1917 (2019)
Great, but inaccurate and improbable script flaws
As a fictional WW1 movie if is great. However, once the river current and waterfall scene starts it becomes a nuisance thinking about the geographic inaccuracies. The area around Écoust in Northern France is quite flat. As such river currents, let alone waterfalls are nowhere to be found. The script could have done much better without this unnecessary river scene and setting. Makes you also rethink about the unrealistic coincidence of the German fighter pilote scene. Exactly crashing on the site where the two English soldiers are watching in a farm's yard, in otherwise wide open fields. Then saving the German fighter pilot from his burning plane. Helping him to survive, while just shot down by British fighter pilots. To be attacked with a knife by the German pilot. This stacking one improbability on another. Unnecessary script errors for an otherwise great movie.
Tôkyô monogatari (1953)
Captivating masterpiece
This important story of time affecting families, culture and society is made with a lot of love and attention to detail. Every shot is almost a still that could be in any art exhibition. The low, fixed camera angle for every scene makes you a spectator as if you are sitting inside the Japanese households yourself. Top level cinematography while at the same time maintaining a very high quality in story telling and acting. That is a very rare combination to achieve. It is remarkable how this 1953 film could be so ahead of its time in all aspects of filmmaking. 70 years later you still see elements that inspired so many movies since. A true masterpiece.
Billions (2016)
Strong running for 6 seasons
This attractive drama in the world of New York finance and law continues to entertain with strong acting and story lines and consistency of actors. Well worth the wait in between seasons.
Krabi, 2562 (2019)
Complete waste of everything
If the objective was to discourage tourism to Krabi with this film, then they succeeded. Real piece of crap. Krabi, where I spent 2 weeks in 2014, and it's people deserve better then such an amateur movie.
Dragged Across Concrete (2018)
Quite good, could have had a more interesting end
Although a long 2:38, it held my attention all the way. Spoiler alert. Once finished, in hindsight I would have loved if the movie could have ended five minutes before the actual end. With instead the two remaining characters shooting each other dead in the white SUV and no one benefiting at all. Then this would have been one of the best movies and scripts. The actual lucky end for one character, as shown, is out of touch with the rest of the movie script.
