The Hatred (2018)
Beautifully dark and poetic
Okay, if you're expecting a "horror film" in the traditional sense, you will be disappointed. The hatred is so much more than anything I've seen in the genre, which I find highly refreshing. How it was shot adds to the atmosphere in such a poignant way. The audience feels the cold, sadness, rage, desolation and revenge. Definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you like westerns and revenge films, I highly recommend this film.
Hillbilly Horror Show (2014)
Bringing back fun to the horror host genre
I have to say firstly, I wasn't sure what to expect from this show. The DVD box looks like a mad version of a Scooby Doo poster. The DVD box itself is quite the treat if you're into wacky DVD art. Anyway, I watched the DVD of Volume 1 and I was honestly blown away. The hosts are are throwback to Joe Bob Briggs, but much better and the wrap around with the hosts actually has a story-line, which I found refreshing. Love the films, which are all award winning horror shorts. Amazing the quality of films. A few even look like they were made by studios. I highly recommend this title and so far I've seen 4 of the episodes and they each get better and better. I'm looking forward to seeing what else this crew puts out.
House of Good and Evil (2013)
A Great Throwback to smart 70's horror
I was fortunate enough to see this film at the free screening in Floyd Virginia where the film screened for over 1,000 audience members on a massive screen on a field at Chantilly Farms. The energy level at the screening was amplified by the impending lighting storm surrounding the screening. The line of cars entering the farm went on for miles. The entire film played and a huge lightning storm with torrential rains hit just as the end credits were rolling. It was quite something. Now for the film, I have to say I love indie horror, but the quality of how this film looked was far superior to what most indie films look like and reading that the director has worked on many studio films as a cinematographer made sense to why HGE looked top notch. A solid script (That at times seemed to not make sense; until the very end where it all came together) and excellent acting, especially by lead actress Rachel Marie Lewis. This is NOT a gory horror film. This is along the lines of classics like The Shining. The depth of the characters, especially the main character of Maggie left me feeling the sadness of this tragic love story. The story takes the viewer down hellish a rabbit hole and when you think you have a gauge of what's going on, the story twists and turns until the surprise ending I never saw coming and after talking with several other folks who saw the movie, they never saw coming. Days after the screening we were still discussing the film and the twist. Very creepy film with excellent storytelling that is missing from most films of late. I highly recommend House Of Good And Evil. I'm looking forward to the next project from the team that made this film.
