Chernobyl (2019)
Amazing, even if it is only loosely based on actual events
This is an amazing show, well written, well acted and a very gripping tale, watched four episodes in a row it was that good. My only complaint is it has been heavily fictionalised (one of the main characters never even existed) and if they were going to base it of a real event they could probably have told the true story and made it just as good if not better (due to the increased realism).
Cobra Kai (2018)
Worth every penny, amazing.
I was a big KK fan back in the day and this ticks all the nostalgia boxes while managing to be awesome in it's own right. The acting is great, the story is great and it takes the plot in directions I never expected while making you feel for the characters.
Great work, bring on the next season :D
Funny Games (2007)
Worst film I have ever seen.
I watched this roughly fifteen years ago with a group of friends, we hit play then sat in silence for nearly two hours. Roughly fifteen years later this film is still used by all my friends as the benchmark for just how bad a film can possibly be. When we discuss how good a film is today the scale always ranges from Funny Games up to amazing.
After watching I genuinely felt like the writer had stolen some of my life from me, I am not exaggerating when I say I would have given it zero stars if possible as this film has no redeeming features whatsoever, it doesn't even qualify for the "so bad it's entertaining" category.
Given the choice between watching this again or watching the actual Ring tape I would make a date with a well.
Battleship (2012)
One of the best action films in history
I have seen a lot of people being negative about this film, the are only two reasons anyone could not like this film, either they dislike action films for some reason (in which case why were they watching an action film), or they dislike America for some reason (in which case why were they watching a film about the American military, of course it's going to be patriotic).
The film itself is excellent, it's a bit silly in parts but every good action film is, there's the perfect amount of plot, explosions and general badass-ness. The fact that the are actual veterans starring in the films just makes it even more awesome. This was actually my favourite action film of 2012 in my opinion, narrowly beating the second expendables film.
Se7en (1995)
I really don't get why this film is so highly rated, it's clever and all and the acting is A+ but the terrible ending ruins it for me.
I remember seeing this film not long after it came out and being very disappointed, It starts off well and builds, the acting is top notch and Pitt/Freeman suit their characters well, it's well directed and appears at first to be well written however despite being great and building building the ending is very very sub par, as I tagged this as a spoiler I can be honest, it's not a happy ending, it's the type of unhappy ending that makes you go away feeling unresolved, incomplete, unfinished, etc. I just ended up feeling I had wasted two hours of my life, maybe I am just a good little Hollywood drone who expects his happy ending, but that's not the case, if the bad guy had been the type you root for I wouldn't have minded or if they hadn't senselessly killed off a character then maybe but the film just doesn't sit right with me, the bad guy gets what he want's, the good guys get their life ruined, it's just a total depressing mess of an ending that makes me want to punch the writer.
