The Green Knight (2021)
The Highest scored movie I really hated
I rarely write reviews, but often read them here and more oftan than not a high scoring movie with lots of reviews is a safe bet to be worth a watch at the very least. This is not one of those - I certainly wish I had read some before the viewing in this case!
Some defended their higher scores reviews with belittling other viewers reviews assuming they all are looking for high impact action adventure, or Game of Thrones level complexity and effects. Or touted.it by comparing it to other movies that have a slow build, or beautiful scenes and cinematography. Most of those things had other qualities that made them work, that made them worth the time investment.
There is no payoff, there is no real Hero, no true villian - The quest is not great and is often just confused meandering, What virtues do come up are fleeting and minimal compared to the many weakness's of the main character. ~ Which make some or at least one of his earlier actions seem unlikely - yet the majority of the film is based on that out of character event. Had it been the first glimmer of who the character would become it would work.
More than one person called this a snooze fest, I totally see how that can happen as viewers hang in tenaciously waiting for something, Anything!... to make it all worth while.
Vivo (2021)
Initially was not sure what to think, then I watched it
I read other reviews after watching the film - I get some of the low scores - If you are all into Disney Pixar flavor this may not be up your alley. If you found Hamilton annoying because the song lyrics and interspersed slang made it hard to understand... again this may not be for you. Not my favorite animation style, but certainly not as unfinished as many animation releases are these days - But for many this will be amazing.- and most of the songs are fast paced energetic and fun - Very VERY reminiscent of the tempo and feeling of Lin-Manuel Mirandas songs in the smash Broadway hit Hamilton. So even people who do not normally line Animation, but loved that type of music will enjoy this.
SAF3 (2013)
Production values in many areas need lots of polish
On my first draft of the review I felt like I was ripping the whole episode to shreds on soundtrack, camera-work, overacting and poor acting and even continuity and makeup issues. I know professionals put huge amounts of effort to get a show on air and viewer support and reviews are their lifeblood.
I often prefer television dramas and I hope that most of these issues smooth out so we can accept the world they are attempting to bring the viewer into. A premier episode should try to be a best foot forward and this feels more like an unaired pilot episode for those that have seen them and know what I'm referring to - These Pilots are often unpolished and are often trying different aspects of production to see what does and does not work. Up to this point I believed most went through trial viewings with audience reaction reviews which I have participated in a fair number of times over the years. The goal being to get the responses needed to take the show from a concept to a more polished work. To make the best possible product or in many cases, whether to go forward with production at all. I have previewed many that seemed stronger than this yet never were produced.
