Year Million (2017)
A fun thought experiment, more science fiction than science fact.
Well produced and entertaining. I liked this series because it played with some of the more wild speculations of modern science. They didn't dive deep and kept it more lighthearted and fun. So if you're looking for a hardcore science show, you won't like this one.
But if you're up for a cocktail party level conversational presentation on the subjects of AI, Dyson Spheres, digital immortality, space exploration and colonization, this one's for you.
Lost in Space (2018)
I really wanted to like this, but...
I tire of watching movies and series that get heavy handed on their social commentary. I just want to be entertained. Stop trying to push the accepted narrative. It's really becoming a distraction. Marvel, and Disney are killing successful franchises by trying to push the sjw narrative.
Visually, the series is pretty good. Not great, but pretty darn good. The acting is okay, but the writing and story are not so good. I'd like a little more science fiction and a little less soap opera drama. Maybe I'm not the target audience for this one.
As a heterosexual, married, professional, white male, whose with kids and a wife whose a great homemaker, maybe this series isn't geared for me. I get it. My traditional sensibilities are outdated. Message recieved loud and clear.
Ready Player One (2018)
This was a good movie. Worth watching.
Good story, script, acting, and visuals. I was surprised.
It's a movie that you could talk the kids to see, and enjoy it. It contained no heavy handed social justice warrior, or political message. Which was refreshing.
The action was great, and the pace of the movie was good. I didn't get bored. All the characters were likable. Go to the theater for this one, buy some popcorn, and be entertained!
Singularity (2017)
Terrible
Just awful on so many levels. The story seems to have been written by a 10 year old, who spent their weekend watching dystopian movies. It contains every movie trope played with over the last 18 years. There's a little Hunger Games, a little Terminator Judgement Day, and Salvation, and a hint of Maze Runners. You have a teenage girl falling for teenage boy, running around woods a lot.
The movie is set 97 years after "judgement day", the day Kconos the A.I. woke-up and destroyed all of human civilization. Yet, the kids look they just picked up their clothes at the Mall. They also find all kinds of neat manufactured things that look and work like they're brand new, not a century old. For example the Polaroid Camera they stumble on, which not only takes perfect instant picture (loaded with film...that's still good), but apparently the battery has stayed powered up for a 100 years to operate the flash. ...amazing.
The acting and dialogue were cringeworthy. There were so many plot holes it was insulting. I truly feel bad for everyone associated with this film, but especially for John Cusack, what the hell was he thinking signing on to this project. I hope he was at least paid well. Then I found out that the original film was actually shot back in 2013, all the parts with John Cusack in it were filmed and added years later. This was a crappy movie, that someone tried to reedit in order to make it more marketable. ....swing and a miss....
That explains a lot about the choppy continuity errors. This was a hack job.
What's more laughable is this movie ended with a set-up for a sequel. What the hell, did they really think this POS was going to become the next Hunger Games or something?
It's a shame really. I like dystopian science fiction, especially playing with the idea of A.I.. But this wasn't even a near miss. Don't waste your time.
Black Panther (2018)
This has all happened before, and it will all happen again.
If you're into comic book movies, this one is just okay.
I disappointed because the pre-release reviews were amazing. But sitting through it, I don't see what everyone was amazed about. Because african american actors were in it?
There are a lot of great actors, who've performed a lot of great rolls, who have happened to be black. This movie breaks no ground there. Heck, this isn't even the first black superhero in film, so that's not even new.
In my opinion hyping a movie because it has a lot of black actors is just as bad as not liking a movie because it has a lot of black actors. I'm just saying.
With that said, the actors in this one did a good job, I liked them all, even the villain.
The CGI wasn't the best, but then again maybe I'm just getting burned out on movies that rely on CGI, and let's face it Marvel relies a lot on CGI. It just seems like the CGI is not getting better. I thought the same thing about the recent Star Wars movie.
Overall, it wasn't the worst Marvel movie I've seen, if you like the genre, and ignore the hype, this one probably won't disappoint you.Black Panther.
Parallels (2015)
Great concept, sorry to see FOX didn't pick this one up.
This is really a great concept, not as cheesy as Sliders, but along the same lines. I liked the actors, and script, although the dialogue seemed a little weak at times. I'll never understand how stuff like this get's axed, but other absolute crap is made into a series. I hope by adding a 10 to this enough people will pay attention that maybe we'll get the rest of the story. It really leaves you with a cliff hanger that may never get answered.
Quintet (1979)
I was excited when I stumbled upon a movie I had never heard of...
...now I wish it had remained that way.
Warning: If you stumble upon this movie while surfing TV, keep surfing!
This isn't even a good one-time watch. It's the most boring, senseless piece of trash I've ever watched. I can't believe someone pitched this script, much less made the movie. I can't believe Paul Newman signed on to play in this movie.
This is a bad, bad, bad movie.
