Mundina Nildana (2019)
Extremely boring
One star for the good looking faces and another star for the music. I enjoyed Ranveer Singh s two minutes maanyavar advertisement more than the entire movie.
Dear Zindagi (2016)
That kind of movie you can catch on Hot Star..
I went to watch this movie only for Gauri Shinde, English Vinglish was such a well-made movie. But, Dear Zindagi is nowhere close.
Pros:
1. Alia Bhatt has done exceptionally well, loved watching her on screen, extra point for her. 2. Kaira's outburst in Kiddo's party, I was engrossed only in this scene.
Cons:
1. Whatever message was supposed to be conveyed did not come through with the required impact. It was all scattered across. 2. The movie was very long and got boring because it had nothing much to give. 3. Dialogues were forced, especially the ones where the friends get drunk, and the "supposed to be" funny ones, even Aditya Roy Kapur had lame dialogues. 4. Even SRK's charm could not save the movie.
I could say "Love You Zindagi," only when the movie got over.
Suggestion: Wait for its premier on TV, not worth your money. You will get bored even when you watch it at home, but at least you will still have your money in hand.
The Conjuring 2 (2016)
Extremely disappointing
What I did not like:
Starts with the same plot, big family, no money (can accept this as they say it is based on a true story). Too many nights that show scary Janet teleporting, and it gets boring. Again Ed and Lorraine not wanting to want to take cases, but they want to help a family. The crooked man mechanical toy is boring and is nothing like the one used in Conjuring. And, it is silly that the Nun demon tells Loraine her name, and the name power is already old and is used in many movies.
All in all, skip this movie, wait for the DVD if you really want to watch it. People who have not watched Conjuring might like this movie.
Why I did not like:
1. Conjuring set the bar too high, I can still go back and enjoy the cupboard scene, someone behind the door scene, the game the ghost plays with the mother, and the final exorcism was brilliant. There was a story, a logic. This has nothing. Once out of the theater, everything can be easily forgotten.
2. Too much hype created for the movie and most of the good scenes are already in the trailer.
Why 3 stars?
1. 2 scares (Old man near the TV and the bed sheet getting thrown off Janet did make me jump).
2. Using the old man as a pawn was a good twist.
3. This time, the ghost does everything is front of everyone. Thank god for that!
U Turn (2016)
Such an amateurish movie!
Expected a lot more from Pawan Kumar. The story is so predictable that it feels like some new writer is trying his hand at a horror story. I read better plots in some other short story websites.
Pros: The female protagonist is good.
3 starts only for Inspector Nayak (watch this movie for him).
Cons: Very slow movie, nothing happens in the first half, does not even feel like a build-up.
Poor script.
Predictable story.
Seems more like a documentary on road safety.
The Martian (2015)
!0 for Matt Damon, but 9 for the movie
The movie had awesome reviews and I was geared up to watch it and I loved it.
Pros:
I got lost in Mars, it was so realistic and perfect. Matt Damon was awesome. Loved the second half more than the first. A must-watch. Totally entertaining without a moment of boredom.
Cons:
Declaring Mark dead seemed very hasty. The people cheering at Times Square at the end seemed little cheesy. Can you even get live feed like that from NASA?
Quantico (2015)
Chaotic
The trailer looked really wonderful and therefore I had really very high expectations for Quantico.
Pros:
Interesting plot. I liked Priyanka chopra as the main lead, she is a good actor and adds freshness to the series.
Cons:
Too many characters got introduced at once. Everything and everyone seemed in a hurry and it was quite messy. There was no clarity, I could not connect with any of the characters. The story line seems right out of a Bollywood movie and is very predictable.
Will I continue watching?
Yes, only for Priyanka chopra and with a hope that it might get better :)
Puli (2015)
Paisa Vasool !!
I went expecting a fantasy film and it seemed like one to me. I did enjoy it.
Pros:
1) Loved the VFX, new in Tamil cinema. 2) It was entertaining. 3) There was a story line. 4) Songs were required to flaunt the visual effects and the amount of effort gone into making the costumes.
Cons:
1) The movie was lavish, cheap and dirty comedy dialogues made me cringe (there are better ways to compare a lady's beauty with poetry). 2) Kodangi's first night fiasco was disgusting. 3) Sridevi's potential was not fully utilized. 4) Script could have been better to keep the audience occupied.
Maya (2015)
Disappointing
Maya was on my list for a while and I was waiting eagerly for its release. I am an ardent horror movie lover. Loved the beginning, and the expectation was set and I really thought it would be brilliant.
Pros: Brilliant cinematography. Good concept of a movie within a movie. Loved the male and female protagonists. The first half of the movie was really good.
Cons: Second half was a complete let down and became extremely boring, people actually started laughing and giggling (it was that bad). The portion when they show three graves and how each of them gets killed is so so so long. You keep waiting for some fast-paced action and some kick, but it never comes. At this point, you start getting bored with the importance being given to cinematography over and over again, the pause for each scene is so much that it looks like they are waiting for an appreciation from you. The ring concept is old and very predictable. I actually got up relieved when the director announced the prequel in the movie, but sadly the movie was not over and I still had to tolerate it for another 15 mins.
RangiTaranga (2015)
Brilliant concept ruined by mediocre acting and direction
The movie caught my attention when I saw the "Sold Out" board hung in front of DRC Cinemas counter in Mysore and oh yes, I wanted to watch this movie badly as it has been quite a while since new plots had emerged in Kannada cinema.
I let out a gasp when I saw the yellow figure peering from the rear-view mirror of the car stuck in the rain, and I knew I was all set for an amazing movie experience. It did deliver everything I had expected, till the introduction of Arvind Rao after which everything just fell apart.
What I liked:
Brilliant concept of keeping the audience guessing in the first half, definitely an edge of a seat experience. Good acting by both the female protagonists. Chilling BGS. Loved Rafiq's natural acting.
What I did not like:
The main lead was a huge letdown, I kept wishing that there should have been an experienced actor is his place for such a nice concept. The hurry to throw in a stunning climax at the end leads to many unanswered questions and irrelevant scenes related to the first half of the movie. There is no time to emotionally connect to the characters; especially the one Harini has with the guy who keeps stalking her, he is seen in one scene in a song and then he is dead, poor guy. Too many songs in the second half. The movie is over-hyped.
