Ghostbusters (2016)
Saw it with 9 year old daughter and we loved it!
We just got back from seeing this tonight and we loved it. We caught the 3D version and man I jumped and screamed a few times!
Don't jump up and leave at the credits there are more scenes when it ends.
We didn't think it was racist, stereotypical, or man-hating in any way. A couple of things were cheesy but it's a comedy... It's also PG-13 and there wasn't any horny sluts panting to get bred either. The female actors weren't slutty, didn't wear a ton of makeup or tight revealing clothing. Maybe people are used to seeing that? My kid loved it! I had a smile on my face the whole time, I remember this distinctly because I read the crap reviews and was ready to sit through a painful movie just to make my kid happy. The characters were well done, each had their own distinct traits and quirks to love. Also (unlike Star wars) it was a totally different movie with completely different aspects, scenes, locations, etc. I didn't see the "bad acting" to me it was a comedy and you need to go into that with a lighter attitude. They aren't trying to win an Oscar here folks. I loved that the former Ghost Busters (even those who were not alive) made an appearance and had acting parts. I give it a 10 out of 10 because it is exactly what I hope to see when I grab a PG-13 flick with my kid. There wasn't some ridiculously young female following some 50 year old actor around... (ahem at some of the previews tonight!)
I should mention Ghost Busters two was on TV earlier tonight and my kid walked out on it completely bored and utterly not interested... soo there's that.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
It's Basically Episode IV Again Not really a spoiler
I get that it is called The Force Awakens.... but they didn't have to awaken the same movie that was already done, did they?
We took the kids on opening night. I had to ooooh and ahh because what kind of a jerk ruins Star Wars for their kids right? Anyway, it dawned on me pretty quickly that this is just episode IV with newer younger characters and the old new characters switched to the old characters... if that makes sense.
Also nearly identical story line.
If you see beyond the big budget it is the same movie and lacking the magic of Lucas. Too bad. I won't be in such a hurry to see the next one.
Oh Adam was smokin' hot in this... What is it about tall men with dark hair? meow.
Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)
I Loved it and Couldn't Get Through The Book
Watch this movie alone. You will enjoy it more. The acting was fabulous the entire premise is awkward and scary. The lack of music in parts is to show this awkwardness.
I am a 41 female author and I couldn't get through the book. I am a submissive in my personal life and no one who would know me would guess this.
The original billionaire fantasy is cheese in and of itself. However
If you look beyond the bad music, lack of music or sound of any kind
. there is an awkwardness that you cannot resists. I keep finding myself rewinding so I don't miss parts LOL
I found this movie HOT! However, I think it would be awkward watching it with someone else in a theater. This is a personal awkward thing by its very nature. Best if enjoyed alone or with someone who understands.
I thought it was perfect and exactly what it was supposed to be.
Feuchtgebiete (2013)
An Honest Film
This is an honest film.
This struck me as an acid trip from the start, but I had a couple glasses of wine (5) and stuck with it on Netflixx
I ended up with this revelation--this is an honest film about the ridiculousness of life and the consistent gnawing ache of gaining a sex drive when you begin to grow.
It's brilliant in its simplicity to just tell the truth exactly how it is without worrying what we will think about it.
I was reminded of that awkward feeling I would get as a much younger child listening to teens talk about getting their periods and having sex. Just this out of touch reality that I couldn't wait to dip my own toe into. Exotic and pure and ridiculous.
Significant Mother (2015)
Love it!
Campy good fun! What is it about this show? I think you have to be in your thirties-forties to appreciate the curve balls that life throw you and how you just have to laugh at them and make the best of it. The spunky redhead waitress is priceless. Something about the mom... I dunno, shes sexy and admirable? There's lots of eye candy with shirtless babes and six packs, but its witty good fun.
50 YO mom falls for 26 YO sons best friend. They all know each other so well. The ex-husband to be is so full of himself you just have to laugh. Cute little episodes with real life problems and hilarity added. An easy watch that I keep finding myself hitting rewind when I miss something funny. Hope it sticks around! Give it a try if you like Modern Family you may dig it.
Grace and Frankie (2015)
I binged the whole thing in one night!
Two couples who have known each other (and not necessarily loved each other) all their lives find out in their 70's that the two husbands are gay and in love. HA! And have been for the better part of 20 years sneaking around behind their families backs.
Man Fonda is looking good! What is she on? Magic? Sam is hilarious! I mean he's got this whole gay thing down and together with Martin Sheen... Their fights are something I found myself really looking forward to and hoping there would be reasons for more. Tomlin so heartbreaking. You want her to be happy so badly but she truly just wanted to be with her husband and they are simply best pals. Oh the Coach from Parenthood dates Fonda. Fantastic performance and how true to life that just when you are enjoying being single, some swinging d(*k comes along and wants to settle you down. I am a 40 yof and I couldn't stop watching until it was binged fully. I highly recommend this. It's good to see TV that isn't teenagers sucking blood.
The Mysteries of Laura (2014)
It just feels weird... Like I'm being brainwashed in how to behave?
I loved the first couple episodes but...
Here's the thing... its campy like the detecting isn't stupendous and there are little things Laura catches and happens to know where they make those shoes so the crime is solved? If you don't catch the one thing from earlier... it's lost on you. That part is fine! Cheesy but fine.
BUT! The human lessons here are as if they are trying to train us females how to behave? Don't screw your ex. Let the new guy meet the kids. Be nice to your exes new girl. Be nice to new females who join the team. Put yourself in other people shoes before you judge. Give your dad a second chance. Don't date people at work etc. But they are just feeding us these outcomes, not taking us along the journey on how these lessons are learned. Because they are learned you don't just automatically know how to deal with divorce and exes. And it's usually messy. How lucky is Laura that she gets to skip all the messy parts and just run straight to the lessons and good behavior? It seems very fake and doesn't feel right. Like they are trying to get women to behave better by watching this show? Does that even make sense? Every time I was I am left with this feeling of... so the lesson here today was to let the kids meet your new man and to be nice to your exes new girl right off the bat... so you are the bigger person.. Got it. I want to see Laura royally screw up. I want her to make a giant mess of her life and have to deal with it and fix it. I want to see her bang her ex because she loves him and has trouble separating like a normal freakin messy lifed person.
And you know... You look fab in a dress and swim suit, but what is with the sweatshirts and long coats? A little more fashion please. We get it you are a mom but you are a hot mom and you should at least wear a coat that doesn't say you are hiding 50 extra pounds?
The show seems to forget some of the funny aspects of her giant handbag too. It will be joked about one or two episodes but then when she can use it to take out a skydiver, its just a dumb one liner with a handgun drawn? Meh. I want to see her pull things out of her boobs when she can't carry it.
The Interview (2014)
We Loved It With Tears Rolling Down Our Faces!
We both thoroughly enjoyed it with tears rolling down our faces, unable to take in air from laughing so hard. Today as we went on our walk we were laughing and quoting things like "tiger patch!" If you are a serious person this ain't gonna be your thang. But if you enjoy movies like Lets Be Cops, and This is the End, and can let go and enjoy silliness, you are going to love it!
We rented this on our Xbox. If they continue to release movies on Xbox same day as theatre WE ARE IN! We hate the theatre experience (people on their phones and flossing their teeth OMG) That aside...
We are 40 years old. I had a couple of glasses of NYE champagne early and he was sober-FYI. We continuously exchanged glances throughout the entire movie while laughing our asses off at what we'd just seen and heard.
This is some of Rogan's best work yet! This guy is crushing it in the ouch it hurts kind of funny category. Franco pulls some magic out of his butt on this one. What hilarious acting! With the dog at the end LOLOL You have to see it. The movie flew by! We laughed through almost all of it. This is a difficult thing to accomplish after pulling your hair out raising two kids during Christmas. It was truly funny and hit all the gay joke but its okay to be gay, were all a little gay sometimes, accidental racism, shart, puke drunk, party banging notes one might expect. We will be watching this again! It is 100% adult to the core, don't even think about showing anyone under 13, but it hit the spot after the kids went to bed and we needed a good solid laugh.
It isn't that the movie isn't unexpected, you pretty much have some idea what is going to happen the entire time, but the hi-jinx that go on from scene to scene make it priceless. So incredibly funny! Thank you Rogan! They just keep getting' better. We've seen every one of your movies, didn't always love 'em, but this one does the trick!
Hilarious!
State of Affairs (2014)
I freakin love it!
Why is it that whenever we see a female lead with a sexual appetite the whole show gets blasted? Newsflash-go to any pub at closing time and you will see much worse. Do we really think that women, like men, don't fill empty emotional holes with sex? Of course we don't, women are people too!
I dig this show for several reasons. 1) It isn't reality TV which is the root of all evil. 2) It isn't trying to be Madam Secretary (which I also love) 3) Covert Affairs got sooooo lame 4) There is a market for sexy spies and no one can deny that. 5) There are many different twists going on at once... who is texting Charlie, Who why was Charlies consort murdered?, CIA director miffed at Charlie, sexy spy guy, and covert park guy with the dog. Plus what is going on with the president and all these things progress every episode on top of the individual episode plot.
The cast is pretty rockin with people who can actually act. Sure it isn't perfectly accurate, how could it be? If you have an IQ over 90 (unlike most of the world) you are going to have to take some of the plots with a grain of salt... ie sub with spy on the bottom of the Bering sea to tap into our fiber optic lines at crush depth, Charlie just walking into the burn room lottie dah... but its all good fun!
Being a spy in real life is boring and tedious so who wants to watch that? I get it people be hatin on Heigl and I am not 100% sure why. I am a 6ft blonde myself so I can only imagine but.... She's hot. She can act. And the show is sexy and I can't stop watching. What more do you want in a TV show? They aren't all going to be West Wing. Some of them are just for entertainment and this one hits the nail on the head.
