude, I would like to see this show again, just with a different approach to the comedy and storytelling. There were really funny sketches that had me rolling but I noticed that Tim wasn't in any of the them and that is probably the shows greatest weakness. His characters and personality are going to polarize a lot of viewers, which I think is really unfair to the talented writers and production crew who made this show possible.
TLDR; Funny show with unique sketches which are enhanced by Tim Robinsons SNL buddies. Too bad Tim Robinson gets in the way of a lot of the good sketches.
