Well.

Let's begin with the good.

The presentation is immaculate. Design wise.

The VFX is solid (enough) And I will say I am mildly intrigued by episode 1?

Bad - Bloody hell at moments this is laughably bad.

The editing. The editing is my biggest grope, probably. Random cuts that aren't necessary.

Geography. I want to see places! And i'm not being showed them. The character is looking at these places so why can I not see them as an audience.

Music. It's so on the nose. After like the second time i was screaming "we get it" ffs. Like, subtlety.

Anyway. I'm bored of typing this review now.

Required Viewing for Anyone Training

This short is amazing. It really struck a chord with me, and I am by no means a body builder.

The experimental style of filmmaking lends itself superbly to the mental psyche of the lead, and the editing and music choices are all chaotic and purposeful. Loved the dark themes and backstory presented. And i felt emotional towards the story at certain points. Props to the dedication of the lead and the writer / director for creating such a personal and risky film.

"Bodybuilding is like taking a psychedelic - whatever you've swept under the rug is going to come out"

10/10 for this short. No complaints.

WERE BACK BABY
2 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After last week's absolute train wreck im glad to say DOCTOR WHO IS BACK BABY. This episode had intrigue, scares, great dialogue, a proper relationship between Donna and The Doctor. And most importantly WILF. He is back. And i am throughly excited for the final special. If you detested last week's episode this episode is exactly what you're looking for. I don't mind the 14th Doctor being gay (i guess that was the intention) who cares!?! It was funny. This episode had jokes that landed, great development of characters. And Russel actually acknowledged the flux and the past 15 years of who. We are back.

Disappointing
26 November 2023
Genuinely feel deflated. Empty. Doctor Who from 05-10 was my favourite show. The best. It defined my childhood. And admittedly that nostalgia could play a factor into how i feel about this episode. This episode was incredibly dumb. Flat. I didn't care about anyone and anything. And David Tennant is my doctor. I don't understand how Davies messed this up. If people like this episode i'm glad. But for me, I just feel sad and dissapointed. No Wilf at the end. The ending too?!? How stupid can you get. David was great as always but he just didn't have anything of interest to do. I understand this is part 1 of three so maybe the other episodes will explain and rationalise this episode, but for as of now. I am :(

Wes Anderson at his most Wes Anderson
11 September 2023
If you have never seen a Wes Anderson film, then the first watch of The French Dispatch may catch you off guard. If you have seen his work before, you will instantly understand what sort of a movie you are in for.

Let me summarise the film as best as I can.

It is mind boggling this movie was made on a budget of $25 million.

Firstly, its cast is absolutely stacked. From the lead actors to the side characters. 25% of the main cast could completely carry another movie. It's a testament to Wes Anderson's pulling power as a writer / director.

Touching on Wes Anderson as a writer, in this film he demonstrates just how underrated he is, as a master of dialogue and character. Not to mention his visual storytelling he is known for.

The sets and overall production design of this movie is an absolute joy to behold, and the camera is placed to perfection in every scene.

The film is told in three short stories, narrated as journalistic pieces for the fictional 'french dispatch'.

The performances are all strong, the music is excellent and the film moves quickly and purposefully through each moment.

For me, the film lacked a strong emotional resonance as well as characters to emphasise with.

This was undoubtedly the intention, but it leaves me walking away from the film unsure of its motive, and what Wes wanted the audience to feel upon the movies credits.

Overall I think the film is a great watch, unlike 99% of movies you will find today.
