Expend4bles (2023)
Oh Megan
First 2 were out of the bat successes and the third we don't talk about.
Fourth was out of the blue and very cash grab which wasn't needed.
I basically stopped when Megan fox took charge on what ever it was. Didn't realise she was having a main role of such and what made me question the film was when the CGI trucks rolled off the plane and they spliced sold terrible action shots of people pretending to be in it. It's as bad as when the flew into the tunnel on the third film.
Never got meg leading so no clue how to really say if this film was saved in the slightest. I love a terrible film from the 90s but not 2024.
Kateo (2022)
Too janky
The story was was way to janky with nothing fully explained.
The over use of drones doing over head to under shots right into side angles happened way too much and became disappointing and hard to really focus on the film. The fast and furious track were extremely long and needed to end much sooner. My attention was being lost and i was falling asleep.
Feel like they wanted 2 cool action scenes but kept it local and wanted back to back. Ruined with the very unrealistic helicopter fight moments. The trailer made it seem the infected were in it more but they just weren't and had some dodgey parts. Like the guy who flew out of the river.
Farzar (2022)
Paradise pd season 4
Had the exact humour as paradise pd did if not more, which wasn't a bad thing as it did give me many many laugh moments. As for the episodes they really were all over the place and weren't that funny. No new comedy or story lines. Felt like a cheap shot for Netflix to give them another season. Hearing all the same voice actors it didn't feel fresh.
The ending really just did cut to credits without a build up.
Resident Evil (2022)
Resident what
This is what happens when you branch off from the film franchise that long ago died.
The story of zeros beginning to regain some sort of pack social system genuinely seemed fresh. Then it just became a very boring story ridden origin. The acting was basic and some characters were somewhat meaningless.
The show would go from almost being a dark horror to a very sub par series where zombies were 20% of it. All about the sisters and not about the research of the zeros.
Didn't seem like the sub plots wanted to flourish and stuck with the flashbacks. The last episode was just dramatic soundtracks. With no true direction if it was a reason to slap umbrella on stuff. Ending was all over the shop and became about nothing.
The French bunker fight scene was the best but was soo far from the horror franchise.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Endless jokes
The entire film was hugely aimed to suck as much money from kids. Joke after joke after joke after joke after joke. Only real serious acting was Jane's death from cancer. The rest was so confusing you really didn't know the build up to the end.
The rallying the kids and the 2 minute end battle really cut the films climatic ending in half. This and the previous thor didn't have a serious nerve. Just funnelled jokes and weak plots.
F9 (2021)
well
They certainly had ideas and making it into a film was never second guessed.
From fast 4 till now the plot has been. A secret organisation is out to use a very dangerous tool to wipe a person out or take over country's. This one did all that and more. A so secret group that not even the secret secret organisations knew of.
This had too many plot wholes and ideas that they wanted to explore. The fact that they sent out 2 people in a very old car into space basically raised the bar for stupidity and realism. And they blew up a satellite and survived proved it.
The Tokyo guys entry into this was so out of place and not needed for the idea to go into space but they threw it in just it be added.
Minefield chase was another odd set. The bad guys vehicles blew up on contact but never the hero's. They bounced around setting it up. Dom took on 50 plus guys and pulled down some foundations to wake up without a scratch or wound. He also lunged a car off a cliff to roll 5 times to sustain no injures .
The film was a one hit watch. We found out how han poorly survived and learnt this franchise is going down the road like resident evil.
Pacific Rim (2021)
Not what I expected actually
Animation of the mechs and kaiju are amazing. They went the road of developing the characters that make you feel more them during there journey.
The creation of the alpha binded with the mech was a clever story twist and with everything going on in 7 episodes, I think it plotted the story just right.
Shame there wasn't many fights but I think it had the right balance.
during there
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Not sure where This was going
Trailer made it looked wholesome and amazing. What happened was thr misuse of a perfectly good script.
What's never explained clearly is what happened to all the worlds vessels that went off into space and what really caused the increased radiation levels. Clooney even visits a recently crashed plane with a living human. where did he come from??? Clooney says only places to live were underground and that wasn't clear.
He should have died from hypothermia on his own. even with the conditions before hand, it's been bumped up ten fold so he wouldn't have had a chance. then walks outside so I'm guessing he finally did his part and could finally let go??? nothing is really clear.
alcohol and meds really messed with him.
Outside the Wire (2021)
A decent average action film
Story between drone pilot and Leo was super odd and because of that the story felt like it was being made up as it went along. Nothing felt organic or smooth the entire way.
the action and cgi held up pretty good and I was pleased with the fighting so that made a change. what didn't seem right was the pay off. Leo goes rouge and tricks everyone. I assumed there was more to the codes and I wasnt surprised or shocked.
ending was a dribble. Started off strong asn for shadowing then went dark.
Busanhaeng 2: Bando (2020)
Dive bomb
I was so hyped for over a year to watch this
The trailer didn't show any of the car chases for a good reason. horrible horrible cgi in those car moments. for a city that can shut down areas for film work they couldn't do it for stunt drivers.
story was weak and predicted but that was it for me. films like them don't have a strong concept and more about whats happening.
ending was awesome till major Jane started speaking. while the mum was about to commit suicide, Jane said "she is doing the right thing" terrible acting.
Blood Vessel (2019)
Average b movie
It's not high end production or Hollywood but it does do a good job as I was hooked.
The deaths happened pretty quickly with not many of them act dying by the hands of the vamps themselves.
The acting was mediocre on a budetike that with the main actor who's meant to be Australian, cutting into American when prompted "you Australian" he says mate. terrible.
Romanian history of the vamps and how they were acquired was a great touch although its very minimal. be cooler if they had discovered this desolate castle or captured them but no they got some coffins and gold.
plot was nothing on a jump scare or horror level as the vamps were always on full screen and never mysterious. also it was predictable on how things planned out.
Extraction (2020)
Aussie John wick
Best action film since John wick. Not as emotional but just as gory and action packed. Not so much back ground story on child killer or the guy who wanted the child. Tad weak but that wasn't the story.
Tad cringe on some cgi but I can't see anything wrong if you want just scences of death and violence from 2 men.
That ending was a rippa
Bloodshot (2020)
Standard action film
Nothing box worthy, nothing award worthy. Just another pay check. Classic action film based on one person. Terrible plot with nothing adding suspense to it.
Just nothing stood out from the start and even with the cheesey ending it still didn't pack a punch.
This was nothing than a average 5/10 action film that doesn't really keep you interested. Even with a lockdown I felt like going outside after this.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
Suicide squad 2.0
It's an all female team and we all know how that pans out. Terrible. Felt so forced, had the 13 month press style like suicide squad. Build up was hyped then when I came to deliver it failed.
The main villain was a generic weak character with a super crap ending. Everyone was so loose and nothing flowed.
Hardly quinn with tattoos was a drop in value with her and she just didn't execute anything. Weak plot. Weak characters. Weak ending.
Zombie with a Shotgun (2019)
What did I watch
Ramdom rape scene, homeless man in a bsck of van, fbi and cops going for shoot to kill and ask questions later.
There wasn't a story, way too many drone shots of the town, no sense or direction, random shots of cult work with repeated locations and flashbacks. Over exposure and nothing adding up.
How do people feel when they've watched what they filmed.
Doom: Annihilation (2019)
In the right direction to a point
So its a starship trooper/ doom reboot. I had to google to find out this had not gone to cinema. It starts of promising but like doom before once people start dying really easy and the plot unfolds infront of us. We begin to see no climax. Classic durranged Dr wanting to keep going even though he's killed everyone on the base. Kidna like the female lead bug still just barking and not really doing much. Seems to switch or drop every weapon she gets constantly.
Now even though this clearly is a b budget movie the soundtracks and scenory doesn't make it feel cheap. No crappy filter to make it look night time when clearly day or cringy fx computer works. So many cheap b movies never had any back ground music to help set the mood or have decent on shot locations. Work has gone into this even though its foul.
I do like the set up but don't like the story. Too samey as the one before.
6 Underground (2019)
Michael Bay action film
As soon as I heard the slow motion scenes I knew Michael Bay had directed this. The story seemed all over the place and the direction of the story was lost. Too many cut backs and talking about there plan.
The bit that got lost was the scene towards the end on the yacht. Went day to night to day. Somehow days had gone past.
Pretty much a standard action film with a weak story line and with a confusing bunch of characters.
Wu Assassins (2019)
Wow
I have always loved the martial fight scenes Iko
Uwais is in. He literally is the baddest, meanest fighter and I can't get enough of him.
The story is that traditional Asian rubbish that the always seem to replicate and yet never get the CGI right. That was terrible but you can pass it easily. Chibs from Sons of anarchy as the villain was not what I expected and genuinely loved it. Nothing thick or major plot twists.
Overall a show you can sit down and really enjoy. 4 days causally I binged it.
Black Summer (2019)
Different
Well over 3 days it took for me to finish this. At first I like the idea of it cutting away to each character on where they were when they had to escape the initial bombings and shooting. After a while and throughout it was rather annoying. Cutting away to 2 zombie moments which lead to nothing but the view of a zombie wasn't too bad.
The plot was so out of whack and nothing giving us a sense of a group. Very last episode it's a huge cluster. One minute there's 50 plus people all armed and homing on the stadium. Took one runner zombie to make all of them disperse and then all hell broke loose. Our main man ends of being dragged and shot. Curly joe did a runner, beard man peacefully walked off and the Mexican chick turned.
Then magically it's all silent and we see the daughter. Cute to black.
Love the zombies and how they turn. Truly a 28 days/weeks later vibe. Story itself and the cuts. Terrible. No sense. Bits missing. Moments not adding up. Curly joe got a man killed while he couldn't kill that zombie with an axe. Then he appears at a drug rave den. And randomly that fell apart. Hoping it doesn't get a season 2 but enough numbers it will happen.
The Silence (2019)
Great start and that was it folks
Film starts off really well with suspense and a sort of introduction of how these creatures in vast numbers are alive after all these years. So the whole world is in decay and people are fleeing. Creating a great set up for what would be a film rivialing birdbox.
Till the cgi Land Rover topples over. Still watched it but it got worse. Creepy tongueless priest and his flock. That was rest of the Film. So mashed up with the daughter and boyfriend and the random jump cut to them getting to the safe zone with seconds of seeing it.
Well for a Netflix film you'd think budget would be involved. It used a few quid to get the vests alive and that car was awful.
Triple Frontier (2019)
Could of done more
So going into this film without reading a review or asking a friend, I had it in my head this was going to be my favourite type. Guns blazing action packed. It was almost there. Except the lack of gun firefights and plot.
Didn't like how the Aim was to go kill one person and get the money out. There was no word of the target and the money went from 250 million to 5 million.
Not really a strong character background. Just a short/weak hire up of the crew. 2 mini shooting scenes and they weren't even that exciting or dangerous.
I looked it as a lone survivor, 13 hours, sabotage type. Generic mercenaries going after a target. Except there was a servere lack of shooting.
Had a set up for a very good film. Sabotage was the same thing except that was a B movie. And this movie had a bigger budget and better locations.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Better than I expected
This is coming out of the cinema
From what critics had said about the cgi and the story line not being great or built up was a heavy hit. Yeah I can understand that the plot was easy to expect from the lover being a cyborg scraper to how she planned out during the film.
The cgi was spot on to the point you couldn't tell the obvious signs of green screen or rendered locations.
Fight signs and the gore level was more than I anticipated and can't wait for the sequel. It's nothing like a box office smash like any of the marvel films but it's out there as a contender for a very successful trilogy if the cards are set.
Kingdom (2019)
Breath of fresh air to the zombie genre
Always been a fan of zombie films and tv series and this was something else. Rinsed it in a day as it's only 6 episodes which I needed more.
Quality of the production and locations was stunning and really made it feel there no where to hide. As I had to places English audio to watch it, at first it was a bit hard but it got quick and enjoyable fast. The style of zombie was really fresh and how they contract the disease was new. The era it was placed in was much better than all modern apocalyptic styles. Samurais and zombies was a good concept. Day they are fine to night was exceptional!
The ending with the big defensive push was calm and building the tension reall well till the final moment!
6 episodes seemed way too short and it might be another year till I see it again.
IO (2019)
Not sure
Well the intro built it up to be epic and possibly a journey. It was a girls dream and for some reason a one persons mission. Nothing exciting happened and it just monotone. Watched it from start to Finnish hoping something dangerous would happen or something action would occur. Nothing. A boring plot with no end site to the shuttle.
Escape Plan 2: Hades (2018)
Well
I got to the 6:34 mark when the buildings blew up and oh boy did the cgi look cheap and disgusting. I've stopped the film to actually type this.
The camera work is all up in the characters faces and constantly shaking. I haven't watched enough to see the story line side of this but under 10 mins and I don't like what I'm seeing. As soon as I knew escape plan 2 skipped screens they had escape plan 3 already in the works. This is not a great film but a film to kill time and not take it seriously.
