Blackfish (2013)
An eye opener.
Great documentary its really informative and engaging, I did not feel that at any point that it being repetitive like some documentaries can be.
I always thought about animals in captivity and how it was bad for them but after I watched Blackfish it really opened my eye to a whole new level of cruelty that all animals in captivity suffer.
It is a shame that the trainers had to learn the hard way the meaning behind the Killer Whales name. I was really surprised how even the trainers were kept in the dark for so long about Tilliky.
It is a nice and sobering documentary that encompasses all forms of animal captivity.
Kick-Ass 2 (2013)
5 if you read the comic, 7 if not.
So I am one of those people who read the comic book before watching the Kick-Ass 2, and boy was it a mistake.
Major Issues with the Movie (If you read the comic): The major issue I have with the movie is that it differs too much from the original comic. Yes I am aware they cant show the level of brutality on the big screen BUT...
Like in the first movie I do not agree with Mindy's dad's story cause the whole Mindy story in the comics is about her and her mother and the step-dad Marcus (who is a cop, they got that right).
And The Mother F***-er slaughtering innocent civilians without hesitation. This is the point of no return for him as a villain and a huge miss in the screen writers part.
The end fight, was the whole point in the comic where the villains go rampage the town, setting buildings on fire and even explaining why the police are elsewhere, not getting involved immediately (they set of bombs around the city).
And in the comic its not the shark that mangles The Mother F***-er (as they mentioned in the movie they placed the shark in the incorrect environment), but the break the glass and there is a final confrontation on the roof.
Thus The MF doesn't lose his legs, which I think if they want to go on to Kick-Ass 3 will be a bit of an issue.
I don't mind the movie not showing stuff like:
The Mother F***-er's gang raping Kick-Ass's Ex-girlfriend.
Jim Carry's character being beheaded and the dogs head being placed on his head (yea yea Game of Thrones).
If you did not read the comics:
The movie unnecessarily goes into the school scenes instead of focusing the The MF's development.
The jokes could have been a bit more well written.
I would have liked Jim Carry's character to be a bit more serous so we could feel his conviction as a hero.
The Night B**** character was unnecessary involved in Kick-Ass's life.
The MF was no evil enough, the villain didn't feel really threatening.
Bonus:
The "puke taser" was extremely out of place and just the lowest point of the movie, would have been better if they just used the original scene from the comic. Where Mindy pushes the "mean girl" of the roof only to catch her by the foot (with rope tied t something) and says something like "So we are friends from now on right?" girl answers "yes", Mindy drops her only for the girl to drop into garbage truck, with the ending line "the truck might be late a minute next time". Much better then "zap-and-puke".
In conclusion
Not a bad movie if the haven't read the comic, but I have and the movie was a major letdown. The threat of the bad guys did not come trough for me. The consequences of the actions of the heroes and the villains weren't outlined as much as it should have been. Wait for a movie discount and then watch it, trust me your not missing anything ground breaking.
Man of Steel (2013)
An insult to Superman and human intelligence
No spoilers.
This movie should be called "Michael Shannon the Movie" cause beyond Zod and his crew the movie is not worth watching, not even for free. Michael Shannon (Zod)...by the gods, he is such a good actor and him playing Zod was the best thing about the movie that is not saying a lot tho since the movie is the second worst movie I ever watch. (no insult meant at Michael Shannon he was awesome at every point of the movie).
This so called "Superman movie" has nothing to do with the comic book or animated series Superman. The writer of this movie presumes that the viewer is an idiot, I'm not talking about the Superman comics and cartoons at this point.
The characters: - The actions and motivation of the movie characters don't make sense most of the time. Only Zod and his crew seem to have well written characteristics and motivations. - While on the other hand "Superman" does not resemble a rational or thinking human/kryptonien. I did not care much for the actors acting either, nothing special. The US army acted like a parody of the US army. the other characters in the movie seemed absolutely irrelevant.
Look and feel of the movie: - Krypton looks like it was designed by some one who only sees things in shades of brown. - Zod and his crews military armor looked awesome tho. - The special effects were alright but nothing we haven't seen already. - The fight scenes are jumpy and fast cut, sometimes it can be hard to follow what is actually happening.
Story: - Spoilers: Google - Man of Steel plot holes. There are too many to write em all down here.
Final Verdict: The creators presume that the viewers are brain dead idiots who will not notice the major plot holes and inconsistencies that repeatedly occur in the movie. The visual spectacles are nothing special and the acting is average at best (except for Michael Shannon who was awesome as General Zod). Don't watch this movie if possible, but if you really mush, watch it alone cause after you will want to punch something out of sheer frustration.
