No Time to Die (2021)
No Time to Die
No Time to Die is a great emotional send-off to Daniel Craig's character and era of playing James Bond. The plot is very personal and loaded with high stakes near the end. Humor is used well and the music is phenomenal. Must-see for Bond fans.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Venom 2 review
Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a decent film that fails to live up to the original, but manages to capture its excitement and energy. The acting from Tom Hardy is fun as always, with the same going to Woody Harrelson as a newcomer to the series. Humor is on point but plot is pretty messy and cheesy at times. STAY AFTER THE CREDITS!
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Shang-Chi review
Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is one of the best comic book movies I've seen! Great humor and intense action throughout the film! You can sympathize with the villain! The music is phenomenal (possible MCU best). Go watch it!
Free Guy (2021)
Free Guy review
Free Guy was awesome and such a pleasant surprise! Enjoyable and entertaining movie from start to finish. So many laughs but tons of heartfelt moments! Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi are brilliantly funny. One of the better movies this year!
The Suicide Squad (2021)
The Suicide Squad review
The Suicide Squad is one of the craziest movies I've seen in a while. As eye-rolling as it is, there is some still heart. However, the character development disappeared and never came back. King Shark is a scene-stealer! Decent at best.
Black Widow (2021)
Black Widow review
Black Widow was a great small-scale MCU film! Tons of intense action and thrill. The theme of family really hits hard. David Harbor and Florence Pugh are scene-stealers. I recommend this to action and MCU fans!
F9 (2021)
F9 review
F9 was a mess of a movie. They went full ridiculous for this film. While you could say that this is expected of the franchise, now it feels as if there are no stakes. Dead characters can come back to life. Everyone is basically invincible. Not great.
Luca (2021)
Slightly better than Cars 2
Luca was in between mediocre and good. The animation was bad for Pixar standards. This looks like an Illumination movie branded as a Pixar film. The story was ok and not that interesting. Good character dynamics. The way the sea monsters transform into humans was so quick and glossed over. As one of the biggest Pixar lovers, this was slightly better than Cars 2.
In the Heights (2021)
In the Heights review: pretty mediocre
I found it to be below average. What was the story? Who was the main character? No narrative. I wasn't exactly sure what the story was when watching it. It has a lot of style with great visuals and musical numbers.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
A Quiet Place 2
Better than the original! So thrilling and intense from beginning to end! Characters and plot were good. So much intercutting but worth the watch!
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Lord of the Rings 3
What a movie! Truly masterful storytelling! Best of the trilogy and probably the best fantasy film of all time!
Inception (2010)
Inception review
What a movie! The style in this film is fantastic! I cared about the characters throughout the film (truly a modern masterpiece). Everything just works so well!!!
Tenet (2020)
Tenet review
Tenet is a movie with interesting concepts and very impressive visuals, However, that's all it has going for it. The plot is very muddled and confusing. The sound was horrendous. While Christopher Nolan has interesting and creative ideas, the execution makes it worse.
Arrival (2016)
Arrival review
What a movie! It was so unique and interesting. Loved the input about language. And the big twist near the end really changed how I viewed the movie. I needed 5 minutes to process afterwards.
Killers (2010)
The definition of a bad romcom
Killers is really bad. I really disliked a lot of the dialogue in this film and the plot was atrocious. I wish I could give it a 3.5 because of Katherine Heigl but I'm rounding down for this one.
X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
A solid entry
Days of Future Past is a film that is really ambitious! It gave a lot of thrill and stakes, but the time travel element is both good and bad for this film. Sometimes I was confused as to what is happening, but in the end, I enjoyed the film. Not the best thing in the world, but it was fun to watch.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Masterpiece
Absolute masterpiece of a film...you all are not ready for that conversation yet though. Everything in this film is so polished and well-put-together that it has become my favorite Star Wars film to date. Exceptionally made with amazing acting and wonderful action sequences. The film had me on the edge of my seat and clapping throughout the film. The people who hate this movie don't understand filmmaking and storytelling.
1) Holdo had no right to tell Poe the plan because he got people killed with his dreadnaught plan - he got demoted; he's in no position of authority - there is NO political anything here (the most political Star Wars film is Rogue One - a movie everyone likes)
2) The Canto Bight sequence is pure Star Wars escapism at its finest - so many wacky shenanigans happening on this planet that it's awesome; the point of that sequence was that it had no impact on the overall story since all of our heroes fail - Finn learns that his motives should not be narrowly focused on finding Rey and fleeing but that this is a cause that is worth fighting for even though he's a former Stormtrooper
3) Everything with Rey, Luke, Kylo, and Snoke is intense and compelling to watch from a cinema standpoint - Kylo killing Snoke off so he can be the main villain of the story makes so much sense for his character at this point
Everything in this film makes sense, you just had a different movie in mind when you were excited for this movie. Rian Johnson cooked in the kitchen with this film.
Star Wars SC 38 Reimagined (2019)
Amazing!
I love this fan edit! It deserves all the praise in the world. This might as well be edited into A New Hope!
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Truth is all there is
Wonder Woman 84 is a peculiar film: it has some really great elements (the chemistry between Gadot and Pine) but a really terrible story with the dreamstone and Barbara's turn to evil. The messages are very mixed for this film. It's not as bad as everyone says it is, but this could have been MUCH better if they had just looked at the script one more time. The film's pacing can be improved with more time with Diana as Wonder Woman. Overall, this movie could have been much better if it was given more time.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
This is the Justice League
I love this film! It really stands the test of time and will be considered as one of the greatest comic book films ever made. Not sure if it's better than Avengers 1 yet. The pacing can be a bit slow in the beginning but it really picks up near the end.
Justice League (2017)
What a utter disgrace to zack snyder
The Snyder Cut is the FAR superior version of "Justice League." I do not consider this to be the canonical timeline of the DCEU. How is this higher rated than WW84?
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)
Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Is Truly "Lost At Sea"
Ever since the Pirates of the Caribbean Ride opened in Disneyland, the producers pitched the idea of adapting the ride into a fantastic action-packed movie entitled Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and four sequels following the significant characters. The characters include the witty pirate Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), his friends, and crew members on The Black Pearl; the ship based on the original film. The movie will not fulfill anyone's expectation of a great movie because it entirely changes Captain Jack Sparrow's character. Besides, the plot lines are similar to the other sequels of the franchise. Either way, Dead Men Tell No Tales, is a merchandising film and will neither entertain fans nor everyday moviegoers.
Cars 3 (2017)
Despite Having A "Flat Tire." Cars 3 Takes The Checkered Flag This Year (includes Spoilers)
For more than 20 years, Pixar Animation Studios has produced several of different classics. Some are excellent films with in-depth storytelling, like Toy Story 3 and Inside Out. Others have upset the critics and the box office records, like Cars 2. Well, Cars 3, however, fits this category of a "fresh" Pixar movie. After the mediocre sequel Cars 2, Pixar decided to step up this franchise's game by pitching a third entry. The movie studio also realized that die-hards of the series would enjoy the third movie being more in tune with the original. The extensive advertising that went into the film, all featuring the crash of Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson), the veteran racing champion, was targeted more towards adult viewers. Unfortunately, the film appealed more towards younger viewers. Cars 2 grabbed adults more because there was a massive spy subplot incorporated into the film, which threw the franchise off-track. As the film progresses the chemistry between Lightning McQueen and Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo), McQueen's high-tech trainer, develops from total strangers to close friends. During the final race, for example, McQueen sacrifices his position in the race to give Ramirez her chance to win her first Piston Cup championship. While this sounds very heroic, the reality is that National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) rookies must enter the rookie division to compete in national championships. However, Cars 3 makes an exception to the reality because this is an entertaining, children's film, not a documentary on how to become a race car driver and retire. Although this is a poignant story about retirement and learning from elders, Cars 3 still manages to be defined as a comedy and family- friendly film. Almost no one was expecting a happy ending to a movie where the main character nearly dies in the teaser trailer. The overall tone makes the targeted audience feel welcome and glad to have attended an incredible film. Randy Newman's score transformed the movie from a sad drama to a happy, fun comedy, using themes from the original, including "The Big Race" which is nostalgic for many people. Although it surpasses Cars 2 is storytelling, the film almost saved this flat- tired animated franchise, but, in the end, does not match the high standards of Cars. Cars 3 is the perfect example of how a sequel should be constructed and created, using nostalgic scores and kid-friendly jokes for audiences of all ages to laugh. While animated "threequels" like Shrek the Third and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs are charming comedies for fellow audiences, only Cars 3 produces comedy, drama, and nostalgia for audiences of all ages.
