Wish Upon (2017)
Fun for Parents and Teens
Something about the trailer told me it would be campy schlock so I went in with zero expectations. I was surprised when it turned out to be a mostly well-planned, decent film with amusing, yet clearly disposable characters. It was ok cast except for having people clearly in their late twenties and thirties playing fourteen-year-olds. Overall not a waste of time if you enjoy suspense, a very flawed main character, and Ryan Philippe.
I don't understand why you couldn't have put together some focus groups, PRC censorship reps, and applied for a grant to have this marketed in China. You'd have had to change the ending because time travel in Chinese theatres is no bueno but the ending was hackneyed anyway.
The Hungover Games (2014)
Actually Funny!
In a world where an entire generation of young people are unable to identify a spoof movie that isn't crap. It is 2014 humans lived with Scary Movie 2 being the last time a decent spoof hit the silver screen. Many have tried. More have failed.
One production company stood up. One group of weird people said enough. There have been too many hammy, crappy, unfunny spoofs feeding on the scraps of potheads with a Netflix account. It was time change came to
That film was "The Hungover Games" and it is a damn good effort to put an end to a decade of utterly unwatchable spoofs. Characters convincingly lifted from other films, to be exaggerated, not imitated. Special effects made by professionals exceeding their limitations, and a teddy bear tea-bagging an escaped slave.
This film is non-stop laughter. I was expecting to give up after 5 minutes, but I gave it a chance and regret nothing. This is a brilliant addition to the spoof genre and I hope to see more like it in future.
25 to Life (2008)
Painful
This movie tried desperately to convey the malaise of an ex-alcoholic/convict returning to a life that was no longer his. It begged to be taken seriously as it valiantly, defiantly reared its head and shook its fist at the prejudice and ill will expressed by a man who had suffered intolerable cruelties. His wrath compounded, yet silenced by a manipulative system unable to distinguish itself as friend from foe.
FALE.
Humanity allow what little merit a movie may have to guide our conscience as we mark it in a one-to-ten scale. Plot holes, acting, pacing... these are concepts absent from the creators minds as this monstrosity bleeds on. It wasn't until late in the evolution of man that the notion of zero widely infiltrated the collective. Zero is either something the creators of IMDb.com have yet to actualize or casually dismiss but, thanks this movie it may have found a reason. It was that bad.
Fear of Girls (2005)
Dark, sinister, heartwarming.
"Fear of Girls" is a touching and whimsical short comedy shot in style of a documentary about two socially inept grown men. Doug and Raymond are unwilling to leave the magical world of LARP (Live-Action-Role-Playing) through which they used to escape the torment of adolescence.
The two full-time gamers are scorned by women and alienated by other Role-Playing enthusiasts (a.k.a. children). The contrast of their peculiar behavior and isolation is displayed through the equally weird behavior of "Doug-Doug"'s hyper-Christian family who believe he is going to hell. Surrounded by empty soda bottles and medieval paraphenalia, sexual tension froths between the men, afraid to question the "platonic" nature of their relationship.
This is a hilarious and uplifting short about friendship and loyalty, epitomizes awkwardness and the quixotic misadventures of two men isolated from reality. I sincerely hope this film receives the credit it deserves.
