The Short Straw (2022)
Waist of time
Like most of the bulgarian post-socialist movies, this one tries to show how bad was everything before... and fails miserably. Bad acting, awful casting and poor script, with pretentios effort of dark comedy and social satire only shows how doesn't have to be made movies nowadays. Acording to autors, their production needs to show the genesis of evil and the DNA of corruption...seriously?!? A bunch of stupid people, making absurd decisions, with the narrative of the starting war of Brezhnev's USSR agains Afganistan in a small village, when three goofy cops of the peoples's militia are busting the village idiot, who tries to sleep with a local mischievous girl for an exchange of a hundred of priceless at that time american dollars...sound like a bad joke, right?! Well - it is! Simply this movie is a bad joke of itself!!!
Damascena (2017)
Damascena - rose, movie, refinery, ethnographic complex or corporate PR?
Damascena is a film, made with the money and for a corporate PR of Stoyan Hristov - owner and creator of the rose oil refinery and ethnographic complex Damascena - Bulgaria! The plot follows the life of the main movie sponsor - Techo, a heroic Bulgarian businessman from a child to a builder of modern Bulgaria and a prominent figure in the world production of essential oils. The whole production is made like an old socialistic realism movie, seen thru the eyes of the new and modern dreamer businessman and if you're not from a film crew, local extras or the damascena refinery or complex, you'll probably fall asleep after 10 minutes...136 minutes commercial or a corporate event, a fairly expensive image PR - 2 600 000 euros official budged, and it just looks like an attempt by a successful businessman to caress his ego. Of course, every businessman has the full right to give his money for whatever he wants, and since this is private project, I guess it serves it's main purpose - PR of the sponsor! Cheers, mr. Hristov, money well spent!
Voynata na taralezhite (1979)
One Of The Best Bulgarian Movies!
"The Hedgehogs' War" is good known for a few generations of Bulgarian kids. Actually this is one of the most famous Bulgarian movies for children and their grown parents of all time. The battle of the kids with the people from their block to win the right to play a basketball in the backyard becomes a war of the generations, you will laugh with they plans how to get a basket from the school, how to stay in the local basketball team and becomes a future champions, with the first excitements of love, honor and friendship, everything with the background of the famous song, performed by Asen Kisimov, "Where Are My Children's books, Tell Me, My Dusty Box..":-) I personally give the film 10 out of 10, like every other grown with that movie Bulgarian kid will do!
